They threw a modifier on his voice just like with Glados, it sounds fine .

It is Diablo, you didn't need to hack anything to know the storyline would suck and the itemization would be bad. In fact scratch that.... it's a Blizzard game. Same rules apply. The real offender with that game was the Real Money Auction house and I don't recall anyone raising a storm about it until after release.

You guys are way off base. There is nothing passive aggressive about what I say or how I say it. I say exactly what I mean and not one word more. If it sounds aggressive it is because it is intended to. Passive is not a word I would ever use to describe myself. Judging the quality of content you have to hack the game to see is meaningless because that content is not being presented to you. Like I said, if they present something as "final" and it sucks, feel free to get the torches and pitchforks. They have not even presented Pallegina's voice at this point however so lets be a little less Minority Report about it.

If they cut Cadegund I can sort of understand because wasn't she supposed to be a paladin? With only eight companions I am sure they don't want to double up. That said how many of the original concept art characters ARE in game? We know Adair/Eder/whatever his name is now is in but he is vastly different.... so much so that other than having a beard and the same name pronunciation he is not the same character anymore. They even changed his hair color and skin tone . So what you are saying is that they are not party members. In other words, they "might" be in game but are not going to be joining up. Forton is no loss, hated his concept art from the get go and hate martial arts based monk characters in European fantasy settings for more reasons than I care to recount.

So uhm, is the beta part of the final game or not?
Karkarov replied to Mayama's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
The beta is in game, it is the Town of Dyrford, there have been many many many screenshots, audio samples, and videos containing it in many different materials. It was the area they used for the vertical slice and they decided to reuse it for the beta. Why? Because it has nothing to do with the main plot and would contain no, or very very little/vague, bits about the main plot itself. I am sure the final version will contain far more than the beta version of the area does as Elerond pointed out. -
Maybe I need to start going at this forum like I did about the Destiny Alpha. Here let's link a nice video so everyone understands what non final voices sound like. I am sure we will recognize this one. http://youtu.be/STlRBD3spIo?t=3m47s What's your point Karkarov? My point is simple. Stop trying to hack the game and base your judgements on what is actually presented in the beta. When we get Pallegina as a companion in game we will here her final real voice. If it sucks then feel free to unload. Right now there is no evidence to indicate any voice in the game isn't just placeholder. In fact this voice isn't even in the game so why did it even get a thread?

Which tier did you choose?
Karkarov replied to Althernai's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I ended up around the 200ish or so range. That is not exact, but the exact number is also meaningless. Suffice to say if I could have had anything... I would have had the design an adventuring company/mercenary group whatever tier. Sadly I am not independently wealthy. -
Replayability and PoE - a reality check
Karkarov replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I can't concur about Fallout NV. It wasn't a bad game, but it was a bug ridden mess, the Legion was almost a moustache twisting silly villain they were so over the top evil, House was just how to put it.... off his rocker and cliche, and the Enclave/Steel Brotherhood had very minor parts to play. I liked the handling of the NCR at least. Also I don't care for the post apocalyptic setting, it is tiring to look at and play through. You can be post Apocalyptic and not be a desert or a burned out city with no vegetation/life in it. The Last of Us did this quite well but.... oh god console game must be crap . -
Replayability and PoE - a reality check
Karkarov replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I love that you mention Frodo because he and Sam are classic examples of good character development. Frodo starts out happy about life, adventurous, maybe a little sly but honest and forthright.... By the end though he is basically a walking shell, withdrawn, anti social, and just wants to leave life behind and move on with the elves to wherever it is they go. At the critical moment when it was all on the line he even fails and actually gives in to the ring. Sam on the other hand started out as a good natured but maybe a little naive gardener who was just along for the ride and had no clue what was really going on. At the end of it all though he found his courage, even though they fail to show it in the movie he resists the rings influence at one point, becomes pretty smart himself, and in many ways is the real hero of the group. Once again in the sadly cut part of the book it is Sam who organizes and leads the shire in rebellion against Sauruman who took over after his defeat at Helm's Deep. In my opinion it is Sam who is the real protagonist of LotR not Frodo. -
Pretty disappointed, this launches in December?

