  1. It's going to be 2 hours of gameplay and 48 hours of cinematics. I hope they talk more of expansions than sequels. I only see sequels for stuff like new engine, radical changes to gameplay and such, So if they are not in Nip/Tuck mood, do (standalone?) expansions.
  2. I think that Obsidian has fooled me. I thought this was a mature game for mature people. I don't see the mature people. I only see "Burn it with fire" whenever someone mentions something that other people disagree with. And many implications that Obsidian cannot handle themselves and need the forum superheroes to save them.
  3. You can give your opinion. As any other game developer, Obsidian can ignore it as much as they want. If enough people demands D&D as game system, Obsidian should concede too? If enough people demands that everybody in the game world is a pixie, should Obsidian concede? Should people who have pledged more have their opinions be more valuable for Obsidian?
  4. So do I but some people prefer to play characters that are the most resemblant of themselves. I certainly laughed at the possibility of being able to create a black human noble in DAO because it didn't make any sense in the story (I played a female asian human though because I certainly appreciated the customization possiblities despite implying that my character was adopted or that "my mommy" had been... playful ).
  5. As long as we keep in mind that we should be willing to sacrify any feature that draws significant resources from story features or gameplay design...
  6. So sadly true... If you pick up an armor designed for a woman (in the most chainmail bikini stereotype), it should remain the same when being weared by a man. And the other way around too.
  7. Do you know about the Book of Erotic Fantasy? It's a D&D book about sexual magic. Yep. I can seem many facepalming and such but let me remind all of you that if magic was real (in Forgotten Realms they consider it quite real, by the way), they would actually invent those kind of spells. Because it's only natural. So yeah, no need of polymorph or shapechange to give your fighter a good "weapon". If you know what I mean. But why isn't that kind of magic presented in the regular RPG setting? Because it's not the focus of those kind of games. You are to play some kind of stereotypical adventurer having the stereotypical adventures, not delving into those pervert magical users at the Temple of Afrodita(or Sune or...) and how they can make you climax just by casting a spell (or protecting your girlfriend from being able to get pregnant if you run out of mundane protection). Altough nothing prevents the DMs and players from playing whatever they want in whatever way they want... I'd not mind a transgendered character (NPC, companion or PC). But as many other stuff, it would need to make sense to include it. And certainly not adding it "just because". It could also be said something about how adding a transgendered character could deviate the focus unnecesarily (unless it has some important part in the game?). Somehow I find easier to allow people to wear clothes of the opposite sex... beyond disguise purposes.
  8. But we all have personal opinions about this. Obsidian is creating the world for PE so as much as they can share their vision and gather some feedback, it's about what they understand that their fantasy world is and not our personal point of view about what a fantasy world is. Fantasy is something that isn't real. A world exactly like ours but with elves in addition to humans would be fantasy. A world exactly like ours but with simians(apes?) instead of humans would be fantasy. Star Wars is fantasy (space opera subtype). And altough I can agree that just because magic can do powerful stuff, I don't think that any kind of mundane technology can be added, I don't agree about comparing high-(scifi)tech stuff to magic in a non sci-fi fantasy setting. Even a musket isn't by far near the level of an energy shield. No way. Altough it's my belief that magic is actually too powerful and easy in many settings of medieval nature... Let's also keep in mind that there is much that we don't know about the world. We don't know how it has evolved (let's forget creationism for a moment here). Magic works much like technology. It may use "different rules" but at the end of the day it is almost the same. Both magic and technology would answer to the needs of the individuals/societies and develop/evolve based on those needs. A society with no access to magic would depend on mundane breakthroughs to develop itself while a society with heavy access to magic may never need to develop any mundane breakthrough as they develop their equivalent magical breakthroughs. And my example susposes a magic system similar to D&D . We don't really know what the PE magic system can actually achieve. It may be able to do similar stuff or it may be "weaker" in its options. And I'm avoiding considerations of arcane vs divine vs psionic magic. Er... imho
  9. Drunken projection? No way we reach that. That said, I'll gladly eat my words if that happens. :D But no, around 3M most likely.
