Wizards in the IE games contributed quite a bit to low-level fights. For example using the first-level spell Sleep, which could make groups of goblins or orcs that would otherwise mow the party to shreds with bows (or even the tough Ogre battle at the start of Icewind Dale), quite manageable. And the Magic Missile spell wasn't "pitiful" either - it did some decent guaranteed-to-hit near-instant ranged damage against low-level enemies, and was a must for interrupting enemy spellcasters. I think you mistake higher level MM with lower level MM as it scales and is pitiful at low.

Looks like it doesn't, although I haven't done extensive sampling. That's what I thought too, only tried it once though.

Look who's talking... Go troll your own thread... Well I don't cheat so I don't know what you're talking about, but don't worry, I will leave "your" thread alone, have fun with your theoretical chars created only for one encounter via console, while the rest of us play the game as intended.
-
If we assume everything else in this console created character is legit, yes, but why stop there?
-
You are a riot consoling yourself superb armor before you even drop the enchant ingredients.

Don't bother answering I just checked out your vid and you said yourself you built your char per console. You also built your char so he never could survive a whole playthrough with 3 con... For your supposed pally with 158 def 170 fort and ref you would need maxed stats for every attribute but IN. Problem is you don't get as many points unless cheating. Have you even finished one solo Potd, because I just finished my 2nd?

Wary defender is a very bad talent. Pala gets to near maxed out F+C in the beginning of Act 2 only lacking one point in one of the dispositions, being maxed in the other. Ofc you pick pally for other reasons namely free buff to accuracy and all defenses without even doing anything. (Aura and shield)

It just makes sure the dragon will land only grazes on you and lands 1/3 hits... In fact you can have close to 180defl, however the normal attacks of the dragon aren't what hurts you the most.If constantly taking 60 dmg and more counts for not hurting, sure. Try melee disengagement for fun and you might take 200 damage. Also you can't have max stats in def, fort and ref at the same time except you use the console. The fact you don't know how to do it doesn't mean you can't. And no, you don't take constantly 50dmg - it's more once in a while. But don't worry I will post a video to prove it, just like I did it for the ranger. You sir are a troll. And btw, did you even solo the whole game with your ranger or just create him via console?

A game can only be balanced and tweaked/patched for normal as the first priority. Potd cannot be taken into consideration when determining if a class is balanced and/or fun to play. I would wager less than 20% of the players of PoE will play Potd. Now more forum members might play Potd then the overall audience. But it is always about the general audience while playing normal mode. Example take Crusader Kings 2. It has been out for 3 has a dedicated fan base. And a large modding community. But when Paradox runs the numbers people actually playing mods compared to everyone else is extremely low. Same ting when they talk about the numbers playing on IronMan mode. Things like that might add more playthroughs for players but it won't make a majority of the general game audience to Play iron Man or potd or have mods. So point talking class balance you have to base it on a normal game. But the post you made before this one underlines why it's sometimes important to look at Potd. You said you never worried about fear auras, well guess what they make dragons harder to hit and PotD also increases the dragons defenses, all of a sudden the paladin doesn't look so bad.
-
Probably every class can do this, obvious advances my paladin had were Righteous Soul which makes the fear aura of the dragon redundant and Sworn Enemy that ups accuracy and damage. I still am kinda proud I didn't use petrify or paralyze, since those would have made hitting and damaging the dragon way easier and everybody and his mother already uses petrify or paralyze. ;P But yeah, abusing the bad AI this way is not much less cheap, I tried to facetank the dragon but it is totally impossible. Video is still uploading, since I have a slow connection you will only be able to see it in an hour:

With boots of speed I had the same bad luck, also very rare are gauntlets of Accuracy and broad belt of power. With my solo pala I just finished Endless Paths level 15 and I haven't got the gauntlets of Pusissant Melee nor boots of speed yet, all there is left for me to do is go to the end dungeon, lol...
