  1. Actually I must say that I'm against this. Just like crafting&enchanting I fear this would eventually lead to munchkinism and min-maxing. If mages can make their own spells and change existing ones then half the original spells will soon be obsolete or be changed to be overpoweringly good. You could potentially alleviate certain drawbacks or make low level spells so effective that they make higher level spells useless in comparison. Not to mention that this could make any mage type class into the perfect Swiss army knife: Trolls only take damage from fire? No problem! Reload and change all your relevant spells to deal fire damage and suddenly the fight became a joke.
  2. Ah, I see my questions have already been asked but I'll repeat them just so Obsidian is sure to to see them: 1. Will Paypal donations count towards stretch goals? I sure do hope so. 2. Can we have a counter of how much was donated through Paypal like Wasteland 2 had one?
  3. Absolutely agree with this suggestion. Incantations just make magic being cast feel more impactful to me. It's also a nice aural cue in BG1 and 2 and could work as one again in Project Eternity, when you entered a new area ,even before having really accessed the situation, and you heard a chanting like "Praeses, Alia, Fero" you knew that there was a mage with the enemy.
  4. I'd like to see a return of the mage battles from BG2 or IWD and for that we'd need at least the following two: 1. Powerful wards/protective enchantments that not merely give the mage a buff to his defence but potentially can make him immune to physical damage, reflect other spells and give high resistances to elemental/poison/magic damage. This is needed so that a powerful mage can not just be negated by engaging him in close combat or have archers interrupt his spellcasting. 2. Spells like "Breach" and "Khelben's Warding Whip" which can strip a mage of such protective wards and therefore are a must have if you don't have someone with a gun in your party.
  5. Don't like this idea eiher. It basically robs any item no matter if helmet, armor or sword of their own style and personality. So if the item description reads: "A great iron helmet, decorated with miniature dragon wings on each side and studded with the scales of a red dragon. The visor is formed in the shape of a dragons jaws and lined with rows of metal teeth." Then it feels just weird that my character is wearing a shining golden helmet with horns. Can I make a leather cap look like a viking helmet as well with a mechanic like that? Where is the gratification in finding something cool looking then?
  6. I bet it has already been said but here it is again: Please, anyone but Jeremy Soule!
  7. Or just have it so that you can't change armor during combat. I don't see how that relates to what I said, sorry. I meant that while on a quest out somewhere you find some magic gauntlets and when you try to decide who gets to wear them you can't put them on one party member first and then on the other to test out who reaps the greater benefit from it. Instead you would either have to return to the next city or do some crafting in between each swap. IMO that sounds rather obnoxious.
  8. Voted "no". Just seems like a hassle ingame as well as workload wise that does very little for actually improving the game itself. Obsidian would have to include either special stores at several convenient locations or come up with an additional crafting system. Quite a bit of work, especially if you could recolor and engrave each piece of armor there is, as proposed. For the player, this would also prevent you from swapping armor and such between party members while on a quest, or to be more precise you wouldn't be able to do stuff like "test out those gauntlets on the dwarf just to see how they influence his stats".
  9. I disagree,... completely. 2x as powerful at the very end of the game? That's ridiculously tiny power progression, just assuming that there are 20 levels max. you could hardly tell the difference between a lvl 1 and a lvl 3 character. To my tastes, if I encounter i.e. Kobolds early on I want to be able to clear the entire screen of the same Kobolds with 1-2 AoE spells of my max. level character later on. Quite honestly I don't see how such low power progression could even work. It would be very limiting in regards to the enemies/creatures you meet and the abilities they possess. Like this either a.) a group of thugs from the starting area should still be able to kill a Demon Lord, Dragon or other supernatural enemy or b.) you never encounter such mighty beasts and the progression only goes up to something like ogres.
  10. There have been threads/comments asking for some sort of crafting before and if it came down to my opinion this would be the only kind of crafting I'd want in the game. I don't want to pick herbs or mine for metals but finding a special pommel jewel, blade or bowstring in a dragons hoard that's always intriguing.
  11. I'd like to see something more uncommon. If the companion is not of one of the "standard" races, then how about a being with a more alien mindset or at least vastly different social/cultural norms. Like a race of humanoid praying mantises that just don't get some of the emotions humanoids feel... If that's too outlandish then I'd go for some kind of fanatic/extremist. A good example for what I have in mind would be Vhailor.
