Bestiality has been part of human history for a long time now. And "Good" and "Evil" are social constructs like many other stuff. I could justify anything in a game if I wanted but that's not the point. I want the authors to be free to develop the story as they want (or think it's best) and not dictated by outside people. I'm not saying that they shouldn't listen to the feedback but that they should remain in control. The presence or absence of gay characters is irrelevant to me. For all I care, 100% of the characters could be gay. As long as it makes sense for the story and it's well done, I'll accept what the authors give me. That doesn't mean I cannot be more or less fan of some stuff but that when they are working on the details, they aren't forced to add the "token black man" or similar stuff. Give authors suggestions? Totally cool. Turn those suggestions into (velated) demands? Not cool. Not cool at all. And yeah, that applies to my "suggestions" too.

If this game has magitek (as rare and limited as it could be), I'll be pleasantly surprised. And overjoyed if my character can play with any of its toys (after some hard work and ass kicking). But I do get the feeling that some people may hate the idea of magitek so I'll just cuddle my mundane firearm.

Ignorance is bliss. -
When Tolkien was writing the Lord of the Rings I'd repeat him constantly: "Hey, where is the token black man?" or "Why isn't there any recognized gay?" or "Why doesn't Aragorn organize a threesome with those two hot girls?". So if Obsidian had decided that mains humans in PE are black (well, not that I like the word because only drow are black) because of story reasons, apparently they should be forced to include token latino human, token asian human, token white human,... They don't want to offend any possible "race" by not including them, riiiiight? So screw story in favor of political correctness!! Should we talk about religion and how someone can feel offended by alien religious ideas proposed by the game? Sorry, for a moment I felt evil.

Why should be the tutorial dungeon a nightmare in normal difficulties? What's this? Age of Decadence where you supposedly must have a Master Degree in Age of Decadence to beat the first combat? I'm all in for good encounter design, good AI and such. But the tutorial area, specially in normal difficulty, cannot be a nightmare. That's why it's a freaking tutorial area.

Not needed. If they were to be added: no Steamworks, go and create your own system; don't do stupid achievements like "You started your first game"/"You moved your character"/"You finished the game" and stuff like that, if you are going to add them make sure that they are for important stuff. -

You are not going to get anything productive from any thread in which there are more than one opinion. Romances? Multiplayer? Firearms? Races? You name it! -
Sex and Romance Poll
Wintersong replied to Troller's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Silly? As silly as demanding not to have romances so you can have other in-game features instead? Or less silly because Mac version doesn't add to the content of the game itself and a Mac version can be considered after the release of the Windows version? Everything in the frakking game is a drain on resources. Are we ok in that? Or do we disagree? It's not about if Obsidian should do tacky romances or porn movies. It's not about if Obsidian should make romances the centre of the game. Some people don't want any kind of romances, some may want them to be the central part of the game, some want lesbian orgies and some wish that they could had romanced the mabari in DAO. But the real issue is about if in a game that is supposed to be mature, and which happens to be an RPG, romance has a place as one of the interactions (not necesarily with the companions, normal NPCs need love too ). If the devs consider that it really has place then it's a matter of treating it the same as any other in-game feature. Which means checking if in addition to having a place it's also doable. If it's doable, then to which degree and all that boring stuff that game developers have to fight against, juggling numbers and different features fighting for a limited resource pool of money (and time). Devs do make mistakes and sometimes add features that in the end aren't so good or cost too much or harm other systems. That is not always the case, obviously. But the case of this and many other threads is resumed in "I don't like it therefore don't spend a cent in it". Which is silly. Devs are the only ones who can really judge if a feature has a place or not and the associated topics to its possible development. But hey, let's go back to the interaction of characters level in Eye of the Beholder!!! Sorry if sometimes I forget that I'm naive. Obviously fireguns shouldn't even be in the game because they take resources and some people don't like them, huh? Why waste resources in male/female PC? Let's use some of those androgyn japanese characters and lets save resources for more item descriptions!!! -
Could you please give examples of "outdated" mechanics? Turning combats into Street Fighter rounds is dumbing down stuff. It may be more fun for some but certainly it's not what I want from this CRPG. (nothing wrong with Street Fighter but it's not a CRPG) Turning an old school CRPG into a new age Adventure Game with RPG Mechanics? Sure I can have fun with that but I'd prefer a CRPG that requires some more decissions that which dialog option to choose. But we are in the age of "Remove anything that stops/delays instant fun". I'm not against new mechanics that are better than the old ones. I'm totally against removing stuff on the basis of "It's old" or "Micromanagement is always unfun".

