Cipher Powers need to be tweaked for release...
Luckmann replied to TrueMenace's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
All of the classes will probably be "adjusted" in some way by the Day 1 Patch. This is no surprise whatsoever. -
Stats have changed - according to the Steam PoE manual
Luckmann replied to Kaladin818's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Interrupt bonus is back, eh? I hope it's not as uber as it was in the beta. it is not uber at all... wasn't really functional uber in the beta either. sure, in the beta you could see frequent interrupt notifications, but it didn't genuine impact gameplay that significant. we would set the bb rogue to attacking a skaen cultist and we still couldn't stifle casting, particularly quick heals. interrupt and concentration is wonky as o' 480. the math got simple, but am thinking that too many interrupt related talents and abilities were not changed to fit the new scheme. there is a chanter chant (that sounds awful... chanter chant? ack.) that is 'sposed to inhibit concentration, but it don't seem to be working correct. am not sure what the improved interrupt talent actually modifies either as it don't improve your interrupt score. +15% interrupt chance improvement means what exact? 15% o' failed interrupts become sucessful? doesn't seem that way. interrupt were changed so that you got ~20%-25% (unmodified) chance o' interrupting a foe if your perception attribute is same as your 'foe's resolve. that were josh's intent for interrupt and it seems to be working correct. unfortunately, too many interrupt related features is still linked to the old scheme that it strikes us as a bit messy at the moment. HA! Good Fun! He is probably referring to v435, where Interrupt was broken, and triggered wildly, allowing you to easily stunlock opponents with Interrupts alone. -
Engagement Mechanics- Problems and Solutions

That's actually very true. What makes it awful by default are the actual issues created, not the dislike that stems from them. -
Damage dealing Paladin
Luckmann replied to Commitment Tissues's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Not sure. We haven't seen the changes made to Flames of Devotion and possibly the associated Talents (Remember Rakhan Field & Intense Flames). Flames of Devotion supposedly was nerfed and also turned into a Twice/Encounter Ability. Also, I'm not sure I would call it a "high damage" Paladin, but rather a "spike damage" Paladin. -
Dump stat constitution ?
Luckmann replied to endruwiggin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Actually, the higher the difficulty, the higher the incentives to min/max becomes, which basically amounts to wanting as high DPS as possible to kill as many enemies as possible in the shortest amount possible, before they violently murderrape you. So CON becomes even more of a "Tanks Only - Maybe" Attribute. This is why I want to add a flat +1 Endurance/+2 Health to Constitution in addition to the +3% Endurance/Health. It may not sound like a lot, but for Wizards (30+10/level), that ends up being over a full extra level's worth of Endurance if you pump it (20 Endurance) at level 1, while not being quite as valuable to, say, Barbarians (48+16/level). Yes, it's not enormous, but at least it'll make it a little bit better for low-health classes. -
I share you pain. I'm going to play a non-tanky Paladin, and I wanted him to be Perception/Resolve, hahaha, yeah right. I'm going to fix the Attributes via modding myself, though, provided that Obsidian actually fixes the assets issue in the first patch (... ). But damn if it's not annoying having to do so. What's the difference between "fixing" the attributes... and "cheating"? Sounds.....clever!? Cheating implies an intent to, well, cheat.

Pros & Cons - Steam vs GOG which will you pick and why?
Luckmann replied to wanderon's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Credit cards are not common in Germany? What?! Anyway - you don't need a credit card. You can pay through paypal or through paysafecard (paysafecard can be charged in a similar way to steam or google play - with cards that are bought in a store. They're available in Germany. You can find store near you here) You'd be surprised. My German GF doesn't have a credit card either, and just a few years ago when me and some friends (before I met my GF) wanted to pay in a grocery store, they didn't even take VISA/Mastercard. From the perspective of a Swede, it's absolutely absurd. No-one she knows has an internet bank. I'm like "What, come again?". Her older brother that plays MMO:s pays with paysafecards (or something to that effect; disposable "credit cards" you buy in shops). An adult person. I don't want to sound patronizing or offend anyone, I just want to convey how utterly weird that is to me. -

Luckmann replied to endruwiggin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Generally speaking, Constitution isn't very good, no, and it's likely not involved in many conversations. For scripted events, though, I can imagine that there'd be a lot. Unless tanking, yes. Barring intentionally building something odd, You build characters as tanks or not tanks. If tanks, you want Per/Res/Con, and if not tanks, Might/Int/Dex (with the latter two shuffled if you have a lot of duration & AoE abilities or not. Ignore the design goals and random opinions on the subject- attribute builds are A or B and all about dump stats. There are actually many tanking builds that lets you just not take any Constitution anyway, despite the fact that you're tanking. -

