  1. I just want my cloth map and soundtrack. I am easy to please .
  2. Dude it is still a niche game what do you want? 40k hits is a lot more than 0. When Obsidian starts letting the youtube reviewers and personalities actually post information beyond the first 10 minutes of the game you will see the attention blow up.
  3. *cough* It isn't real time with pause. I am still messing with it myself. I am finding the combat to be way out of whack. Everything always outlevels me 1-2 levels, and half the time I am massively out numbered to boot. The game starts with two characters then promptly puts you in a "I hope you have 4 characters" scenario. Doesn't make a ton of sense.
  4. Not to my knowledge. The game is based on the Infinity Engine games in theory and the only "random" stuff they had was pretty bland random bandit ambushes when you moved from zone to zone sometimes. If there is any procedural content in Eternity, and I don't think there is, Obsidian hasn't even whispered about it.
  5. You are backing the wrong horse ;p. It will still be a few years before a real mmo genre breaker hits. Someone has to get the funding and the balls to nix the trinity and go with a classless system first while developing real enemy AI. In fact I think the best "multiplayer" game coming out this year is going to be Destiny. It is not really an "mmo" per se, but it has many of the trappings of one without a lot of the bad parts.
  6. Why did this turn into another "gamer cred" thread? Seriously dudes move on. I will play on the normal setting myself, because normal is pretty much the game as the dev's intended it in most games. Once I am done there then I will think about trying out the more "gamer cred" challenge levels.
  7. Well you make two big assumptions there Hiro. 1: You are assuming the build people like the most is actually the best build. My gaming experience has taught me that it doesn't actually always play out that way. 2: You are assuming there actually will be a legitimate OP build that is clearly better than the others. While you say this game "looks like 4th ed" I will also mention 4th edition isn't what created those rules either. 4th edition is modeled on MMO's. Specifically Trinity MMO's like World of Warcraft or Everquest. While it is true many MMO's do have a clear "best" build in a certain class for DPS... that rarely stays true for the Tanking or Healing Classes. Dark Souls provides a great example of what I consider to be good balance. Lots of people will tell you Magic is totally overpowered in those games. Yet I play a character who literally has no magic. There are areas I would sit back and snipe with a bow and never go to melee. Yet I could link you videos of players I know who charge right into melee in those situations and make it look easy. Someone might say tactic X is the best most OP way to beat a boss, but I could tell you about tactic Y that will work just as well and if done right is not any harder. It is a great game because there are multiple ways of playing it, nothing is over powered in "every" situation, and even when something seems so OP it is obvious to use someone else will take a different approach that looks just as equally OP but is totally different in execution. It is an action based game so you can't draw direct parallels, but it is what RPG's should strive for when it comes to challenge and balance. Dark Souls is really never "easy" but with the right plan it is also not necessarily that "hard" either. The trick is no matter how good one approach looks there is always another method that someone else will use that is actually just as good. So when I tell you in Dark Souls I think melee with ranged back up is really powerful what I am really saying is... for me personally melee with ranged bow attacks in certain situations is the best way to play.
  8. I will keep it even simpler. Most new businesses don't make any actual profit until they have been running for five years. No joke. If they aren't making any money how are they in business? Why does Microsoft keep making Xbox when they have to this day never made money on any of them except the Xbox 360 and that took years of release? If the worst thing that can happen to you in the world of business is "breaking even" (which is the worst thing that can happen to Obsidian since they did not fund the game) then you are in a pretty damn good position. For that to happen this game would have to sell like crap though. Therein lies the rub... it won't break any sales records, but it won't sell like "crap" either. Meanwhile maybe you guys didn't notice but they are running other projects to. This is not a indie start up of five guys, they are not going to go out of business if Eternity doesn't sell 1 mil copies and Metacritic over a 90.
  9. Uh.... you understand it is impossible for them to break even right? They didn't fund the game, it was done through donations. Even if it flops and only sells 5 copies they still lost nothing. All they need is one copy to sell post release and they have made profit. Also... it is going to sell plenty of copies.
  10. Actually it could work well in the scripted encounters where time is a concern. You get the animated image, you read the description of the scenario, then you get a button you click... Make your Choice! Then your options pop and since you have to read them you get say... thirty seconds to a full minute to make a call. Conversation wise I don't really see it working, but then you can always just lock conversations to force you to choose something anyway. Just include the "say nothing" option in there for those who need it. Meanwhile has this gone off topic or what?
  11. I don't know I am just going to keep saying Eternity. I am okay typing it out.
  12. Thinks back to his youth where he went outside playing football and hide and seek..... Wait..... no.... Actually I was too busy playing Dragon Warrior on my NES and Ultima games on my PC.
