WTF are sidekicks?
Boeroer replied to Yosharian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You'd have to apologize if you'd ask a question of which you knew the answer. - Is the amount finalized? Pretty much. But there will be expansions and I'm 100% sure they will come with additional companions and/or sidekicks. - Are the companions and/or sidekicks customizable? To what extend? Yes, they are customizable. You can level them up by yourself from lvl 1 on. You can choose different classes for some and multiclass several of them, but your choice of classes and their combinations is restricted (like fighter or rogue or fighter/rogue for Edér). You can not freely chose the classes or subclasses, the background or the stats. If you want a fully customizable companion you'll have to use a hireling that you can get at every merchant/tavern/inn. You can customize those like you can with your own main character. -
Priest still a ‘must add’ for Deadfire?
Boeroer replied to Frog Man's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Maybe I missed something - but is Devotions for the Faithful the only spell in the beta that gives you a party wide, direct accuracy buff (so that it stack with all those different PER buffs from inspirations)? That alone would be a reason for me to bring a priest. +20 additional accuracy for the whole party in every encounter is a huge advantage. There's a reason why Inspiring Radiance and Devotions were so powerful in PoE: they stacked with the universal acc buffs like Zealous Focus/Disciplined Barrage/Eldritch Aim and also PER buffs. -

I guess we'll have to wait which of those gets declared as "oops!". -
The Troubadour is good if you want to run two parallel chants and have no gap in between, because his linger time is always longer than those of other chanters. Or to stack more chants. So for example you can run the weakening chant AND the Mith Fyr chant without having gaps. Or you can stack two Ancient Memories which doubles the healing. This is great for several chanting setups. Brisk Recitation makes phrases 50% shorter (and since it's a modal, its drawback is that it removes linger time). This is very good if you want to build up phrases a lot faster in order to use invocations. Instead of 1 phrase every 6 seconds you get one every 3 seconds which means your invocations will come out twice as often. But you lose the ability to stack/overlap chants. So you would want to use one single, non-stacking chant like Wengrith or Her Courage or Mith Fyr and chant only that - while gaining phrases for invocations very quickly.

The problem is: Orlans can't have beards! Look at my avatar! Dammit Obsidian! -

Last time I fired up Deadfire (it was 10 seconds ago ) Wood Elves could have beards: -
Yes, I get that. But that was not was Gromnir was talking about. He adressed the priest thing. And I think he made some valid points why this is not happening. I think a fighter subclass for Edér would be no problem. Can't say why this shouldn't be a possibility as long as it doesn't interfere with the character. Edér being an Assassin or Trickster is a pretty far stretch - but Devoted, Unbroken, Black Jacket or Street Fighter - why not? Maybe there's some (yet unrevealed) lore connected to the subclasses (like: where they stem from) which lets them collide with the character of Edér. Also I didn't see any concrete statement from Josh that subclasses for companions like Edér or Aloth are generally out. I mean sure: other companions will have fixed unique subclasses because it's an integral part of their writing, like Pallegina, Xoti and others. But I didn't read anything about that Edér can't pick a fighter subclass. But maybe I missed that. Or: maybe he has an unique subclass as well - like Serafen has. I doubt it, but that would be nice.

Gromnir was arguing from the developer's perspective and made some valid points why Obsidian better not include Priest into Edér's portfolio. I also would have liked to be able to chose Fighter/Priest of Eothas for him or even Fighter/Fellow of St. Waidwen Martyr - but I understand that covering the writing for those options would be a pain in the oops.

I'm not being contradictory - I try to talk about summoned weapons in a differentiated manner. I don't say that all summoned weapons are bad (only Firebrand). I said that some of them are too good at the moment (or have gamebreaking mechanics). I even reported all of those gamebreakers in the bug report section. I also said that I understand that a weapon that lasts for 60 seconds has to be weaker than a weapon that lasts 30 seconds. Where do I argue against myself? I also didn't say that faster summoning times would fix Firebrand. I want faster summoning times for all summoned weapons because I think 6 seconds of summoning + recovery is a bad joke (for several reasons which were stated before in several other threads. Since you like to search in older threads and quote from there to embarrass people, please go ahead). Until now, I saw no convincing arguments from your side why summoning times should be that long. Most replies of you circle around us being greedy or unreasonable - despite the points we made. That has nothing to do with Firebrand specifically. I suggested to give Firebrand more base damage and/or Annihilation back in order to make it worthwhile. I also said that it doesn't have to be as strong as in PoE. For example Annihilation in Deadfire would only give +50% instead of +100% like in PoE. But at least it wouldn't be near useless (given the investment) like it currently is. Actually your observation that a pick of Firebrand is a bad choice given how circumstancial its usefulness would be is one of the things I (and several others) mentioned in the first place and why I called for an improvement of stats in this particular case - AND YES: faster summoning times in general. Like we're getting now. And now you're crestfallen because summoning times get reduced or what does this all mean? "Me and Josh, double team supreme, told you this is not right, but you unreasonable people are so pushy"?

Actually I like the idea that resolve influences your class resource (Discipline/Guile/Bond). But what happens with Focus/Wounds/Phrases/Spells? Bonus Wounds or Focus at the start of the encounter would work. But more/less spells? Too good/harsh.

You mean like in this bug report: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/95813-few-ranged-weapon-typesmodals-bugs/?fromsearch=1

Wael's spiritual weapon is actually even more OP because the lash also gets applied to the AoE - which is too good in my opinion. Priest of Wael/rogue does 50% Sneak + Arterial Strikes raw damage on movement + 50% lash in an AoE. Priest of Wael/ranger will trigger Driving Flight with all AoE rolls as well. It's just too good. I still would like shorter casting times - in exchange for a more balanced spiritual weapon and a reasonable Blast effect.
-
I also said in that thread that I would like a faster cast in exchange for a less powerful Spiritual Weapon. I also read that people thought that Spirit Lance's and Minor Blights' AoE-appliance of afflictions, the crit-cascading with Swift Flurry and/or kill-cascading Cleaving Stance are game breaking. It was also said that Minor Blights + dagger giving you dual wielding speed is too good. Can't see abandonment of reason there. In fact the people voting for faster summoning time made some good points. But of course everybody who doesn't agree that Firebrand is an awesome pick because it gives you an additional damage type after 6 seconds of summoning - should you ever need it - is just abandoning reason.

Hm... I ate cat and dog durig my time in central asia where that's no taboo (there's a lot of Korean restaurants). Both tasted ok (dog better than cat), but nothing to write home about. Horse sausages on the other hand were really tasty.

Movement speed and action speed
Boeroer replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Nope. Only action time and recovery time. And reload time if I'm not mistaken. Didn't try a lot of gunner builds to be honest... -
Josh's new suggestion for Resolve is brilliant IMHO!
Boeroer replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Well - it was less terrible than in Daedfire Beta1. -
Movement speed and action speed
Boeroer replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yes, higher stride raises your dps. At least if you're a melee guy. Just because you spend less time running around. -
It raises deflection (like in Deadfire), will defense (like in Deadfire) and Concentration (which is not a binary thing in PoE but a sort of defense against interrupt rolls that are done with every attack roll). Since the concentration "defense" is gone in Deadfire Resolve is lacking something.
-
It also would be a lot more powerful than in PoE since multiple lashes don't have to overcome 1/4 of DR each. In Deadfire they can be seen as one huge lash. I can test if they stack this evening but I'm 99% sure that they will not. The question "why can't Mith Fyr stack while Dragon Thrashed stacks" is like asking "why can't Devotions stack while Fireballs stack?". By the way: Inspiring Radiance in PoE does stack with itself (from multiple priests).
