  1. Hmmm...Price's PER and WS are impressive and am a little stunned at how favorable they are when compared to Isiaiah and Hardaway. Still...he doesn't pass the eyeball or contemporary testomonial test. I'll concede that he could be better than Isaiah -never really liked the guy but Hardaway is a different animal. Pound for pound he was the toughest dude on the court. No one was quicker or could breakdown a man with a crossover like Hardaway. He was also a great teammate and was very coachable. He was like Westbrook without the baggage. Best streetballer to play in the NBA - his trash talk is legendary. Hardaway destroyed players like Price on a regular basis. Plus the Run TMC Warriors were the funnest team to watch...EVER.
  2. Hahaha!! I Remember that cartoon! Gretzky was always hungry and eating something! There were some great international players during that era as well. Drazen Petrovic Arvidas Sabonis Oscar Schmidt Sarunus Marciulionis Toni Kucoc Dino Radja Vlade Divac Detlef Schrempf Rik Smits And above all else, Manute Bol
  3. Anytime the Royals are involved in a trade, they always come out behind. It's a rule. It's been stipulated since the '94 collective bargaining agreement. It is known.
  4. Mark Price was a pretty good player and one of the all time great shooters. Unfortunately for him, he played in an era where there were just so many more point guards more talented than him. Magic Johnson John Stockton Isaiah Thomas Tim Hardaway Gary Payton Kevin Johnson Jason Kidd I'll give him the nod over Mark Jackson and Muggsy Bogues. And Steve Nash hadn't really established himself until Price was out oef the league. It's kinda funny that people compare Stephen Curry to Steve Nash. It's a pretty good comparison but I think it's more apt to call Curry the rich man's Mark Price. The Late 80's Early 90's Cavalier teams were pretty good. Price actually had pretty good low post talent to work with actually. Larry Nance, Brad Daugherty, and John "Hot Rod" Williams. Plus complement that with deadeye shooters like Price, Steve Kerr, Craig Ehlo, and Danny Ferry, and they had a very solid inside out game. Too bad they ran against the Celtics, Pistons, and the Bulls.
  5. You're right about Elgin Baylor. Forgot about him. At least no one here has been mentioning Kobe as a player in the same level as LBJ and MJ. PS Don Nelson is my Joe Shlabotnik.
  6. I can see where you are going. Russell was a beast defensively and on the boards. But his career FG% was .440 (for a center!) and he averaged in the mid teens ins PPG. Let's say he is reincarnated and playing modern era. He's 6'9" and I can't see him stopping Someone like Shaq in the paint. Ewing will draw him outside of the paint and hit all sorts of mid range J's and turnaround J's and fadeaways. Good luck guarding the Dream Shake. Robinson has Russell's defensive abilities and an offensive repertoire. Wilt for all his flaws and extracurricular activities couldn't beat the Celtics not because Russell was better, but because he didn't have Cousy, Havlicek, Heinsohn, Nellie (my all time favorite coach btw), and especially Red Auerbach in his corner. He had no one else on the Warriors and with the Lakers, he had only Jerry West.
  7. I've always wanted to get into CK2. Like others I bought this and Rome on Steam a while ago but couldn't get into it because It's pretty daunting to start and the learning curve appears to be too steep.
  8. Really like that Saracen armor and helm. Any of the cultures in PE that would be contiguous with that style though? I've probably stated this before, but I'm a sucker for Outremer and Reconquista imagery.
  9. Championships help, and generally speaking the better player you are, the the better your team will be. Among the major north american team sports; individual players have more of an impact on a team's performance in basketball than in any other sport. That's what separates true superstars from lesser star players. Other All time greats such as Barkley, Stockton/Malone never won championships unfortunately had to go through Bird, Magic, and Jordan in their eras. But that doesn't take away from their credentials as hHall of Famers. That being said, Bill Russel as great as he was, he's overrated precisely because of his 11 Championships. I'd take Abdul-Jabbar or Chamberlain over him any day of the week. And Robinson, and Olajuwon, and Ewing, and Shaq.
  10. For those who appreciate Advanced Statistics. 2012-2013 Season: PER (player efficiency rating): 1) LBJ 31.6 2) KD 28.3 Win Shares: 1) LBJ 19.3 2) KD 18.9 3) Chris Paul 13.9 WS/48min: 1) LBJ .322 2) KD .291 3) CP .287 Career/All Time PER 1) Michael Jordan 27.9 per season 2) LBJ 27.65 3) Shaq 26.45 WS/48 min 1) MJ .2505 4) CP .2439 6) LBJ .2412 ...... Lebron is getting there, but MJ is still the one to catch. Source: basketball-reference.com
  11. OT: Merlkir, I see you're involved with the Glorantha kickstarter and did some artwork for King of Dragon Pass. Impressive stuff!