  10. Real pirates? Could make sense if the adventure crosses seas/oceans (lake pirates?). And if piracy makes any sense in that area. http://www.cracked.c...-to-movies.html
  11. The supply of stupid arguments like this seems endless. Do you play cRPGs to compensate for your lack of killings in real life? Or the lack of looting the houses of strangers? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role The rest are classes, levels, loot tables and such, that are designed to enhance the experience and give more detail the same you would use props as kid when you played cowboys or whatever.
  12. I'd prefer draconians to dragons. Quite different type of being, I know, but I would find them more refreshing/interesting. And can even be NPCs. But if you really need big beast, give me the PE equivalent of the Tarrasque. I'd not cry if you have dragons in the world and in the whole game you only get to meet one and not for combat reasons but to solve his riddles in exchange of some mumbo jumbo needed for your personal quest.
  13. -Does the quality of the soul depend on the midi-chlorian count? I apologize for the very bad joke. Waiting eagerly for that update about the souls.
  14. —an enraged localized version gamer Well, if I ever create an international hit video game, english is not on the list. So you lucky that that won't be happening.
  15. If we were the publishers, we would take care of al the QA and its expenses, and of promoting the game and all its expenses. Also of dealing with the digital platforms, funding patches for bug fixes and such. We are just donating money fora project in which we believe. And in exchange we get some cool stuff.
  16. Magic makes armors obsolete. The lack of realism in the fantasy settings is the only thing that has allowed mundane amors to coexist with magic. Usually they just add magic stuff to the standard medieval setting, *something*, profit!!
  17. The publishers, aside from insulting the intelligence and honor of Obsidian, really think that if they pull that off, there won't be any backlash against them. It would be nice if from time to time, those big publishers were to open to think about something more that making profit while stepping over other people.
  18. Unfortunately for you, no need to give beta to everyone as "idiots" only need to pledge for the collector's edition. We can always hide under a rock until the game is released. XD
  19. Guns <> Steampunk How many times must that be repeated? So... no Tolkien races because they are overused? What about using always the same types of weapons in the games like longswords, daggers or shotbows? What about always having to play in the surface instead of focusing in the underground? Why (almost) always mammals? Why (almost?) always carbon-based lifeforms?
  20. Testing depends on the publisher. In this case no publisher so Obsidian can delay the game as much as they need and control better the quality of the released game. I'd say that there is a good chance of this game being more solid than the usual Obisdian release. Beta is a nice thing to increase pledge values. Giving it away easily doesn't seem a good idea to me. It's more of a perk for those who want more than to get the game cheap. There is also the thing that having thousands upon thousands of beta testers is not by itself better. If the feedback/bug-hunting isn't good, it doesn't matter if you have 10 beta testers or 100,000. If they keep it just for the Collectors, at this moment it would be almost 1,500 beta testers (plus Obsidian's). All of this, imho.
  21. Let's suppose that our character is not influenced by our ideas. Which are the moralities enforced in the different nations and social groups? "Good" and "Evil" are just constructs defined by each and that can change. Some may value life so much that sacrifying one to save others may be taboo. Others may be more into the good of the society over the individual, and sacrifying one individual to save many may be the "right thing to do". Or the "Survival of the fittest". An individual not limited by artificial ideas about what is right and wrong, would just value the companion's importance versus the importance of the village. And then hope that his decission is actually the most beneficial for whatever he actually hopes to achieve. On one hand, it's nice to die for what you believe in even if that dooms the universe. On the other hand, dooming the universe (and everyone in it) for sticking to your values... well, kind of sucks. Except that maybe for your moral values you are being a hero.
  22. I prefer 3). Depending on how the game is done, the impact of possible housing and other details, being able to have the unused companions to do stuff that gives them some XP could be nice. Be it crafting, missions a la SWTOR or just paying them some training, those would be nice ways of having them to keep it up a bit. But having unused characters to be at the same level of used ones (or a minimum of X levels) just because is not what I would want. I know that there aren't that many companions but I want party composition decissions to matter.
