I'd be impressed if he showed you his wife's panties. Lol. (2010 Giants lore)
-
Nah. They have decent pitching and three former or present CY young types. I'm dismissive of their hitting.

Some pretty good drama went down today. Dwight Howard to Houston and Andre Iguodala to Golden State. Major power shake ups in the West.

The Giants were compelling. They were literally a team of destiny. It was a fun and wild ride, especially in 2010. Only thing you could do is down a few shots and enjoy these two teams for what they were: Lucky underdog basterds that fans will talk about as some of the flukiest non back to back champions of all time.
-
In 2012 the Cards were second in the NL in runs scored. This year they lead the NL in runs. Your point?
-
Yeah. Good for the Giants. That still doesn't take away that they got lucky. They won more than their share of the coin flips.
-
Did you watch the 2012 playoffs? I watched every pitch, and there was no staff better than the Giants. They embarrassed the Triple Crown winner at the plate. When it comes to baseball I trust the numbers more than the eyeball test. And yes. I watched. The Giants were lucky.

That adage about pitching wins in the playoffs has been debunked so many times by Bill James it's a broken record. This isn't the 1990's anymore. It's about scoring more runs than the other team. That doesn't mean go for all power and no pitching and defense. It means having a lineup and pitching staff that will allow your team to score more runs than the other team.
-
No they don't. In 2012, the Giants only had the 5th best pitching staff in the NL by ERA. When you factor in park affects and other factors, Giants pitching staff ranked 20th in the Majors. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2012.shtml

Lack of slugging is not sustainable for a winning team. They won a lot of close games and relied on dramatics in the postseason. I enjoyed the ride for what it was, but they ain't the Miami Heat.

As a former die-hard Giants fan, the Giants were lucky in '10 and luckier in '12. They were really are not that good those years.

Rice Jr. isn't the knockdown shooter Glen Sr. is and Hardaway Jr. isn't the street-tough little super quick firebug Tim Sr. Is. Gods. And I'm not even that old...

That was a crazy draft. And we may see two Canadians going number one in consecutive years.

Good story about Mullin and Bird. They had a shooting contest after practice one day during the '92 Dream Team run. Both guys were just on fire. No one missed. It was EPIC. Bird barely beat out Mullin. Mullin wanted a rematch. Bird refused, and still refuses to go against Mullin to this day. He does not want to lose.. Haha!

Re: Mullin His Alciholism was well documented. Early in his career he was overweight, moody, and constantly late and or missed practices. Once Don Nelson became coach he looked into Mullin's situation. He didn't like what he saw - seeing it was more awrious than anticipated and staged an intervention with family and friends. It was dramatic and it worked. Mullin was granted a leave of absence and went to rehab. He cleaned himself and dedicated himself to professionalism. He still has the same crew cut as he did when he got out of rehab. His career flourished and he became the hall of gamer he is today. Re: Kobe Great player. And very smart. Just no Lebron.

Hmmm...Price's PER and WS are impressive and am a little stunned at how favorable they are when compared to Isiaiah and Hardaway. Still...he doesn't pass the eyeball or contemporary testomonial test. I'll concede that he could be better than Isaiah -never really liked the guy but Hardaway is a different animal. Pound for pound he was the toughest dude on the court. No one was quicker or could breakdown a man with a crossover like Hardaway. He was also a great teammate and was very coachable. He was like Westbrook without the baggage. Best streetballer to play in the NBA - his trash talk is legendary. Hardaway destroyed players like Price on a regular basis. Plus the Run TMC Warriors were the funnest team to watch...EVER.

Anytime the Royals are involved in a trade, they always come out behind. It's a rule. It's been stipulated since the '94 collective bargaining agreement. It is known.

Mark Price was a pretty good player and one of the all time great shooters. Unfortunately for him, he played in an era where there were just so many more point guards more talented than him. Magic Johnson John Stockton Isaiah Thomas Tim Hardaway Gary Payton Kevin Johnson Jason Kidd I'll give him the nod over Mark Jackson and Muggsy Bogues. And Steve Nash hadn't really established himself until Price was out oef the league. It's kinda funny that people compare Stephen Curry to Steve Nash. It's a pretty good comparison but I think it's more apt to call Curry the rich man's Mark Price. The Late 80's Early 90's Cavalier teams were pretty good. Price actually had pretty good low post talent to work with actually. Larry Nance, Brad Daugherty, and John "Hot Rod" Williams. Plus complement that with deadeye shooters like Price, Steve Kerr, Craig Ehlo, and Danny Ferry, and they had a very solid inside out game. Too bad they ran against the Celtics, Pistons, and the Bulls.

You're right about Elgin Baylor. Forgot about him. At least no one here has been mentioning Kobe as a player in the same level as LBJ and MJ. PS Don Nelson is my Joe Shlabotnik.

I can see where you are going. Russell was a beast defensively and on the boards. But his career FG% was .440 (for a center!) and he averaged in the mid teens ins PPG. Let's say he is reincarnated and playing modern era. He's 6'9" and I can't see him stopping Someone like Shaq in the paint. Ewing will draw him outside of the paint and hit all sorts of mid range J's and turnaround J's and fadeaways. Good luck guarding the Dream Shake. Robinson has Russell's defensive abilities and an offensive repertoire. Wilt for all his flaws and extracurricular activities couldn't beat the Celtics not because Russell was better, but because he didn't have Cousy, Havlicek, Heinsohn, Nellie (my all time favorite coach btw), and especially Red Auerbach in his corner. He had no one else on the Warriors and with the Lakers, he had only Jerry West.

I've always wanted to get into CK2. Like others I bought this and Rome on Steam a while ago but couldn't get into it because It's pretty daunting to start and the learning curve appears to be too steep.

Really like that Saracen armor and helm. Any of the cultures in PE that would be contiguous with that style though? I've probably stated this before, but I'm a sucker for Outremer and Reconquista imagery.