  12. What's interesting about Lebron is that the conventional widom was that his versatility is his biggest strength. He is a walking Don Nelson mismatch wet dream. For years, he'd do his best Magic impersonation and initiate with the ball in his hands. Of course if there was a weakness to his game, and it is a nitpick, it would be his outside shooting (which is actually pretty decent). What was interesting was that in the last two seasons, and especially this year, the Heat actually stopped having Lebron initiate the offense as one of their primary ball handlers and operated their sets with Lebron getting the ball on the post and have home either attack, go back door to a weak side cutter, or draw and kick for open corner threes. Rather than taking advantage of his wide skillet and freak athleticsm, the Heat would double down on his ability to play the post in small ball sets and play him like Charles Barkley. And it is working beautifully.
  13. I am especially intrigued by the wardrobe from Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven. Plenty of surcoats, robes, and cloaks worn over mail and varying styles of half helms, hats, and other headwear. Especially the Hospitallers. Granted Renaissance era armor and 12 century levant fashion are presumably different, but the looks are striking. So how about it Obsidian? Robes and surcoats for all?
  14. All class mechanics discussion aside, I just want my Paladin to look like and be inspired by David Thewlis' Hospitaller from Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut of course). And I don't particularly care for paladins to begin with. That being said, I am agreeable to Josh's take.
  15. As a patriotic, liberal leaning, tea guzzling, immigrant Amerikaan ethnic minority; who in a prior life was a Crown Loyalist, I agree.
  16. Here's the thing...I like to read Quarter to Three. It's not really a video game review site, but it's populated by some of the best freelance reviewers in the industry. They give their opinions on games, yet aren't technically paid or "professional" reviews. Or AICN for movies and tv. They aren't professional critics in the classical sense but I'd value their acumen on superhero movies more than EW or even the NY Times. And this is from someone who has a an elitist view mirroring Aaron Sorkin when it comes to the news media vs blogs.
  17. I see MJ and Lebron as very similar. Both are ultra competitive and are the most dominant players of their respective era. But I'd say MJ was the more dominant player. As great Larry and Magic were, MJ was just flat out better. MJ was the best offensive player of his era. He was also among the best wing defenders as well. I'm not convinced that the same thing can be said about Lebron at this point. He is clearly better than Kobe. But I'd say Kevin Durant is a more dangerous offensive player. KD has more weapons in his disposal than Lebron. As far as all time greats in the current era, the only thing with certainty I can say is that Stephen Curry is the best perimeter shooter who's ever played the game. Not Reggie, not Larry, not Mullin, Price, Nash, Hodges, Kerr, and certainly not Jesus Shuttlesworth.
  18. Before this season, there would be no way I'd consider Lebron better than MJ. Then something happened. He got with Spoelstra and had a pow wow to discuss how they could be more efficient as a team. Lebron pointed to himself and told Spoelstra to park him at the post and play less hero ball. He completely remade his offensive game after all the success he's experienced. He stopped taking midrange jumpers and from behind the arc, only shoots open threes and from the corner. His already already efficient 53% FG% spiked to an absurd 56% and 3pt% spiked from 36% to 40%. He is still 28 and in the middle of his prime and when you consider that he took great pains to analyze his game and essentially turned himself from a perimeter point forward to a point center in a dedicated small ball lineup, it's scary as to how his game will further evolve. Jordan is still the better player at this stage of his career, but it wouldn't be inconceivable to say that Lebron could surpass him.
  19. Manny is done. Stick a fork in him. At this point, he's well below replacement level as a ballplayer.
  20. I'm a Warriors fan and I was rooting for the Spurs, but damn. Lebron is a beast. I can understand the hate people have for the guy and the Heat, but he's a class act and a once in a generation talent.
  21. I'd hit that.
  22. It actually works really well. I wouldn't mind seeing an iOS iPad port for KotOR II as well.
  23. The video was exceptionally done. More importantly, I'm liking the concept. I'm down for a medieval fantasy X-Com. In for $20.
  24. Much like how I prefer the heavy, solid, and tactile feedback of a Model M keyboard, I prefer the IE style UI.
