Update #46: How (Proto-)Typical
Monte Carlo replied to The Guildmaster's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Dammit I need a RPG. I think Company of Heroes 2 and Rome TW2 will keep me going until 2014 but I am seriously pining for a decent RPG.- 98 replies

I think a brilliant way to subtly undermine democracy and usher in a bright new dawn of Communist ideological hegemony is to spam an obscure corner of the internet with childish propaganda pieces scribbled by artists with a jackboot fetish. Wish I'd thought of it first.

Loving this but is it real? http://www.sicherheitstacho.eu/

Some European countries square this circle slightly better than the UK (old-skool command economics, nationalised, you pay for it whether you use it or not via direct taxation) and the US (expensive private provision with not-very-satisfactory safety net system for the poor). In France and Spain you pay some costs. There is an element of insurance. There is also significant government investment. It's a hybrid. For example, in France you pay a small fee to see a general practitioner. In the UK you don't. So every hypochondriac can rock up to the doctor and waste his or her time for free in the UK. In France you take responsibility by paying. Furthermore, the proscription charges are very low when you go to get your meds. In the UK, proscription charges are high so you can subsidize every lazy bastard's treatment / methadone / ADHD 'issues' and so on. So although I'm not a bleeding heart statist, I'm also not a heartless Ayn Rand fanboy. I think that a healthy society is a more economically and socially effective one than one that leaves end-game cancer sufferers living under a bridge in a cardboard box. OTOH I think the feckless and idle need to get a bloody grip. That means compromises in both directions. Edit: And I find those pictures on cigarette packets achingly hip. I can't wait to see puffy, raddled livers plastered on beer labels.

FWIW GD... I'm 2.5 years into my Alienware MX15 and it's still going strong, never had a problem with it. The only issues are weight and battery life, neither of which unduly trouble me given it's sturdy build, near-silence when running and all-round awesomeness. I'm running Diablo 3 with everything ramped up to maximum and MP Company of Heroes at the moment, with no problems. Cheers MC

Sorry, had to chuckle. This is a bit point. not. found. PE is meant to be old-school, steeped in the values and feel of what went before. Most of us here think newer gaming models are a 'step backwards.' What we see with PE is a return to what's actually important - depth, tactics, gameplay, fun.

The DA:O 'Threat' / Aggro mechanics kinda sucked... and I'm not an instinctive DA:O hater and kind of enjoyed the combat.

Beating up people with reinforced combat books is deeply cool and anybody who can't see that needs their head examining.

There should be a 'Self-Sacrifice' feat where, in return for threatening heroic quantities of the enemy, you open yourself up to massive injuries and almost certain death in order to save your friends.

And, at the end of the day, this is a game where you can bash someone up with a *book*

It captures the spirit of that thing you see in movies when one of our heroes says "run away! I'll hold 'em back!" and draws his sword. So I like it.

Update #43: Pretty and Technical

The God-like is clearly an attempt at compromise. She's clearly stacked, but covered up. I say Chainmail Bikinis all round.- 114 replies

Although I love MCA as much as the next fan-boy, I don't much care for Arcanum and would like to see an actual update.

Let us corrupt our companions
Monte Carlo replied to Cultist's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I've always wanted to corrupt a vegan into wearing a meat dress a la Lady GaGa, and gorge themselves on steak. Can we have something like that please? -
That's a nice painting, but FFS the Orlan is just a small bloke with comedy ears. Am disappointed. I was hoping for a race that was less 'human-with-slightly-exaggerated-ears.'

It's based on IE games. They said so on Day One. I doubt there will be clowns with deadly fruit-launching abilities or psionic pastry-chefs who can bend space and pastry.
