Steps to reproduce... Load the save game file. Somehow today on loading my Cipher character I found my Cipher now has 1, yes 1, Dexterity. It isn't a debuff as rest did not remove it. I never noticed it until loading the save so sadly I don't know what exactly might have caused it. Was it some corruption when it loaded? Was it an after effect of the debuff I took for removing the bloods influence from Aelys? Was it some debuff from a spider or a beetle? I don't know. I tried reloads, I tried resting, I tried letting my main get knocked out in combat and recovering, all no dice. His dex stayed at a 1. Here is a rar file with all my logs, including the error one, and the save file where I first noticed the issue. http://www.mediafire.com/download/w51rj0dq5v55929/Dex+1+logs+and+save.rar

^ That. Disagree with the rest though, and i think lack of magic duels will be an area PoE will be worse than BG2, just as IWDs were. If you want to play "Your a Wizard Harry" go ahead Malekith. I am not interested in a combat and game system where the only important character is the Mage. But we have been round the roses on that one enough. The important point is the game does feel like an IE game regardless of the mechanics being different.

Feedback about the new inventory: the "stash" system
Karkarov replied to AdaMusic's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Only feedback I have about this system is.... Why did we bother with individual inventory again? Just axe the "stash", make your inventory window just be a big infinite bag that takes up the whole side, and characters who don't pre slot an item (you get 4 come on) in the quick use slots just don't get to use items not slotted in combat. Then you just use the already included sort features on the main inventory screen with it. Problem solved. -
What you call fun mage battles I call "Counter the Mage: The Game AKA: The worst combat system ever created!" In fact I have many epic posts on these forums about just how much it sucked to play BG2 past a certain point because literally every fight boiled down to using the same tactics the same way in every single fight and the fight was always won the moment you took down the mage. Namutree: Jesus man tone it back. The game definitely looks like the IE games, feels like them, sounds like them. The mechanics aren't identical? We knew they wouldn't be going in. It definitely plays in a very similar way to BG2, to deny that the game play is very close to the same is.... just false. You may not like the mechanics behind it, but it plays exactly the same, you pause, you issue orders, you micro manage, you buff, you debuff, etc etc.

Combat, engagement and indicator request
Karkarov replied to JohnnySideburns's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Very similar to the post a few up from here, still just as valid. We do need more feedback and indicators to show who is engaging whom, who isn't engaged at all, and combat is a teensy bit too fast. -
Combat/"engaged"/confusion/clarity...
Karkarov replied to sheriffharry's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yeah there definitely need to be some feedback clarification there. -
Perception, Resolve, and dump stats! Oh, my!
Karkarov replied to Ganrich's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Well that is just it, they don't need to opt into Con with or without perception/resolve changes. So it is a non issue, Con has always been and will always be important though because no matter what someone in your party will get hit eventually and or fight in melee. Con just doesn't enter into this issue. Assuming we gotta have 6 stats, I would again, suggest either what I already said or maybe just scrap the interrupt since lots of people don't like it and go with Perception = some sort of deflection bonus + crit percent and resolve = + crit damage and - crit damage when you take a crit yourself. In many ways that would be super elegant because you could then see natural stat groups... the two hander cipher will want might, resolve, and "some" dex/con. Meanwhile they can mostly dump int and perception. You hit hard, and when you do crit they are massively devastating. The ranged rogue with a bow can go hard into dex/perception and only sorta at might/resolve then dump int and con. He is at range so rarely gets hit, no real aoes, and while his individual hits wont be huge they will attack fast, hit often, and crit fairly constantly to compensate for the lower base damage.- 58 replies

This is like Headbomb said, an MMO thing. It is fine as it is, the question comes down to this: Do you want to hit fast and often or slow and hard? As the system stands a character who plays with a two hander DOES benefit more from Might. What if you wanted to play a duel wielder though? Might is not as significant stat because like you said lower damage numbers means lower percentage, but if you buff Perception and Dex instead you will hit very very often and have the interrupt effect often as well slowing enemy counter attack. Thus you hit for much less damage, but because you attack more often and rarely miss it evens out. You could say "what about high dex with high might on a two hander", answer is: no change. You still attack slower, you still land fewer hits, maybe you come out slightly ahead but it is very comparable and the other guy has more room for other stats since he doesn't have to pimp might. As the system stands it isn't obvious what you should do when creating a character but that is sort of the point. It leaves room for true customization and choosing your stats based on your character concept not choosing your concept based on stats. In other words, while your observation is valid Sensuki, you only prove it is working as intended by making it. No denying this math is true Doppel. You are forgetting one thing though. You can hold two daggers, not one, and they do attack faster over the long term. This isn't a turn based game. While combat start GO!!!! Means I get my two hits and you get your 1 2 hander hit... I will get to attack again before you, and over the course of a long play session you may be shocked to find out the duel wielder will likely match or beat the two hander long term.

