Restore the "Beatles" Encounter for Hard Difficulty
Karkarov replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I think you are letting your personal attachment what with the while Sensuki Versus the beetles series get the better of you here. It isn't that big a deal and I suspect most are happy with the change. I am fine either way. -
[Mod] Sensuki & Matt516's Attribute System
Karkarov replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I am pretty sure using all caps with like 50 question marks and exclamation points made it a pretty clear exaggeration. -
Uh it is from some phone based app card game actually.... It is called Legend of the Cryptids. Let me see if I can find the image again. Here is a link to the actual artist's Deviant Art page: Thanks :D

Is Might a Dump Stat? Is Perception THE DPS stat?
Karkarov replied to Fiebras's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Not sure I agree with all the nit picking you guys are doing but this line makes tons of sense. -
I agreed with you until #6.

Is Might a Dump Stat? Is Perception THE DPS stat?
Karkarov replied to Fiebras's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I just don't get how something that was so simple and could have been fixed by just giving deflection to resolve and maybe 1/2 other bonuses to perception resulted in half the stats functions completely changing. I like the 10 is 0 thing but the rest of the stat changes are pretty bad in my opinion. Change int back to what it was, leave might alone, leave con alone, give accuracy back to dex maybe even let it keep it's speed bonus though I am not sure it needs it, let perception keep it's range thing give it back the interrupt chance and give it like a small percentage chance to convert hit's to crits, give deflection to resolve. Boom you are done. -
Is Might a Dump Stat? Is Perception THE DPS stat?
Karkarov replied to Fiebras's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
You haven't played a lots of MMOs, stupid Tank players don't live long... I have played more mmo's than any other human being I have ever met. Tanks who can't lift their sword shouldn't live long either but in Eternity Might is a completely unimportant stat for Tanks. You can just leave it at 10 and ignore it, or even lower it to being below average. Same with Dexterity. In fact the only "physical" stat that matters is Constitution. Tanking is a physical activity, you shouldn't be clumsy and physically weak and able to excel at it. Yet that is exactly what Eternity implies. -
[Mod] Sensuki & Matt516's Attribute System
Karkarov replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Action speed alone is still a crappy stat almost anyone can ignore as you will get more benefit from almost any other stat, maybe dual wielders will get mileage out of it. That aside I would rather have gone with what you posted than what they did actually do. Also as for my earlier post.... it was a joke. I am perfectly well aware Sensuki is a guy, life isn't worth living if you have to do it without humor. -
Is Might a Dump Stat? Is Perception THE DPS stat?
Karkarov replied to Fiebras's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Actually from having just booted up the new version for the first time to check out the stat changes I am going to have to post something I imagine will not be popular.... Change it back. The new stats make no sense. If I want to make a fighter who is a powerful tank character I can dump Might and Dex but I want to max out Intelligence????? This makes no sense, and it is non intuitive. Dex is now basically a joke stat you can just leave at 10 for everyone, only casters are going to see huge benefit. Perception is now massively overpowered especially for ranged characters. Intelligence is now must have for tanks where as before it was just reasonably useful. Resolve is now a caster stat that no one else will really get a ton of use out of since interrupts were removed from Perception. I had gripes with the old stat system, I patently dislike the new one. -
Just remember if they take out grazes then they likely put in miss mechanics. So instead of "graze for crappy damage" it turns into "miss for zero damage".

Wait.... Sensuki is a GIRL?!?!?!?!?!?! -
Nice find, hopefully this is popular enough for them to consider going this route.

Sensuki's Suggestions #019: Desynchronized Character Movement
Karkarov replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I am sure this is one of those things they have already noticed and intend to change, it just probably isn't high on the priority line. It doesn't really bother me either way but it should be mixed up a little. Unless we want to RP a military unit!!!! -
While I normally don't agree a super lot with Mr. Carlo and I am not sure about his reasoning here.... He has a good point. I am happy to see we got some official dev response in this thread but a little more communication on when to expect beta updates isn't really asking for a ton and it really only takes a minute or so to post... "So hey guys! Just wanted to let you know we are hard at work on the game and we think the next beta update should be good to go on Tuesday next week! If there is a delay we will post an update."

