  1. No the jury went out on that a long time ago and it came down unanimous the fighter was pretty darn boring in the IE games regardless of how you played them. In this game at least they have a important job that while being boring and unfun is actually as important or more important than every other non tank classes job. All the fighter really needs is a few more abilities that give them some versatility like a charge attack so they aren't so static.
  2. And in IE games all the fighter amounted to was an auto attack bot until the final few iterations. Which were all based on third edition. Which is D&D, which is not present in this game. Thanks for proving my point.
  3. But there's no cover, really. I already posted about the one kinda out of place wolf encounter in Baldur's Gate 1 that had a 'quest' to it. This one feels a bit strange. Bunch of Elder wolves roaming around an empty ruin for some reason. It's not a good encounter anyway, and if it's going to stay there there should at least be some reasoning behind it. Other than hmmm what to put here .... some wolves I guess. I also thought the beetles on the road was strange as well which others have agreed with. The amount of pathable terrain near all of these encounters (not much) gives the area a cramped feeling of exploration as well. Again a nit pick. I never felt this way and it isn't like it takes a long time to clear them out. If anything I feel the outdoor areas are too small though. But who knows, this is just the beta there could be tons of larger areas out there. Let's not forget the biggest gripe of Baldur's Gate 1. Huge amount of huge wilderness maps filled with..... nothing! It made perfect sense and was totally lore friendly, but it was boring as crap too and most players didn't enjoy it. I can't help but feel they designed this wilderness with the Baldur's Gate 1 feedback very much in mind. Also just to throw this out there people, listen to chatter in town. This IS the wilderness. Some of the people in town even seem incredulous that you are even there and ask why you would bother coming to some back water. This is not Waterdeep, it is a remote village surrounded by woods. There is nothing unusual at all about the roads being unsafe, wolves prowling around, or the wildlife having free run. Cause I get the distinct feeling no one ever much visits the place and no one bothers patrolling the roads.
  4. While I like your post, there is a problem. Classes in this game regardless of build stuff are broken into some main categories. Support, Damage, and Tanking. It is called "The Trinity" it is used in almost every MMO that exists. Problem: You can't tank from ranged. In Eternity speak, you can not "engage" an enemy from range. The entire class concept of the Fighter is stamina regen, high deflection, can engage multiple enemies. Every single one of these core class concepts is meaningless if you play them at range. When Obsidian says "we want to support all builds" they don't mean "we want to support playing a character in a way that is blatantly against that characters role". No one is asking to play a melee mage who never casts spells, or a priest who has no buffs or stamina heals. So why does everyone want to play a fighter that doesn't tank? The problem is again, this isn't D&D, and it it were D&D it would be 4th edition not second or third where you could become a ranged fighter if you wanted to. Being a ranged fighter in eternity simply wont work unless they massively overhaul the fighter class and how engagement works. Too much effort to support one very weird and very unpopular build of a single class. I do agree that all the ranger needs is to have his abilities switched slightly so they aren't "range" specific and they will be fine. But again, that's a very simple fix.
  5. Do not make him go in to it Sensuki, for the love of god don't, you won't like it when goes in to it! Get of it Karkarov, there is obviously room to discuss this and the points he makes are valid. Only they aren't and he has already done it in two different threads both of which got actual dev responses explaining their reasons that he refused to listen to.
  6. Do not make me go into this again Sensuki. This conversation has been had to death and you know it. This is the third time you have made this same post, move on.
  7. This. Most of your suggestions are fairly reasonable for the most part Sensuki but this pure nit picking. Every encounter doesn't need some long drawn out narrative excuse and to have tons of back story behind it. Why are the wolves there? Because making your home in an old ruin is a ton safer and more cozy for a wolf pack than the middle of a bunch of trees or a cave filled with killer spiders I imagine.
  8. No. When petrified you take 0 stamina damage. The problem is you take all damage straight to health, they get a 4x damage multiplier on you, and it looks like the mobs do the same damage as if they were hitting your stamina. So instead of it just being 20 damage / 4 x 4 = 20 health damage.... it is 20 x 4 = you just took 80 straight health damage.
  9. I said it before, will again. This is the biggest problem people have with this game, they want to play it like it is 2nd edition D&D but it isn't any edition of D&D.
