Military forces often preened and dressed up as back in the day it equated with badassery. Military forces have only worn sludge colours for the last hundred years. I would like to make (a) Conan-like savage swathed in leathers and fur as much as (b) effete renaissance dandy with a plumed helmet and tights. Both might be fun to play and look at.

Gore
Monte Carlo replied to Hellfell's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Uber-gore, fountains of glistening viscera, the crunch of shattered bone, the wash of foamy blood hosing from severed arteries and the scarlet-grey smear of brains-on-mace. -
A fantasy helmet built for hardcore LARPers... Some pretty cool black Gothic-style plate... I MUST HAVE THIS HELM FOR MY CHARACTER (very high medieval)

I am the author of cult old-skool RPG "Fighting in Tunnels." Fighting in tunnels is the quintessence of what P:E should be about.

I am not sure if its not trolling from you but tunnels(if you mean caves and dungeons) can be in any of these enviroments I never troll. Especially about tunnels.

Update #31: Enter the Story Zone
Monte Carlo replied to Adam Brennecke's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
'Twas useful for me, this update. Mainly because it reinforces the radical difference in process between writing games and novels. And this is a false comparison that gets bandied around a lot on the forums. The relationship between writing and design is looking a bit clearer to me, so that was a useful tidbit.- 83 replies

It's actually Arnie playing Col. John Matrix in Commando. With Chris' head on. It is a clue that P:E will have a special forces revenge plot involving rocket launchers.- 83 replies

Magic and the Economy
Monte Carlo replied to Tagaziel's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Was it Eberron's D&D setting that had a sort of steam-magic (is that a genre?) take on this? Because it sucked. The 'logical' integration of magic into r/w feudal economies kind of breaks it IMO. Which is why the old "magic-is-very-rare" or "mages-are-closely-controlled-heretics" plot devices are so very effective. Because, let's face it, if mages were 5% of the population then they would very soon rule the other 95% through a combination of coercion and manipulation of the means of production. A great idea for a game (evil mageocracy) but perhaps not this one. Edit: Damn sausage-fingers. -
Some of the arguments that have developed here are some of the most egregious examples of straw-manning I've seen on the forum for some time. Yes, nerd-boner, I'm looking at you. Dream, you are suffering from acute point. not. found. The OP made the not unreasonable point that it would be interesting to see what r/w historical influences might or might not make it into P:E. We then discussed armour likes and dislikes and posted lots of cool historical and fantasy images. There was no dogma or entitlement. The style outlined in the concept art was taken into consideration. Then lots of people, who clearly got bored of contrarian posturing in other threads, piled in with the strawman that this thread was trying to dictate the entire aesthetic for armour in the game. People like -zin- (who posted the most awful single image in this thread) at least put forward a view. Why not start "I want JRPG / anime / manga" armour threads? This isn't like romances or one of the white-knight "sexism waaaaahhhh!" subjects.

^ Not as funny as your sanctimony about video games, though, to be fair. -
Look! Cosplay that doesn't suck! Great light armour realisation for a fantasy game IMO.

Blah blah blah, however you genuinely get five (well-deserved) points for using the word Portmanteaus. I will always seek to puncture the po-faced puffery of the White Knights when I see it. As much as I enjoy calling out bigots and the ignorant. -

OK, not a forum cop but could we please get back on topic, this is one of the better threads around here. Look, a smiley and everything.

Please don't use the word 'Immersion' it's forum shorthand for butt-hurt.
