In 3.0 you either min maxed power gamed or your character was at best sub par. Let me be more specific. You either consigned yourselves to never playing over level 12, or you were forced to make twink characters because if you didn't then you could not compete at high level against the enemies the challenge ratings would want you to face. 3.0 was a system that was built on the idea that you should be able to use it to make game breaking character combos. Yes you had more customization, but it was all there literally only for power gaming purposes.

Hiding helmet option
Karkarov replied to namelessthree's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
OH NOOOOO!!!!!! Eh we will live, just have to wait on modders for this one. -
I am slightly disappointed this thread about character customization has actually been a thread about twinking, which has little to nothing to do with "character". I for one am ecstatic D&D 3.0 rules are out the window, it was a game that was literally about nothing but power gaming and it sucked. Hopefully there will be real depth to how you can tool out your character for this game though beyond just the opening questions from Calisca.

No circles below characters?
Karkarov replied to Archaven's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Apparently all "on screen" hud markers will be toggleable. This has been confirmed to include the bars over peoples heads and such. Does it go all the way to the ground markers? That we don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. -
Cooking with Tim ?

Right he has written it but to answer the OP's real question, no it hasn't been released yet. -
Challenging parties
Karkarov replied to Macrae's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hate to bust your bubble but one of the key design tenets of Eternity is the concept of "no bad parties". In other words, they have built the game from the ground up so that it can be completed regardless of what type of party you use. So all wizards should be perfectly viable. -
PoE-saga MMORPG? Please?
Karkarov replied to senturion's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That's why many mmo's have started doing "phasing". Lord of the Rings Online does it the most but WoW and others have played with it too. IE: Do a quest series where a town ends up destroyed? Then in your game when you go there the town is a burned out ruin. Someone else doesn't do that quest though, or maybe saves the town? Then when they go there it is a normal town. It is hard to implement right though.- 139 replies

Karkarov replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I assure you I will be posting video of it, I want the game to sell damnit!!! That said, great news! I told you forumites it would be late august or early september! This is also great because it gives me time to get my Eternity fix before Destiny officially launches on September 9th. -
PoE-saga MMORPG? Please?
Karkarov replied to senturion's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well Destiny is easily my most anticipated game this year, yes even more than Eternity. Okay... put the gun down!!! I will restrain my inner fanboi and cut it to 4 points to help sell you on it though. 1: I hate (or am at least ambivalent) to Halo. I thought the first was "ok" and the second was passable, but I outright hated the third and never thought any of them were worth actually buying. 2: I know people with connections at Bungie, and from what they told me in general Bungie doesn't really even like Halo much anymore and a big part of getting away from Microsoft was so they could make the game they wanted to make. 3: I got into the alpha about a month ago and was impressed enough by the limited content there I feel safe throwing down 150 bucks for the version of the game that is packaged with a little robot voiced by peter dinklage saying things about moon wizards. 4: If you are concerned about how deep the customization rabbit hole goes you can watch this video. Bear in mind it doesn't have all ability details since all abilities haven't been released but it gives you a good idea how it works. One thing I will add the guy doesn't say, you aren't the only thing that levels or can be "locked" for extra bonuses. Same stuff applies to gear, particularly guns. The only "drawback" I am sure many on this site will hate... it is a console only game at least for now.- 139 replies

Maybe but he also said it wasn't finished so it could easily change at any time. Look at Original Sin, it's original character creator when the game went on early access through steam is very different from what we ended up with. That being said I do like it when character creators place your character in an in game setting for a number of reasons. First it lets you get an idea of what your character "really" looks like instead of getting some idealized view you will never see in game. Second, thematically it can be pretty neat to go to creation then "pan out" and the game starts right there. The mmo age of Conan did this really well.

Yes the handing of the ass is a time honored tradition that must be done in order for a game to be truly released and accepted as it leaves it's developers loving embrace. That said I do agree that they are basically different games and can both be appreciated. Original Sin is not a bad game, it just isn't the game I expected from Larian and I think at least for now it is getting a lot of fairly clear flaws ignored for whatever reason. The only advice I would give anyone looking to play it is read the manual before you start and understand you need to play it like a min maxer, it is very very easy to walk out of cyseal with a crap set up and just get owned.

Hiding helmet option
Karkarov replied to namelessthree's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I sort of expect a hide helmet option, this isn't the 90's you can pack quite a bit of detail on even a small character model now. Even if it isn't there it will get modded in by someone like Namutree and Silent Winter said. Many times it does also come down to the helmet. There are like 3 decent helmet graphics in baldur's gate, not everyone wants to look like a crazy barbarian with horns longer than their torso or have a helm with wings so huge your neck should break wearing it. -
Nice opening post, can tell you put a ton of heart and thought into it. That said a "we should include romance" thread literally just got shut down yesterday so your timing is a bit... ironic? Also as Gromnir mentioned the "no romance" thing is old news and the game is now feature locked. At least you put a nice argument behind it. I suspect Eternity 2 will find a way to fit it in though.

no it was confirmed. all actions except moving have a sort of cooldown... or delay between repetition. if you send your fighter to attack, he will swing his sword, then he will wait 2s and then swing again. the bar being filled indicates the passing of these 2s. if you move the character while it charges, the charging pauses I sure hope there is an option to toggle it because I don't want to see them.

A Question of Revenue
Karkarov replied to Natusake's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There you go. If Eternity just matches those sales (and it can) it will easily earn more than the kickstarter did. -
I have a feeling Eternity will hand Original Sin it's ass Bryy. I have 16 hours into that game and I just don't see all the praise that is being heaped on it. It isn't a "bad" game, but it has serious flaws. The inventory management for example is complete ass. Basic leveling functions like "how do I get to 2 points in a skill?" are never explained. Tons of skills are literally useless at just one point like Pickpocketing. Combat is not very balanced, casters and archers are heavily OP at least in the beginning. Like I said before it starts you with two characters but if you don't leave town with 4 you are dead man. It tells you to use your weapons to break doors sometimes... then 16 hours later has never given a door you can break with bashes yet since the tutorial dungeon. I am only level 5-6 and I already feel like I need to loot scum because everything is random and I am getting tired of never getting skill books I can't use and cursed potions out of every chest. It is just obtuse as hell and this would be the first Divinity game I ever felt like you should read the manual before you even boot the game. Even then you still probably won't have any grasp on how to play for at least 5-6 hours.

I guess this was more detailed yes, but so much is also wrong in it I have to wonder how much of that "additional detail" is actually correct. It reads more like it was written by a fanboy not by a professional reviewer, which I guess to some people is a big plus. Maybe it is the translation but for me reading it was kind of a slog, it just isn't particularly well written.

Physical Media Release
Karkarov replied to rjshae's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Uh the physical version best release the same day the digital one does. -
Yeah. I still have yet to figure out how to craft but I am sure it is possible. They just need to turn the tutorial thing into an actual tutorial. Where instead of seeing meaningless pop ups you already saw you can see ... you know... actual tutorials on how to do things and explanation of the leveling system. They also need to be more transparent about skills. One of my characters has pickpocket 2 and literally can't pickpocket anyone... not a single person.

AngryJoe Interview PoE
Karkarov replied to GrayAngel's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah well also to be fair all the videos you are comparing it to are also years old in some cases. Videos still get hits a week after they came out. Also it isn't like this video contained a ton of stuff, it was pretty short and mostly things anyone "into" the game already knew.