Sex and Romance Poll
Wintersong replied to Troller's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Except for limited resources. Considering that the game is not even funded yet, still 28 days, they cannot outright ban romances as a possibility. They still don't know how much money they will be able to use. Considering that romances are extra content... shouldn't we complain about getting Mac version of the game instead of extra content? Just an example, don't read too much into it. Just keep in mind that when someone doesn't want something in the game, one of the arguments is "Limited resources". First, romances should be in if they make sense for the story (and character). And only in that case. Then it'd be a matter of checking the available resources and other stuff like feature creep. I'd not say that romances are one of the most important things in the game but they are not as irrelevant as some people wants to think. Unless we are talking BioRomances lately. But I thought we were talking Obsidian. -
Please, NO GUNS!
Wintersong replied to ZeshinX's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If they remove guns, I remove my pledge. Not really, just in case the smiley wasn't clue enough. New IP. Surprise! Seriously, were is the people that complains about elves and dwarves for being overused? Shouldn't they be complaining about the overused weaponry of "traditional" fantasy settings too? -
Are we talking WoW or PE? Because I have no idea about WoW beyond "Cashcow". In other settings, stuff like magic can make unnecesary to adopt superior mundane technologies that other societies use and still keep that society "competitive". We must also consider if the different societies have actually met, geography between them, economic interests, third parties,... but mostly I'd say "Magic". I'd worry more about cultural invasions like that dwarven McGoland's in Echo Bay or that elven Chillax Palace in New Heomar.

Have you considered that maybe you are not supposed to burn precious resources in each fight? And that the price for wasting your resources is to wait for them to regenerate or go to the next fight in disadvantage? Personally, playing games like BG, ID or NwN, I wasn't spending all my magic spells in just one fight (unless we were talking bosses or difficult fight). I payed attention to the number of arrows and their types for my characters (Archer kit ftw!). I certainly didn't spam/abuse the sleep/rest option. And I was having fun in the process. Having hit points system already makes combat not so deadly. If you also make it so you easily start each combat totally fresh in resources... meh. Then you force each encounter to be "Hard" because you cannot challenge the player with chained encounters (not talking about those stupid waves of DA2). You limit the strategic/tactical options in dungeon design. But I suppose that resource "micromanagement" beyond potions is "unfun". -

I'd not mind the more entertaining stamina/mana bars. -
So PE should be only done in chinese which is actually the most spoken language. Then we could get the yanks (because brazilians or canadians are also "american") cry because the game isn't released in their main language. As mentioned, Obsidian publishes this. If the game is ever to be translated, the responsability falls upon them unless they reach some kind of agreement with a local distributor/publisher. There is a list of common lnaguages to which translate games and that list is good enough. It's obviously unfair for those who don't use any of those but it's not realistic to pretend to translate the game to any possible language! I demand basque translation now!!! (not really, castillian is good enough despite the fact that I'll play the game only in english) The unsupported languages? Fan translations. Which are not unheard of. The only real point about translations (just texts, not voice overs), from my point of view, is "When" not "Will there be any?". Torchlight II is released soon and isn't translated but will support other languages after release. It's not the first game that does that. It won't be the last. Some people will pledge as long as Obsidian guarantees that there will be translation for their language, even if that means having to wait sometime after relase. (and just in case it needs mentioning: and that the translations are good!) Also, mature content or not, not every potential player knows english or knows good enough english for a text heavy game like this. Giving them the chance to play the game in their own language is not a small thing in their case. Plus it's also a matter of cultural respect but for many this point is irrelevant: If you already speak the "language of the gods" (english), why bother with other languages? All this said by someone who "truly learned" english by reading D&D 3.0 books. P.D. Use FX Interactive for distribution of boxed copies in Spain: fully translated (including voice overs), manuals, extra goodies, no real DRM and all of that for just 20€ on release!!!
