  1. There is no cheese, only bacon. I thought that souls would have uses as those described lately, including fighters that use their "Ki" to buff themselves. Seemed quite obvious but apparently that was not the case. Just keep in mind that most people has fractured/broken souls, so they won't be able to grow their potatoes to epic size.
  2. +1 for Wendersnaven race. We get the name of the wizard so only need monk and ranger now. :D I don't fancy the idea of playing stupid characters but seeing the Fallout screenshot... *chuckles*
  3. I'm not Traditionalist/Conservative/Codexian. I'm not a New-Is-Better/Biowarian. I feel excluded.
  4. What about Capoeira? It's "westerner" enough? Dancing monks! On topic: no way I'd like a Malkavian (Antitribu or not) in my coterie. That said, I like Assamites. About the flagelant, he is basically some kind of (religious?) berserker (imho) so not really interested. Altough could be seen as a more original alternative to the traditional one we see in many games.
  5. Once the date hits, Obsidian owns the money and if the pledger doesn't want to keep his end of the bargain with the "within reason".... well, not that USA is not infamous because of its lawyers and silly demands (some of which are successful) but I'd hope for Obsidian being triumphant. Someone demand a Bacon Armor!!!
  6. That would be an awful idea. Like offering party banter as stretch goal*! I think that those are one of those things that eIther they belong in the game, or they don't. But that's just my point of view of the "Companion Package". But if Obsidian wanted to add them as stretch goal, up to them. * Obsidian, you better don't dare or else... I won't be able to prevent it so whatever.
  7. Why do you suppose that Obsidian isn't going to monitor those proposals and balance/tweak them as necessary? The "within reason" is as implied "must be balanced and fit the game".
  8. Fighters in AD&D were very boring and underpowered. Not that they could not kick ass but they really lacked a spine. Fighters in D&D 3/3.5 get quite better and can get some more interesting stuff like cleave. And I'd say that Fighters in D&D 4 are better in the sense that they have their special attacks/maneuvers that make them more interesting than the bland AD&D fighter. Allowing melee (by any class that invests in it) to be more than swinging a weapon makes combat more interesting.
  9. cipher or cypher (ˈsaɪfə) — n 1. a method of secret writing using substitution or transpositionof letters according to a key 2. a secret message 3. the key to a secret message Barbarian: of or relating to a land, culture, or people alien and usually believed to be inferior to another land, culture or people. lacking refinement, learning, or atistic or literature culture. extremely brutal. primitive and uncivilized. stranger/enemy. a foreigner. Paladin: a paragon of chivalry, a heroic champion. a strong supporter or defender of a noble cause. a trusted military leader. a leading champion of a cause.
  10. Oh... sorry about that. You know, now that I look, I don't see a link to the community rules anywhere. Not saying it's not there, but it isn't anywhere obvious. No need to apologize. I just mention it because finding the info is not at hand.
  11. The problem in this kind of games (PnP or not) is that combat has a huge role in them. So they must force some combat stuff in them so players actually use them. I think that it was Avellone who mentioned earlyin the project that classes must be useful in combat so... yeah, whatever. I do remember that d20 book from Alderac about The Legend of the Five Rings when we got a Courtier class (yeah, 20 levels of non combat goodness!!). But in that setting (d20 or their own ruleset), combat is just one of the many things that their bushi/shugenja/ninja/courtier/isezumi/whatever can do (and combat is deadly as hell in the non d20 system, especially if 10s are rolled). I'd have in my party a character that has no combat skills per se but has a great utility factor outside of combat. But that utility must really compensate for having to hide him under a wagon (or behind the armored wizard!) each time a combat starts. I know that most people wouldn't like that but I would. It would be better if the character (class) could actually have/develop some basic skills in combat but at the same time not being forced into the Trinity system. imho
  12. Romance threads are forbidden for the time being due to Blood Wars in the forum.
  13. Comments in Kickstarter have been always restricted to backers, as far as I know. Look at the good side, you can still be an **** sending them a message directly. The situation reminds me in part of that of Wasteland 2 still up there and Shadowrun Returns making its appearence. These people should really consider to space themselves more. Kickstarters that actually expect to make some serious money (old-School RPG certainly aims to almost the same budget as Obsidian, and Shadowrun Return's 400K was quite a lot back in the day... some months ago), should keep in mind that, you know, some people are not made of gold. And expecting them to produce lots of money in a short period of time is like, I don't know, a bit crazy. Supposing that this new project actually provides real information about it that may interests me, due to their timing, I may find myself not being able to pledge. And in the case of being to do so, it may happen only in the last day of it. Small projects don't need to worry about that stuff but these "I need a bazillion" should be more... gentle with our wallets. Way to risk pledges, imho. In any case, lack of some precise info would be nice. Will it be Wizardry? Won't it be? Jagged Alliance? The bullet points are interesting but... er... imho not enough to jump blind.
  14. I love psionic classes but they are always treated as second class in D&D. So I do know the feeling of being left in the corner. Luckyl for me, fighter and rogue are a core class in D&D which means that at least I can play other classes that I like. I was surprised about not having the Paladin class. Fighter, rogue, wizard and priest(cleric)? Yeah, staple basic stereotypes. Ranger and Druid? Yeah, makes sense. Monk? Er... I do like Monks but actually surprised that the made the cut instead of Paladins. And even if Paladins were to be offered as stretch goal: 1) even Barbarians are more "core", 2) would people raise the total pledge to $2,800,000+ just for Paladins? I know that a melee oriented Priest is not the same as a Paladin, but it's closer than a FIghter without any kind of Faith powers. And don't come to me with the "They are not the same". I'm stupid but not that stupid. I know they are not the same. But a regular mundane fighter could behave like a Paladin while not having any kind of divine power. Altough in PE, he would have soul powers/perks/feats. Paladin is something more than "Divine warriors" but a way of life. The exact details, like Holy Avengers, are not that important as the motivation. Bards? I have very fond memories of my PnP half-elf bard but I don't really see the huge appeal for the class. Remember Grobnar in Neverwinter Nights 2? I like the character but as a class... meh. Not that some of his buffs weren't awesome and in PnP, Inspire Courage builds can be abused to epic awesomeness from what I have read. But Grobnar wouldn't just fit in my party. But the more the merrier. I'll, hopefully, get a psionic class so once that is in and considerig that Druid is in too, they can add whatever they want.
