Races - Don't stick to Tolkien
dlux replied to Mikey_205's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You realize that Tolkien's dwarves, in particular, were directly influenced by Norse mythology, yes? Where do you think the names from Thorin's company were derived from? Uhhhh, what are you talking about? Didn't I just write that? ^^ You said, "... dwarves from germanic/norse mythology are going to be included in the game." And then you say the developers are not going to copy Tolkien. You don't see the contradiction? Uh, no. Just because you have elves and dwarfs in a game does not automatically mean that you are using Tolkien's interpretation. You made the point to make a distinction, specifically referring to dwarves from germanic/norse mythology... which has a direct link to Tolkien's interpretation. Choose your words more carefully. What? Dwarves and elves originated from germanic/norse mythology and not from Tolkien. If I design a 10 meter tall elf with green skin that comes from the planet mars and sniffs on farts, does that make him a Tolkien elf or what just because he has pointy ears? You have no idea what you are talking about. Elves and dwarves from germanic/norse mythology are not exactly the same as in Tolkiens interpretation. There are actually many different interpretations of these mythical creatures in germanic/norse mythology itself. -

I prefer the 3rd option, but what I really don't want to have are these stupid Bethesda style maps. They take a huge area which is something like (600x600)km large, stuff it into into a game and make the map (3x3)km small. Doesn't make sense.

Will PE Be Based on AD&D Rule Set?
dlux replied to Hornet85's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
No, they are making their own system. -

I like mini games, but only if they are not pointless. I never played "Caravan" in New Vegas because you could only win cash with it (as far as I know) and I had ****loads of bottlcaps and $NCR. ^^ If they do include mini games, then I would like to be able to win something special that you can actually use to make your character or group stronger... kind of like in the Zelda games.

Races - Don't stick to Tolkien
dlux replied to Mikey_205's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am happy that elves and dwarves from germanc/norse mythology are going to be included in the game. According to Sawyer they are (of course) not going to copy Tolkien's version, they are creating their own dwarves and elves. I would also like to see some original races that I have never seen anywhere else though. -
Killing companions
dlux replied to Sarog's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If this was possible in Dragon Age then I would have probably klilled Anders and that leather loving gay elf. They were so annoying. -
Thus the *IF*. I'm also getting the impression from the one of your post that you think I'm opposed to romance options. Which is not the case. I was hoping that you would actually respond to what I wrote, but you choose to ignore it Sad. ^^ Anybody that creates such a one sided poll has to be against romances. lol
-
Your poll is absurd, because you are stating that romances can draw significant resources from other parts of the the game, which is simply not true. I can also use your "argumentation" on any feature of the game. Examples: "Are you willing to sacrifice swords as a weapons if it drew significant resources from other combat features?" (because I hate swords) "Are you willing to sacrifice some spells if it drew significant resources from other combat features?" (because I hate magic) "Are you willing to sacrifice some trees if it drew significant resources from other scenic features?" (because I hate trees) "Are you willing to sacrifice a companion if it drew significant resources from other game features?" (because I hate companions) Note: None of these features alone are necessary to make a good game - but it probably makes it better. Aynway, romances are a feature that many people enjoy according to this poll here. If Obsidian does include them or not is up to them, and not you or me.
-
This stupid poll is so one sided and biased. How about these here: "Are you willing to sacrifice swords as a weapons if it drew significant resources from other combat features?", because I hate swords. "Are you willing to sacrifice some spells if it drew significant resources from other combat features?", because I hate magic. "Are you willing to sacrifice NPC animations if it drew significant resources from PC animation?", because I hate animations. I could go on forever. lol How much of the resources for BG2 were spent on writing the romances anyway? Probably not even near 0,1%.

When I read all this posts, like this one, over here I get the feeling, that not many have read the original post: I simply can not see, where such an option would mean an incredible increase of workload for the developers. I don't think you read my post actually. I wrote: It is just not possible to include every single known fetish or gender-based alternative concept, without spending enourmous amounts of resources. There are other fetishes too. Do you think only your fetish or gender-based alternative concept should be in the game because it is special and the others are not? If you include one, then you have to include them all - that is why Obsidian should only include sexual orientations (straight/gay/bi) and nothing else, imo.
-
I think straight/gay options are enough. The game really only has to cover sexual orientations and not every single known fetish or gender-based alternative concept - it is just not possible without spending enourmous amounts of resources. But that does not mean that it won't be in the game at some point or another. The modding community is rather passionate and maybe they will add such a feature to the game after it is released (if there is mod support at least). Maybe there is even a transgender mod for Skyrim, I am not sure - but if there is, then you can be pretty sure that there will be one for this game also.

Level scaling
dlux replied to buggeer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The Baldur's Gate games are not level scaled. In certain areas a few more enemies might be added or replaced when you reach a higher level. Like a lich is added to a group of skeltons or something. That is not level scaling. Scaling encounters by adding more creatures or changing the spawns based on your party level isn't level scaling? Your character is level 1, then all of the enemies are level 1. If your character is level 50, then all of the enemies are level 50. That is level scaling. In BG a Level 10 lich is always a level 10 lich, no matter what level you are. I certainly hope so. Not because I don't really like their games (after playing Skyrim I have decided to never buy another Beths developed game), it's because they screwed Obsidian over.- 168 replies

I can go either way, the only thing that really matters to me is if the game is balanced. I would of course prefer a system different from the one used in D&D. It worked fine, it was just tedious to manage sometimes.

Haha, too late. -
Beta access should stay at $140+. Whoever contributes this much money to the project should be rewarded for doing so. You should be thanking the people who contribute so much money to this awesome project, because WE ALL profit from it. Sadly some people are just so selfish and resort to whining instead...