That's correct Gromnir I was an early naysayer and Sawyer made a post explaining things and such and such. My current stance is wait and see. As the BB stands there is no way to get a "real" picture of the fighters depth because the fighter can only go to level 8 or so. We don't know their full range of skill options or how the stat changes may effect it. Additionally there is always time to add some new powers if needed. My main point in my earlier post isn't so much that I love the PoE fighter as it exists now, only that it is very good at what it is designed to do and is kind of boring to play while still being far more interesting than a BG fighter of similar level. I would like all classes to have some level of maintenance that makes them a bit more hands on. They don't all need to be mage level hand holding but I would like to see a bit more for the Fighter and Rogue.
-
Just to throw this out there but I am sure there will be lore based checks in conversations and scripted events, so there will be plenty of reason there. Also I am pretty sure Lore already says something about it helping you do bonus damage, doesn't it?
-
Since we already have unlimited inventory in game that is sort of a non issue. In a game where you have unlimited inventory I see absolutely no point in per character inventory. Lastly I think we should be able to swap "readied" items whenever we want as long as we are not in combat. Push come to shove make it so you can only do it on a rest or when in a "safe zone" like a town or designated part of a dungeon such as an underground shrine or something.
-
Are they boring? Maybe a little. Are they inflexible or less interesting than their Baldur's Gate versions.... No. Hell no. The main issue both classes have is most of their abilities are passive or modal so you simply either turn them on or off with little actual interaction. They are both very powerful if used correctly, but they are not high maintenance.

Sorry for double post but lets be honest, this effect is so stupidly OP right now it is a hard counter. You have to lock down/cc the Crystal spiders and kill them before they do anything because if you don't and they land one hit the person they hit is going to have a 50/50 of getting petrify. If you get the petrify effect and ANYTHING is targeting you then you have about a 2 second life span. Why? Because not only are you taking 400% health damage, as in you get hit for 50 you take 50 health damage (unless you are a barb ), but you can't move, which means all attacks auto hit, and I believe your DT is basically either ignored or lowered noticeably.
-
Yeah I made a post about this in the bug forum way way way long time ago (like day one of beta). Pretty sure Junta also posted about this and got told it was "working as intended" to which we both responded "uh you better change your intent jolly fast then". Basically it is the old "additional effect" gag again where when you get hit you take 400% health damage. Of course the opening hit does something insane like I got one for 67 damage once (not even a crit) so I took 67 health damage on the same attack that caused the petrify in the first place. Go fig the next hit killed the character, like dead dead, not stamina knocked out. Specifically the crystal spiders do this effect, and it is a side effect of their straight up hit. It is not a special move or anything fancy. Petrify is just the name of the effect that it causes. Though I agree the name should be changed to be more in line with the effect. Something like "You have been afflicted with Bend Over and Take It" would be appropriate.

The Grand Powers Balancing Thread
Karkarov replied to swordofthesith's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yeah, all power uses need to trigger combat. Once they get that in place we will be gtg. Or simply fix it so enemies have the same view distance we do. My understanding is enemy view distance is based on the old fog of war view distance from before the backer beta was released. -
Talents needed for Archetypes Part 1, NWN2
Karkarov replied to Doppelschwert's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I am not sure they want something this extensive for talents. Though I definitely think this is going in the right direction. May be better if you try to think of it purely from a Eternity standpoint and not consider what the other IE games or RPG's do at all. For example you might want to create a talent to support weird stuff like.... fighter talents... Deadly Pressure: Can trigger engagement on enemies with successful ranged hit. Or.... Armsman: +10 Deflection when using a two handed weapon -
Those videos are exactly why I avoid RPG Codex like the plague. There is no sacrifice in the beta if you are heavily emotionally invested in this game. In fact, in many ways it is better for those who are heavily emotionally invested to get involved now and hit that beta hard. Why? Because those who are heavily emotionally invested will be disappointed by this game because it will never, ever, live up to the hype in their minds where they have created goals no real game can ever achieve. Baldur's Gate didn't wow you because you "knew" it would, it did it because it was something new that you didn't expect. Maybe you had expectations but your expectations were reasonable. Better to get your hard dose of reality on the beta so you don't get it on the real game and then sour yourself from what will be a great PC RPG. Deal with it now and you will have time to accept, hey this is how reality works, get your perspective in the right place, and be ready to enjoy the real game in a few months.

Just as an aside they do have knockdown... Maybe give the bigger wolves deep wound too hehehehehehehehe.

I was disagreeing about them not making sense or being out of place. I can see them there, the fact that they exist works for me, my immersion is in no danger. That said BB Fighter can still solo them simply because it is impossible for them to put a dent in his stam due to his high DT and their mediocre damage + low DT themselves.
