A sentient elk or moose. We would upgrade it's weapons by changing it's horns, similar to how you changed the teeth of Morte in Planescape: Torment. You would equip it by tattooing it with permanent tattoos on the skin and paint it's fur. Possible "jewellery" includes a nose ring, exclusive dental braces, and "elkshoes" for the cloven hoofs. Class-wise, it would be akin to a Paladin/Ranger multiclass. I know it is a bit off-topic, but damn, we definitely need a Knight-class, with a wide range of different orders available, which could also influence where you start, or whether you're part of a certain (major or minor) faction from the beginning. Obviously, Obsidian Knight would be a Knight that is part of the Obsidian Order.

Is that why we keep having romance threads? It's the French. We apologize. In a Volvo, actually, thank you very much. =3= -
I DO want to play inventory Tetris
Luckmann replied to salty's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sign me up for Inventory Tetris. System Shock 2. Deus Ex. Arcanum. Neverwinter Nights. There is no shortage of amazing games with inventory tetris. Unified party inventories or list-based inventories are the devil's work. -

I think it is a bit early to start talking about sequels. -

Now, now, calm down. We are highly industrialized and top world exporter behind China - We are not picking bananas for cash just yet. ^^ It was not a comment on industrial or economic prowess, but one of politics, do not misunderstand. :D Has that actually been confirmed anywhere? I would prefer it to be M or AO, simply because it allows them to take liberties and means that no matter what, they won't have to restrain themselves, and really aim for that vision of the world they want to convey - but I haven't seen anything official on it.- 117 replies

Where is everyone from
Luckmann replied to Sales101's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No, no, no. In my ideal state, Jylland, Själland, Skåneland, Svealand, Götaland, Norrland, and Norge are semi-independent states in the glorious National Republic of Scandinavia. Far from a corrupt union or federation, it would be nothing less than a full national merger; 7 Countries, 1 Nation. Recognized dialects by municipality, which of course would also necessitate the acknowledgement of Scanian as a dialect of the Scandinavian language. :D That said, if I was forced to choose, I would definitely choose to belong to Denmark than to Sweden, entirely for socio-political reasons. I'm Swedish, but I would have better rights and protection under Danish rule than we have under Stockholmer-Swedish oppression. If that happens, Luckmann will have to learn how to count again . Worked 3 years in Denmark. I already know both how to speak, read and (mostly) count in Danish. :D That said, just don't ask me to write. -

This is actually a big problem in Germany, the largest single market for PC games in Europe. A game that includes explicit child murder *could* very, very (very) likely be banned in Germany if it is not cut out of the game. Thinking about how Germany thought about cencoring anything after WWII and more after the cold war, I am sad to see how they have become so prone to cencoring stuff again. But you know what? ****-explicit deleted (Self cencor, oh the irony) Germany, let the rest of Europe which don't have silly cencor laws have the full product. In the first fallout game, children were removed from the europan version because of Germany... Fun fact: The BRD (Bananrepublik Deutschlands) have more things banned and more organisations forbidden than both the Third Reich and the DDR - combined. Go democracy! That said, I do not think it matters. Even if they ban the sale of the product in Germany, it would be hard to prevent the sale of the product electronically through GOG or others. Refuse censoring and refuse rating. Why? This is actually a big problem in Germany, the largest single market for PC games in Europe. In the first fallout game, children were removed from the europan version because of Germany... does every game has to be rated by USK in germany? can't one have unrated games? also what happens if you buy ESRB rated games online? also germany has a good ol' game censoring tradition they even censored river raid back in the days. because apparently it caused military tendencies in german youth. loool Afaik, each game is judged independently. So it has very little to do with ratings in the end. It is naturally very hard to control the sale of online sales, of course. Which is why I suggest just giving it a huge middle finger. Let them kick and scream all they want, let them try to block off sites and retailers, it'll bleed through for whomever wants to buy it anyway.- 117 replies

Unique NPC Companions?
Luckmann replied to Geldridge's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hated it in PS:T. Hated it in Dragon Age. Hated it Mask of the Betrayer. And I still loved all of those games. They should be allowed to have unique aspects to them. Maybe a feat or ability that is signature for their persona. Hell, I'd even allow them to have all of their abilities be slightly, slightly different from whatever the PC gets. You can even feel free to give them personalized kits, such as the "Red Wizard of Thay", "Battlerager" or "Deathbringer" certain mods give to the appropriate characters in Baldur's Gate II (Edwin, Korgan and Sarevok, respectively). But these things should be minor. Absolutely no revolutionary, special-snowflake insane or "wild and crazy" lets-think-outside-the-box-lol stuff. Characters can be unique without breaking the entire ruleset. -
Where's the "I don't care" option? That said, I don't really think it makes a whole lot of sense, unless you happen to have a character that can rip off and re-apply said skin/tattoos.

DLC vs Expansion Packs
Luckmann replied to Intoxicated_Ant's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would disagree, In my view DLC are *usually* smaller content that has a single focus, for example a cosmetic pack, a single new side mission, new character, etc, On the other hand XPacks tend to expand onto the end of the game. The distribution is irrelevent. An XPack can still be downloaded. But it contains more content then a single DLC pack. I also like to think that Expansion packs should add things to the overall mechanics or setting of the main game. Like adding new classes, or a new region, etc. Tales of the Sword Coast did this well, and Throne of Bhaal did it competently. There's any number of good examples. The last thing we need is DLCs that feel "glued on" or "modlike". Which accounts for about 100% of them.- 139 replies

I hate to vote #2, because I *am* a reader. But I do not like all these ridiculous tie-ins that is going on in the industry. It makes me feel like I'm missing out if I don't read them, yet I have more important or interesting things to read. I want to play a good game. I don't want to immerse myself in a sub-culture or become a dedicated fanboy just to keep up with the setting.

A wizard did it. And the construction doesn't have to be illogical and it's existence doesn't have to be nonsensical. The fact that it could take decades to construct isn't really relevant, especially if you consider the usage of magic and the fact that it could be thousands of years old. And clearly, there should be a reason for creating it. It could be a prison for an ancient entity. A temple to an Elder God. The creation of an insane magos-Emperor. It could have been under excavation for centuries already, the upper levels teeming with life. It could be a city of the undead.