That's kinda sad, because Sensuki is probably the best one to explain to you why you're wrong. -
Engagement Mechanics- Problems and Solutions
Luckmann replied to Namutree's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
How is such vitriol helping either your plight or mood? It seems to me you're making yourself miserable over one mechanic decision and letting it ruin any possibility of satisfaction from playing. Additionally, by posting such emotional reactions you move to effect others, either souring their moods or forcing them to shrink away from you and your cause. "broken piece of trash" - This won't help your cause, the developers, your influence, the reader nor anyone else. Get a hold of yourself man! You must've missed all the countless threads where this was reasonably discussed. I was commenting specifically on the video and how it actually made me want to like the Engagement system again, on an emotional level, despite me knowing on that it's a broken piece of trash as a reasoning individual. One of those fun dualities of man. I thought that was clear, but apparently not. Nor will this make me miserable "over one mechanic decision and letting it ruin any possibility of satisfaction from playing". I'm not even sure where you got that from. Engagement being a broken piece of trash doesn't do that, nor does acknowledging that Engagement is a broken piece of trash. My statement was one of tiredness and melancholy, not of world-ending sorrow and wailing. -
How excited ?

Does race and gender matter?
Luckmann replied to Zwiebelchen's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The background of the Legion is actually really well done, but it ultimately doesn't come across at all, and they are largely presented as rapacious raiders with few redeeming qualities. Caesar as a character is well done, I think, but it's a damn shame there weren't more to actually more substance to the Legion. Could've used a lot more Evola. I'm not disagreeing with the interpretation, but it's a hell of an extrapolation based on available evidence, and the sad thing is that I would want to see this substantiated more in the actual game, but it's simply left largely hanging, and we are by and large left with the worst examples of the legion (burning towns, kneecappin' lowlifes, etc). -

Really? I did not know that. That's pretty boss. And they got to black widow Benny which is like the best part of the game. That I actually knew, I just didn't think of it. I actually played through much of FONV with Black Widow. -

Because "races" is a fantasy staple whether they're actually species or not, and if they used "race" instead of "sub-race" for the actual races in the world, they'd be accused of racism by clueless vagrants. And there's no halfbreeds because that's stupid and leads to increasingly unique snowflakes. And also because Sawyer hates them. Rightly.

There is a storm coming
Luckmann replied to Endrosz's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Only 10 hours left until everyone can jump the gun and declare the game the spawn of Satan or the saviour of creation before playing the game. -
Hey, I saw people say that about Dragon Age: Origins bonuses as well, because "You find better in the first part of the game". Yeah, but you don't get a mountain of it; I was still using some of that stuff on *someone* in the group by the endgame, like rings or amulets that there simply weren't that many good ones of. But yeah, it's been stated, and I trust Obsidian on that, but to the crotchety completionists like myself, balance is secondary to miiiineeeeeeeeee. I remember the Mass Effect cross over armor which was just insanely good. They had to nerf it eventually people bitched so much. Granted it was a single player game and I seen no need for the nerf. Let them ruin their enjoyment of the game. EA is just insane with that stuff. The worst part is that there's often no realistic way to actually "catch them all" and it actively puts me off actually getting the game, especially if I can't even pirate that supposedly "inconsequential" content in. Gearbox Software is also pretty crazy with the exclusives, mostly skins though, which is frustrating, but at least you can get around (most of?) that (at least in Borderlands 2). I dislike the thing with the Kickstarter Exclusives and the Pre-Order Exclusives, but at least Obsidian have kept it reasonable and not handed out promotional DLC left, right and centre at every possible event that people cannot possibly frequent unless they're a bazillionaire jetsetter, and different bonuses at four different retailers, and in-game loot rewards for three different editions. As far as I'm aware, it's just the Kickstarter stuff (which is unknown) and the Pre-Order stuff (which is universal). Annoying, but not insane.

WTB Rogue suggestions/advice
Luckmann replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It would be funny if virtually *all* dialogue options had requirements to some degree, so that you'd actually lose options if you had really low stats, and always could be considered "qualifying" as you increase them. To the best of my knowledge, aside from the retard-speak granted by low intelligence in some games, no game has actually done this. -
The only one of those that are odd is really the month of May, and that's only if you know that there's no May, which is a fair point for those that are really into the Forgotten Realms. Atheists exists in Forgotten Realms, and even if most people don't understand gravity, there's no reason they wouldn't know about it, it's Faerun, not the mud-covered dark ages of Europe. Dentists and cavities has existed in our own world since forever, although under different names, and it's varied between rock-to-face and what we have now.