  15. If a super being were to present himself before us as God, would he really be God? Or maybe he is just a really beyond imagination powerful martian that taps into religious stuff as a way to validate his claim over us while his apparent powers are just high technology? If people want to believe in something, they will believe despite any evidence provided to them. If they don't want to believe in something, they won't believe despite any evidence provided to them. Is Elvis dead or not? Did we really land on the Moon? Is the story of Bubba-Ho-Tep based on real events?
  16. Maybe these monks use Savate. Altough in our world we have all that artial martist stuff associated to asians, it doesn't mean that PE couldn't have developed similar stuff in a different context that has led to same results. Yes, those who want "Medieval Europe with Magical stuff" wouldn't be happy but I didn't read in Obsidian's pitch for the game "Medieval Europe with Magical stuff". Don't get me wrong, I'd love to play a game (PnP or cRPG) that play in a setting like that (the PnP RPG Anno Domini was a nice ucrony game) and have spanish Inquisitors casting flame strikes on the heretics, but it's fine to have other stuff as long as it's well integrated within the game world.
  17. If Cipher is really psionic, which really sounds like, I only have this to tell Obsidian: Soulknife class. Oh, ok, let's add psychic warrior too. Just related to the heavy armored wizard using a two handed weapon.
  18. Martial arts could be developed in PE by people retiring themselves into monasteries while searching for enlightment and seeking perfection or mumbo jumbo. A PE nation may develop a code like "Bushido" without actually using japanese gear, sticking to longswords, chainmail/platemail and stuff more common to us.
  19. Actually, the player character is in the huge tentacle-thingy. Being digested alive. XD
  20. And no staff or similar. He is ready for melee. The wallpapaer is very good. It only lacks the player character, for obvious reasons, for the six member party. Of those companions, the only one that gives me some doubts is the monk but only because I'm not sure about what is he about. I can see the others and suppose that the ranger is some kind of martial stalker (archer in any case, which is enough for me). But monk? Is it a wizard hunter? A magical jack-of-all-trades?
  21. Still 2012??? FFFFFFUUUUUUUUU... *cough**cough* I mean, awesome update. Must have psionic class and custom NPCs. Must have. I wish I could raise my pledge but as I mentioned once in the Kickstarter, I can only pledge my work force at this moment. So people better start ignoring other projects and raise pledges for this one!!! The ranger does indeed seem as tall as Cadegund but it's ok. And Cadegund looks amazing. Need names for the wizard and the monk!!! Do we have magical tattooes in PE?
  22. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity/posts See new wallpaper.
  23. Isn't Wasteland 2 the one inspiring? PE gave some info about what to expect. I hope that "Old-School" actually goes fast into giving details about... well, something. A Wizardry like game would be nice to me, for example.
  24. Welcome to a fantasy world where laws of physics can be altered by some people due to genetic make up, pacts with entities or who knows how else. If you think of magic like a child does, then yeah, magic does **** and no one knows how. I mean, your wizard may understand the mumbo jumbo but you as a player? No way. But I have news for you, magic in that fantasy world do have rules. Your wizard, who believes himself real as well as the world that surrounds him, knows about those rules and has certain ability to manipulate the reality according to what he knows and his ability. Fireball? He may be creating anti-matter at the target for all we know. He may be just opening a brief portal to the plane of fire. Whatever really happens, as far as the fantasy world is concerned, it's real and works within a set of rules. And if that world was well designed, magic is not something alien to the rest of the ruleset but part of it. As much as gravity or weather patterns. My players were used to lose their hair and clothes from explosive trapped chests or angry dragons. Warrior being fried to death when his metal armor gets hit by a lighting bolt? Impossible if we talk D&D because it's designed to be a heroic system: Hit Points. Not that a DM cannot rule whatever he wants but it's not always easy. "Should the PC/Boss die if an assassin cuts his throat even if he still has 100HP left?" Meanwhile the chainmail bikini... how the hell does it work? Really. Someone explain me why the game being fantasy makes it work. Do the orcs feel compeled to attack the mundane metal parts and ignore all that exposed flesh? Why don't men use similar armors then? Because they sound frakking awesome, right? Use few metal and get the same defense than a regular armor that uses more metal!!! But hey, if people prefer children style fantasy in their games, maybe Obsidian can do a Harry Potter RPG.
  25. But what happens when the voss fire you for not following the instructions (and fail to convince him of how right you actually are)? Or cuts funding? Or cans the almost finished product? (Aliens RPG, nooooooooooooooooooo!!!! T_T) Not that that could happen for PE as once the date comes, they take our money and they could just run with it to some lost island. I'll side with Ignatius. Except for the dragon. I don't really care about how the game is done or the exact content in it. A game that I like is what I really want. A game in the lines of BG/ID/PT. No need to be a clone. It's more than probable that it contains elements that I don't like but as long as I enjoy it, I'll be happy with it, romances or not, boobplates or not, vancian system or not, railroaded story or not,... Meanwhile, while they work in the game, sometimes I'll bother to share my opinion and who knows, maybe one day it echoes within Obsidian.