  13. There's a class idea right there: The Dumb: Incapable of original thought, this character is only capable of repeating the last action they saw - careful timing is necessary to ensure 'fireball' doesn't become 'flee in terror' They already have that in Final Fantasy so, it is the Mimic class. No.... not the man eating chest.... though now that I think about it that would make a great character class.... What about a man eating Armoire?
  14. Let's assume for a minute the game does sell poorly. So what? Obsidian didn't have to fund the game. You have to remember in the publisher model it is important a game sells a lot. Not because it makes the developer a ton of money... because it makes the publisher a ton of money. The publisher then uses these profits to fund your sequel. No profits, no sequel, and maybe no more publisher deals at all. With Kickstarter Obsidian doesn't have to pay anyone back. Every single post release sale is automatic profit. They don't need to sell 1mil copies to recoup their investment, they didn't invest anything. (well they did but we don't know how much and it isn't the point ) Even if it only sells 100k copies (it will sell more than that) at say... 40 bucks a copy (low ball for these days) that is 4 million dollars. You know... what the kickstarter made in the first place? Just trust me, they don't need maybe... 200-300k copies to be sold post launch and they will be capable of self funding the sequel. So unless the games sales totally tank they are in very little danger. Worst case scenario they (god forbid) have to go back to kickstarter for part 2. Just remember... the goal for a developer isn't to become their own publisher, it is to wake up tomorrow and have another game to develop and the money to do it so they can pay their checks. No matter how this plays out Obsidian will have the money for Eternity 2 one way or the other.
  15. Welcome to the forums! Don't feel bad about your donation, your money is going to help make the expansion even better and I am planning to up my pledge soon as well. Also be wary of Bruce.... If he asks you to sign any documents make sure to read the fine print or you might accidentally sell your soul to the gods of forced romance in all video games.
  16. Agreed. However, I was debating this statement from Karkarov: From what I understand of the mechanics so far, only one class can perform this function, the Fighter. The Barbarian can certainly dish out damage but can he tank? Well #1 the barbarian has the highest stamina and HP of all characters. #2 the barbarian takes 1 hp damage every 8 stam damage... everyone else takes 1 hp damage every 4 stam damage. That's pretty telling by itself. However I will also say it isn't me calling Barbarians tanks. It is Josh Sawyer, the lead developer on the game. If he thinks they are tanks there is probably a good reason. I would also remind you they aren't meant to be "stand still and hold the line" tanks. They are meant to be move in fast, attack with ferocity, and quickly cripple a whole group kind of tank. The Fighter is the guy who moves in, draws a line in the sand, and then dukes it out without moving. So while the Barbarian can only "engage" one enemy also remember barbs have move buff abilities that let them literally charge right at whoever they want and have their own moves to tie up enemies. We also haven't seen the complete move list yet. Who knows what else is in their toolbag?
  17. I hate to say it because while I like what you are saying that is a bad example. 1: The demon is an evil soul sucking scum. Sure it made a deal with Conner but it did so by tricking and taking advantage of him.... and he is just a kid confused about his powers. Hardly a fair deal or one made under no duress. So no, you can't see letting the demon live as being "good" on any level. It isn't a person or a lovely deer grazing in the woods, it is a damn demon out to eat peoples souls and spread misery. Not only that but it is heavily implied in Dragon Age demonic creatures don't really die they just disperse into the fade until they can reform. So you aren't really killing it anyway. 2: There was a third option that required no sacrifice of an adult or killing Conner. So it was the obvious "uber good guy" choice. It also has absolutely no negative effects. 3: Time freezes at that point and you could literally take in game months before you made a decision and nothing would happen.
  18. First off, I never said they sucked. I said they could be better and the D&D rules system never works in a PC environment and isn't well balanced. I have played BG2 plenty of times, I have bought it 3 times, I have the extended edition, I still own my original jewel case with the cd's and the ring bound instruction manual. BG2 isn't the greatest game of all time though and held to the standards of modern games is not up to snuff. Hence why I am so excited for Eternity a game made with the same design principles but with modern design progression in mind and free of the D&D ruleset. Also it is impossible to have "totally equal builds" when the design is intended from the ground up to make every class different. A Rogue and a Cipher may do the same job but they will never do it the same way or be equally good in all scenario's. So what you are calling "balance" is wrong already. They are "equally good" in the long run if you count the whole game as one encounter, they are not and never will be "equally good" from one actual encounter to another. If the idea that one class and one build isn't just so OP it is the best possible character is that abhorrent to you.... well maybe you need to go back to playing D&D based games. Of course even D&D doesn't follow that concept anymore, that's kind of a sign by the way. Or you can play the games you seem to despise like Diablo 3 that are actually designed for min maxers.
