Game looks great, but...
Karkarov replied to Zwiebelchen's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Just to throw this out there but the character model from the combo I image I posted on page one is in fact from the character sheet screen. So at least we got a decent quality look at it somewhere in the thread. I know you posted it up as well and I don't know how or why it happened but yours came out really blurry. -

Sorry but Is your avatar a pic from NWN2? My avatar? No. It is a screen capture of my character from a game called Dragon's Dogma. It is an action RPG that released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. -
Inconsistent UI (PC Gamer Demo)
Karkarov replied to dasfalke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Eh I will be surprised if they didn't actually create the UI elements at a very large resolution then just have them scale down based on the res you play at. -

I felt the paladin and fighter looked pretty solid too in their chainmail and breastplate. -

Uh Wasteland 2 looks like crap. No seriously, the game is ugly as hell. I guess it is intended due to the setting but seriously dude. Divinity Original Sin I will also bet money had a much much larger budget than Eternity does, additionally, Eternity is being made as a modern reboot of the IE games. The IE games didn't have 3d backgrounds. Here is a pic I made purely for people to see some of the most complained about or considered UI features. I made it using the very detailed and complete PC Gamer full demo video that posted their video in as good a quality as can be done. There is still quality loss of course but it gives at least a better idea. The key things I want to point out is #1: It is actually the Dialogue window which has the blurry harder to read text in my opinion. None of them are actually that bad though and I imagine without the compression of video they would both be perfectly legible by any normal person. The character model does look rough on the inventory screen, but much of that could be the nature of the ugly hide gear and the uh.... interesting color choices for their main and secondary colors. All of these elements are merged into one picture but are at their 100% normal full screen resolution if you were playing the game in 1080. -

Yeah after watching these videos I am upset too. The game is great but it doesn't make me a sandwich or blow my nose for me. What the hell Obsidian? Seriously guys, stop trying to make graphic quality assessments based on uploaded video. I have uploaded hundreds of videos to youtube, I don't care what you do when you upload them, what format you record them too, how high quality you create the video itself, or what resolution you recorded at. When the upload is done there will always be quality loss, period. A video is NEVER a 100% perfect representation of graphical quality. Does the character model zoomed in look great? No. Does it look as good a Diablo 3 characters? Yeah, I would say pretty close maybe a slight bit worse. Does it look a ton better than Wasteland 2 character models? Yes. There is no time or resources left to dedicate to making higher quality models or redoing character creations backbone. Maybe they can throw something in on the inventory screen but I bet for every person who doesn't like the character there at least 1 other person thinks it is okay. I certainly do. -
what are the min attributes per class

Ahh, my bad. Nonsense, you simply failed to smell what the Sawyer was cooking and he dropped the Obsidian Elbow on you Kjaamor. -

I love this post if for no other reason than that it is changing the subject. A small close knit internet forum has never been and will never be the place to discuss social issues or display the arrogance to believe you fully understand them or that it is ever all black and white/one sided for either cause. So let's move on and discuss those totally over the top trap graphics. -
Uh well all characters are heavy role playing characters. Role playing isn't about having high charisma and being a political dynamo, it is about making a character then making decisions and taking actions based on how that character would handle those situations. Your character can be a mentally stunted dumb oaf who wears a trash bag for clothes and still be a "role play" character.

That's not true, people are not always the same as they were when they were children when they grow up, for a number of reasons. I dunno about you guys but SOME of the FX are over the top to me, just like the FX in Grim Dawn are way over the top with too many fluro lights. If I'm noticing that the FX are too strong, then I think that's a bad thing because that's something that rarely ever bothers me. Played a little b-ball outside after school did you? You should be happy FearRabbit stepped in, I could have kept this going for days.

Dishonored doesn't have kill EXP either and even seems to be a game that wants you to stealth everything and I left a helacious pile of corpses behind me in that game. It will be fine for Eternity. The no kill exp is honestly a good thing because it doesn't force you to go murder munchkin just to max your exp or to choose a violent solution over a non violent one simply for fear of lost reward.

You guys are wayyyyy too anal about those effects. Let someone other than the wizard do something other than generic weapon swings. I barely even noticed them in the video what with watching the action bars, and looking at name plates, and trying to focus on learning new stuff not seeing just how glowy the glowy torch is ;p. Also I can tell that the playground was not where Sensuki spent most of his days.

Giantbomb Quicklook on the 24th
Karkarov replied to Darji's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Oh the missing corpses? That's cause you ate them. Everyone gets hungry after a long caravan trip amiright? But they gotta avoid that NR-17 or AO rating so it all happens in chat.... *more spooky music* -
Did they not flop with Watch Dogs, especially with that whole E3 graphics fiasco. Plus I still can't forgive them for what they are planing to do with PoP franchise. If Watch_Dogs is the worst game you play this year then you had a damn great gaming year. That is all I am going to say about that. As for the topic.... there is plenty of room for both games to have crafting and strongholds and both games to still be good. They aren't competing with each other to begin with and I think people need to understand and be honest about that. The hardcore RPG fan is also probably going to buy both regardless of which one they think is "better" over all. Don't forget the wolf in the room either... Witcher 3 which has no stronghold but will be a serious contender for RPG of the year.

'END CONVERSATION' Suggestion
Karkarov replied to metalmunki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Come on people I already went over there in another thread just a minute ago. There is only one appropriate way to end dialogue or interactions in IE based games. "Eat cold steel!!!" -

Karkarov replied to GrayAngel's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think this is sort of typical to Obsidian's writing. Its characters are usually pretty reserved and in dialogue you rarely show a lot emotion... even Might or Threaten dialogue options are usually more sophisticated and calm than you would expect. Yeah, there was this one time I busted into some crazy iron throne villain meeting in BG1 where the bad guys busted out this big drawn out bit of dialogue telling me what sort of mistakes I had made. I responded quite eloquently by saying. "Eat cold steel!!!" -
^this is a really good point too. Doesn't the video end at this giant purple machine thing... and isn't there some robed figure walking around in front of it? Yeah, he seems to have some buddies with him as well and some sort of humanoid sacrifice to boot. Glanfathans all up to no good, started makin trouble in the neighborhood!

Selection circles design
Karkarov replied to Ovocean's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I thought the selection circles and little ripped from Baldur's Gate movement marker were fine. We don't need elaborate dressed up selection circles, the key point of the UI is function lot winning a design contest. Dressed up selection markers are sacrificing simple ease of use and function in favor of looks. This isn't a shirt, it is a circle saying, yes really you selected this guy not that guy. It needs to be fast, simple, and easy to see at a glance. -
Project Eternity boxed version?
Karkarov replied to Dunedain's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Are you sure? I was under the impression that if you didn't back a boxed copy you don't get a boxed copy.