Beta suggestion: broader selection of starting weapons
Karkarov replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I agree Junta, just giving more weapons to the BB guys outright is a good idea. It seems sort of weird that the main character always shows up with bare bones level 1 gear to begin with. -
You know the weapon vessel thing is a bug everyone is seeing right? It is a beta, quests will be bugged. Also try paying attention, when you walk in the room the tanner is complaining at his assistant for losing something? Maybe it was the key? Maybe you should, I don't know, try searching the room? The game is obtuse because that is what the backers wanted, that is what the IE games were if you didn't know D&D before you booted them. I agree about the AOE things and character stat point.... the rest not so much.

Cipher: Puppet Master and Whisper of Treason
Karkarov replied to jde3's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Same here, either stood there or exhibited no actual behavior change. -
When you try to reinvent the wheel there is a good (actualy a 100%) chance that your new hexagonal wheel will not work as good as your traditional round wheel (see guild wars 2 for reference) This is the part where I remind you guys that they don't have a D&D license and as a result can not copy the systems of the Infinity Engine games and as such had no choice.

Perception, Resolve, and dump stats! Oh, my!
Karkarov replied to Ganrich's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
That's not a bad idea, just make the interrupt itself more significant. After thinking about this more I think Monocle's idea is good but maybe should only be like a 1 second stun. I still think a slight bonus to deflection should go in. Will that make a huge difference? No, but it will make it a helluva lot more attractive to melee characters. Resolve .... maybe we should give it the increased % chance to crit. People underestimate crit percentage quite a bit and if you got even a .5% per point of resolve you should see people be a ton more willing to stat it than they are now. Either that or you give it flat damage reduction, but again, this doesn't solve the problem of range characters still not valuing it. The real problem is we have a 6 stat system just to be reminiscent of D&D, D&D invented the dump stat it is no coincidence it had 6. As I said my initial resolution is ballsy but i still think it is the best one. Scrap Perception and Resolve, and remake it as 1 stat. Do that and make it stun/resist stun like Mococle suggested and you have a very strong stat that is useful to all characters.- 58 replies

This post makes me wish this forum had a dislike button. This game needs less BG because most of this games real flaws come from them wanting to do something original with vision but being handicapped and having to make it reminiscent of the Infinity Engine games.

The abilities are fine. The classes with lots of per encounter abilities have a much more limited set of ability choices. The characters with limited ability uses have tons of abilities to choose from. It strikes me as being fairly balanced and I have had plenty of fights so far where I got plenty of ability uses in.

Character Creation Aesthetics and STUFF
Karkarov replied to Sirabot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Okay I don't mind people hating on the models a ton because you are right they are not top shelf high end Crysis models going on here. Of course anyone with common sense knew that was never going to happen. Neverwinter Nights 2 character models do look better, you are right. Of course they are also far larger, the game was fully 3d and designed to be played with a much closer view (you could even play it with an over the shoulder view), and yeah.... the budget was likely a metric ton larger. Pillars of Eternity had a 4.5 million or so budget, that is chump change when compared to most modern games. They also had to make a heavily modified version of the unity engine, stick to their core concepts of a re-imagining of Baldur's Gate and other Infinity Engine games (which I feel handicaps more than helps), and build an entire world, it's lore, and create a new unique rule system to govern it. Something had to give, and since you only see the character models from a great distance every once in awhile close up it is pretty obvious where the giving should start. That said the models do look better than the Wasteland 2 Models and I find it really funny you guys actually like that snapshot feature considering how outright ugly those characters look.- 65 replies

Some UI improvements (and a small bug)

You can to change your current formation mode yes, but you can't press a button to pull up the actual formation configuration tool. -
Some grammatical assistance for the devs
Karkarov replied to Tartantyco's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
You guys do know this is an AD&D third edition political correctness throwback right? They are literally just copying what D&D does here since so many backers want this as close to BG as possible. -
Yeah it is a beta, they were upfront there would be bugs and balance issues they wanted feedback. Don't be shocked when you find.... bugs... and balance issues.
-
True. Once you got the right tools some fights became a joke. I made a thread I think got buried but when I gave my Cipher than sword Justice from the shop and he leads every fight with a crit... I have a pic of him two shotting a wood beetle and critting a stone beetle for 120+. Too bad the crystal spider is near immune to slashing and laughed it off.

I agree with the targeting change and that people should have the option to always have markers on, but the rest of this is fairly nit picky and very opinion based. The single pixel thing is a bad idea though, people are already complaining about a lack of clear markers and you want to make them even smaller?

Greatswords ...
Karkarov replied to ivenend's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You've got that right, Karkarov. Man those guys are over priced as holy hell. Those don't even look like traditional hand forged swords. 1.5k for what looks like a machine made blade? F that.
