Martyr-Like Paladin/Saint
kenup replied to Felithvian's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would like something like a cunning(not an asshat necessarily) paladin, perhaps finding holes in his code/law when required. Generally though, paladins are played straight as Lawful foolhardy divine right warriors. I think you basically described a lawyer-paladin (grand master?) or an inquisitor LoL. I was thinking more about him/her finding holes to make good when the law doesn't allow it, or accept chaotic/evil/<not the same as them> allies when, again, the greater good will benefit(or just have some brains and basic survival instincts). But at that point they probably aren't a paladin, they're just a person in law enforcement/city guard. -

The punisher, as far as I know(haven't cared much about him ever), is more of a "non-evil" anti-hero Knight Templar. Templars don't care about morality in general, just doing what is right by their order(or them); whatever that means. -

Hmm.... Only paladins I would like to see, are ones that I'm allowed to kill or deny them their "Sainthood". Lawful can be good, at times, but paladins are stupid. That can go for any stupidly aligned character/NPC. -

Awesome Interview with Avellone
kenup replied to C2B's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I disagree that the ritual had anything to do with romance, though it still is a way for bioware to give an "end of the world" sex scene, even if you don't do it yourself, and the whole Wardens thing could be done differently/better. And tali, well, someone has to represent the bricksxbuckets fans. -

As long as I'm not forced to kill dozens of NPCs(bandits or whatever) just because, I'm fine. -

Attributes - Fixed or Increasing?
kenup replied to Cultist's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I like your idea on symbiotic attributes, but I disagree on the last part. In fact it's because of the possible symbiosis that I disagree. Physical stats can be raised, to a certain extent, through physical training. On the other hand one can become wiser, or better their personality but their base intelligence, not so much. So what I was thinking is that, in case we have a more hybrid system than fixed or otherwise, intelligence shouldn't be available for increase on level ups. Instead wisdom and/or experience(as long as the intelligence is "positive") should give bonuses to INT checks in most things. Intelligence still matters more for its own responsibilities, but experience and wisdom can add partly to "intelligence requirements". So separated INT PERS and WIS might actually be a really good thing. Just my .02. -
Attributes - Fixed or Increasing?
kenup replied to Cultist's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'm going with fixed as well. Raising a base attribute should be really difficult for all of them, if not impossible for some, at least without some major cost and quest and plot choices should also affect possibilities. -

Or when you make sure they don't get up! I'm pretty sure I'm going to be using AH companions a lot, when the normal ones annoy me. -
But why focus on that? Or any joke, for that matter. All jokes, no matter how light hearted or not, make them go ballistic. They call ad hominems and strawmen on us, while they are the ones doing them. Unless someone is actually insecure, and for some the "wanting sexual gratification" thing, there is no reason to get offended by stupid things like that and on top of that reply to posts that have other/actual arguments in the same way. They didn't get offended for mischaracterization, they never said anything like that. The just thought we were hitting "below the belt". And even an argument of it being against forum regulations!"Below the belt" is a weak spot. That shows insecurity, not trying to remove a wrong accusation.

There are 8 full fledged companions. That's a lot already. There is nothing taken away by the AH. It's just an "addon". You are not forced to use it, it's not a concern of the story; and the only time you'll miss "content" because of it, is if you actually use it instead of the normal NPC companions. Which in your case, you don't want to use it. -
But you see there is some connection. HereticSaint brought "***ping to cartoons" as an argument against me - and Merin defending him on that later on-, even though I never said anyone in here was ***ping to pixels(though them and others certainly did defend the non-separation and abundance of porn mods on nexus with a passion). So is ***ping that important to HS and Merin, that they need to defend themselves from something like that? It's not that we say something, it's that most responses don't have any argument, or tone, besides one that points to that something. Jarpie, Living One, others and myself did bring arguments against romances, but they were just crying about the once in the thousand ***ping comment then. When we got mostly fed up with their attitude, they started changing the term cRPG to fit their own ends and calling us the insecure ones.