We also have this thing called the Golden Rule where I am from panther. So when kherman acts like a jerk and starts insulting people he basically is saying "I am a jerk and it is okay if people treat me like trash." Since all his posts either make no sense, just rampantly insult other people, or admit to posting drunk I would find someone else to say "cheers" to. Thanks, I am holding up fine though. -
Sensuki's Suggestions #015: Animations & Model Collision
Karkarov replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Grim Dawn looks better than I expected, may have to look at giving it a spin and comparing it to the more recent stuff. Titan Quest sure is showing it's age though. I am surprised you didn't rag on grim dawn during that video though what with how floaty that run was looking -
Would team based turn based work well here?
Karkarov replied to wolfstriked's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Ship has already sailed it is too late to change it and none of the IE games were turn based and this is a "spiritual successor" to the IE games, so no not happening. That said, would turn based have worked? Yes it very well could have, but that is a moot point as it was never on the table. -
Replayability and PoE - a reality check
Karkarov replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Amen. I have only wiped in the beta from the cheese ball encounters with the bugged guys that can one shot you when I either A: didn't know they were there yet. Or B: my lock down tactics just had bad luck and RNG decided they all grazed or got resisted. That said it is because I understand the underlying system of the game and I know how to play to my parties strengths. If I were just zerging it all I would have wiped more times than I care to imagine. As for Indira's OP I agree with your core reasons for replaying though not how they apply to the IE games. In all honesty I find the combat highly repetitive in all of them, nor do you ever "have" to use different tactics. The same basic strategy used to kill 5 goblins is just as effective against 5 plate armor wearing mercenaries. The same plan to kill one mage is normally just as effective against every other mage. Additionally, call me old fashioned, but when I read "character development" I don't think "leveling up, stat choices, talent points, skill selection, blah blah" I think about how their story and personality develop over the course of the game. Something the IE games were very hit or miss on. Some NPC's were great like how Jaheira developed from BG1 through the end of BG2: ToB. Others made me want to punch someone in the face.... like Aerie. For me there are three reasons I primarily replay a game. 1: I really liked the story/plot and want to experience it again, irregardless of it's linearity or lack thereof. 2: The plot had branching elements and it is impossible to see it all in one go and I want to see what else was there. 3: Tons of room of character build options and I just want to experiment with something else. 4: The gameplay, it is simply fun to play the game regardless of it's story or character/build elements. To me most of the IE games only really hit on 1 maybe 2 of those points depending on the game. So I can't say I have replayed them tons, cause I haven't, maybe 3 times for BG1-2 and 2-3 times for NWN2, the rest I only beat once and never touched again. Personally I am hoping Eternity can top that by having a story that really is not linear and has real branching options to it (NWN2 is the only IE game I feel like managed that on any level), has more fun gameplay than the IE games did, and a stronger story. -

Oh so you are basically posting while drunk. At least now your posts complete lack of quality and huge amount of idiocy make some sense. I also appreciate you assuming I was posting just about you, and going out of your way to mention you haven't even played the beta yet think it is okay for you to post about the beta in the beta forums and how bad it is. Here is some friendly advice. If you haven't even played it, either take it to the non beta general discussion forum or shut up. Also maybe don't post while drinking because you just look like a moron. Meanwhile I did play the early releases of Divinity Original Sin, and yes, it was just as bad on it's first release as the first release of Eternity was. Maybe slightly less buggy, but not particularly fun to play or interesting either and combat was balanced even worse. @Junta: Mostly I am just tired of the same broken record posts over and over. All of us who have played the beta know it has issues. We gave our feedback. We know a patch is coming in the next week or so. There is no point to continue to belabor the point when the things being complained about might have already been fixed. Or in simple terms.... where I grew up we have a saying. If you don't have something good to say, don't say anything. -

Karkarov replied to khermann's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Are you guys complaining a clearly still in progress beta isn't as good as a fully released game called Baldur's Gate 2 that has had almost a decade of patching and fan contributions to it again? Could we at least wait for the backer beta to get it's first patch before we keep beating a dead horse? This is a BETA, a REAL BETA. This is what they are all like, get over it. -

That is so hilariously accurate, yet sad at the same time. You were the chosen one. You were supposed to bring us the best RPGs, not get bought by EA. Yup, we all always hope once the machine swallows an innovator "this time it will be different, this time the brilliance of my beloved dev team will tame the Corporatus Malignus..." And it never happens because greed. Bioware, Id, so many more.. Right cause those mass effect games and dragon age origins were totally ****, nothing good about them at all. Seriously guys, Bioware is fine. Things change and companies adapt as time moves on, we should do the same. As in getting over hating Bioware because they decided to make Mass Effect 2 instead of Baldur's Gate 3. -
True non linear story line
Karkarov replied to Ulquiorra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I don't remember how things were in games before Morrowind, but in Morrowind even though you were able to kill storyline NPCs, killing them unable your ability to complete main plot and game informs player that this is the case (like for example killing Vivec) , in Oblivion and Skyrim you can't kill storyline NPCs until their role in plot is fulfilled. Nope not true. It warned you in morrowind yes, but there were still ways to complete the main plot even if you whacked vivec for example. There was a certain combination of 2-3 dudes though (vivec being one) that if you killed all of them you were hosed.- 46 replies

True non linear story line
Karkarov replied to Ulquiorra's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well said. How about some clear examples. Linear Story = Baldur's Gate 1. There are side quests but they have no effect on the main plot and you have to do the main plot in order. Partially Linear = Mass Effect 1. You don't have to follow plot in a specific order.... but you do have to do all major plot events. There are some side quests and they have slight influence on the story. Non Linear = Elder Scrolls. Yeah there is a story, but it is pretty weak. Most people ignore it, and would rather just run around and do all the faction/side stuff which can have a big impact on the game world. Meanwhile the main story in many ways can be done out of order and you can even accidentally wander into some parts of it. Some Elder Scrolls games are even so open on plot you can kill key storyline npcs and still clear the main plot. Meanwhile.... who hired you to get all that bear ass exactly, what is wrong with them, what do they need all that ass for, and how exactly are you carrying the 20 bear ass in question?- 46 replies

Odds of that happening are minimal, and I strongly suspect you can easily hit max level without having to do all the content in the game.

The only time there was a pathfinding hiccup was when BB Fighter wanted to move forward but the MC was standing in the middle of a tight path only one person could go through at a time so BB Fighter kind of paced back and forth. I wouldn't really call that a significant pathfinding issue. The only improvement to be had there is some sort of auto response of "The path is blocked" or something being played vocally and tossed in the combat log and maybe making BB Fighter just stand there instead.

Area transition icons - one thing that bugs me

The shading did seem a lot strong this time. Again, could just be artificial contrast from the stream/laptop she was playing on but stuff did look good. There were many nice visual touch ups.