  19. That's a gross misunderstanding by people who don't know what tanking really is. Tank's will never be the big damage dealers, no matter how good the barbarian is at aoe he will never out aoe a wizard for example. Ponder this though. You are monster, you see two people to attack. One is a caster and the other is some dude in armor. You attack the caster right? Obviously he is more dangerous (a misnomer from the get go but that is for another post) now imagine the guy in armor can physically get in your way and hit you with attacks that are not strong but land and prevent you from getting by? You have to deal with him first right? Imagine the same scenario except now the guy can't hit you. Suddenly you can just walk past him and it doesn't matter. He can "engage" you all day, but if all you have to do is walk away and he misses then there is no real risk is there? A tank needs to be able to hit and damage the enemy too, if you can't hit the enemy you are no threat, if you are no threat they will ignore you, being ignored is the worst thing that can happen to a tank. Hence the reason we call one of the core concepts of tanking "Threat Management". It is about staying just a big enough threat to force the enemy to attack you instead of someone else. You can't do it if you can't actually do damage on some level. Tanking at it's most basic level is just the oldest form of Crowd Control in existence. If you can make the enemy hit you instead of someone else you control his position, if you control the enemies position you control his movement, if you control his movement you control the battle, if you control the battle you win.
  20. Not me. Stun is just reading too much into it. They are balanced in the sense that they are both "equally good" tanks. But tanking is situational. In a situation where it is one on one against a huge Ogre the Fighter is the better tank, period. In a situation where it is 10 man eating snurbluffins the Barbarian is the better tank, period. That's balanced in a sense but odds are good your party is not going to have a Fighter, a Barb, and a Monk. You are probably just going to have one, maybe two of the above. There will always be a situation where your choice was suboptimal, or where one clearly out performs the other.
  21. Lul. There is another forum I am pretty active on where a big discussion right now is the best music tracks from this one game series. Funny thing the thread was originally posted about 5 years ago and got like 8-9 replies. Last week someone bumped it and now it has like 50+ responses .
  22. You guys know the game comes out in December at the absolute latest and could in theory even hit late November for black Friday? I can't imagine a game dev could want much more than their game landing on the steam front page on black Friday. So it seems like waiting for October is maybe a bit much. If the beta is only going to be a month or two at best you may as well not even have it because they aren't going to do anything other than bug fixes with 1.5 to 2 months to go. The game will basically be done at that point and they will just be "polishing/fixing" and you don't need thousands of people in beta to do that. I would like to see it land somewhere in later August or at least early September so we could have some level of input and maybe effect the final product slightly more than. "Yeah Josh that door going into the basement of the Eomund's Manor actually puts you in the basement of the Granary, clearly a miss placed transfer tile."
  23. Yeah, the crowdfunder ended when they locked in costs. I also concur. We should start a petition as well to get the name changed as is it is pretty bad. I suggest Masters of Eternity. What a great name. Then no one would be confused when they say PoE anymore as they would know that is Path of Exile. Eternity would then become MoE..... oh wait.... Then again, maybe the title is okay on second thought.
  24. Hmmm Osvir.... LARPing is probably not the word you were looking for there. Eternity is already doing it the right way. The intro sequence where you are asked all the questions and they fill out your bio based on answers. Many reviewers stated they were told your answers would come up again and could have an effect on your story. Writing custom bios and all is great, but the game cant read my custom bio and it will never have any bearing in my game except in my head. Also many times the game will place you in a situation with no choices your "idealized" character would actually make. For a single player RPG it is better off just to let the game handle origin and hope it lets you weigh in a bit then roll with the punches while keeping a basic idea of how you want to behave/view the world.
  25. I agree, there should be some sort of "holy sword" in there somewhere. Why not a "holy battleaxe" too while we are at it? That said it doesn't need to be so strong it is better than all other weapons, and it doesn't need to be restricted to one class. It's a single player game... Right and if it weren't balanced and there were some bad ass weapon that was better than all other weapons in the game but only paladins could use it.... Everyone would not only go out of their way to get that one weapon, but everyone would have a paladin in their party too just to use it. You may not think that matters but some players might want to... I don't know... not have a paladin? Maybe the Dev's put in all this time on the classes too thinking you might try them all and not favor one over all others because it is simply "better" due to some metagame reason? Maybe they want you to be excited about all their cool end game weapons, not just the holy avenger? Not everyone just wants to cheese their way through a game. Actual game balance helps make that possible, even in single player games.