  10. Yeah junta that's fine, but those spiders apply it with a 100% chance right now it seems like and basically instant kill you with the hit. Because they will then turn around and hit you once for some insane amount like 67 damage x4 = one shot kill. I have screenshots of combat logs where they did the hit, the effect, and the 4x damage all on one attack and it took a full health character straight to dead off one hit. I kid you not. If they call that working as intended they have a serious problem.
  11. It doesn't really bother me. I expect there will be more portraits before the game actually launches but even if they aren't.... you can always make your own. So there is already no way you wont be able to get a portrait you like, you may have to make it yourself, but it can be done.
  12. You can already do this, it is in the options.
  13. You could always just set up auto pause every so many seconds. I am pretty confident slow mow, plus a pause every 3 seconds should be more than enough to cover it.
  14. Thank you kind Kitty Cat. You are the bestest.
  15. I would say the stuff going on down in the Dyrford Ruins qualifies as sinister.... just sayin...
  16. Ran into same problem, had two as well, both came from the ruins didn't buy any of them. Doesn't matter long term as there are alternate routes around but it is annoying.
  17. I will pop on once I get to my next day off.
  18. I still don't think it is as simple as you are making it out for a couple reasons. 1: Grazes reduce your damage by a huge amount like 50% or more. Getting one less graze every 10 attacks will have a very noticeable effect long term. Might doesn't do anything to reduce Grazes, and a Graze versus a normal hit is not a shift of 1% more dps. This point also applies to crits too. 2: We are assuming the Wiki's data is correct in the first place. 3: This is pure theoretical math and not based on actual in game data collection. Years of WoW has taught me theoretical math is never as good as standing in front of a combat dummy for thirty minutes with a calculator. I am not saying your post is poo poo, or that it isn't accurate. Only that it is not seeing the big picture and not based on in game hard data.
  19. What it comes down to is people want to stick to the "every build is viable if played right" concept, but they want more differential between someone with low stats and high stats. Why not just make it so it is 3% instead on might for example and 3 is considered a slight penalty of -3%? Now you get this: 2: -6% (only possible on an orlan / 4%) 3: -3% (6%) 4: 0% (8%) 5: 3% (10%) 6: 6% (12%) 7: 9% (14%) 8: 12% (16%) 9: 15% (18%) 10: 18% (20%) 11: 21% (22%) 12: 24% (24%) 13: 27% (26%) 14: 30% (28%) 15: 33% (30%) 16: 36% (32%) 17: 39% (34%) 18: 42% (36%) 19: 45% (38%) 20: 48% (40%) 21: 51% (Dwarf or Aumaua from Living Lands only / 42%) As you can see if your stat is less than 12 (give or take average or weaker, assuming average is 9-11) then you are getting a lower bonus by varying degrees and at 12 (slightly above average) you even out with the old system. At the highest possible might you are now 9% stronger than the old highest possible might, but you are also -10% weaker at the lowest possible. The numbers also aren't super inflated because at what most characters max will be (18) you are only seeing a 6% difference which is not super huge.
  20. Hmmm well. 1: Fighter - probably decent but not huge might, breastplate/scale type armor, faster weapon with high dex. 2: Paladin - Goldpact or Saint Elega. For melee buff buff. 3: Cipher - Melee damages even if they surprisingly get slightly more range than melee accuracy (is this intended or a mistake???) 4: Priest - Heals, more buff buff, dresses pretty in plate. 5: Druid - Covers required "I am Bear" buff. 6: Wizard - named Harry. My let's play will be epic. Of course he will also use a gun, no one ever said he would use magic.
  21. Best way to learn what is going on is just turn on auto pause for everything. Then every time it pauses check that log and see what happened. Damage resistance isn't that common on mobs so far so I feel okay about it, it is really strong when you do run into it though.
  22. Great idea! He can be the optional boss for PoE 2: The Quest for More Muscles.
  23. I got back to this thread this morning so I took your advise. All I found when I checked my pocket though was this crappy ring. Every time I put it on it gives me a headache and I get the overwhelming feeling someone is watching me. Not gonna wear this thing anymore I tell you.
  24. Wait, interview I read stated that armor choice is supposed to be faster attacking vs better defense, is that not in the game yet? It is in game, and you can definitely tell the difference. Also remember a "fine" leather armor will have close to the same DT as a chain mail or breastplate.... but have like half the speed penalty.
  25. It does, but it is a slashing weapon so doesn't actually do crushing damage ;p. It is either a tooltip error or some sort of inside joke.
