  1. @Crucis Does it really matter WHY ranged fighters are a waste? The point is they are, so why would anyone who wants a ranged char pick a fighter? If you had only one ranged char in your party, would you really take a fighter if you also could take a cipher or rogue? No, except you're trying to prove a point.
  2. This is uncalled for, and actually rather offensive. Not everyone wants to play a barbarian or a fighter or whatever melee warrior floats your boat. Some people ENJOY playing ranged combatants. Some people ENJOY playing a ranger with a bow. Calling them lazy or bad players is absolutely uncalled for!!! Guys trolling anyway, ranged is way better than melee, sure it's lazy, but that's because it's so good. @Topic Ranged fighter is a waste, since he hast all the talents to tank and is not superior to any ranged class, rogue, cipher, heck even ranger is better ranged than fighter...
  3. Yeah its not weak by any means it was strong when it still hit your group not its nearly beyond comparison for the level you get it.
  4. Just rolled my first wiz in this game and Ghost blades are pretty crazy, two shot the glanfarthan . “boss battle“ and the second shot wasn't even necessary since everybody was down to 1 end point.
  5. I don't think they will fully back out wiz changes as it would look as if they made a mistake. I bet it will be smth in between 1.04 and 1.05 in the end, or maybe they won't even touch it. Alternatively they will nerf the crap out of offensive spells turning wizard into a full gish. Looking at barbs after OSA fix they could actually use a small buff (they were pretty hard to estimate previously). And yeah. let's buff priest some more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3ENTVKRuqg&feature=youtu.be For all I care, I'll be playing smth else by 1.06 probably, but i don't want to see the game butchered completely if I come back for an expansion. They won't touch wiz to make it like D+D. Barb is ok in my book, I never touched him pre 1.05. but he was fun post 1.05.
  6. Min maxing isn't as good as many people make it sound like, since stats don't in/decrease your accuracy stats are not that important in PoE(at least in PotD) since you will benefit from not dumping stats on almost EVERY build. As to the rogue: it is NOT more dangerous melee than ranged, in fact optimized it will ALWAYS open combat with ranged for huge single target damage. The biggest benefit of the melee rogue is constant flanking and more dps (slightly), but you have to babysit the melee rogue way more. I would certainly not go below 7 RES, PER and CON, for CON possibly even higher. Give your rogue good armor, to be sure to take a hit. Definitely max MIG and DEX if you don't have a cipher also max INT for longer debuff duration, if you have a cipher for endless debuffs INT is less important, and can go down to 7 to, for higher def stats.
  7. Lol indeed as if it wasn't awesome enough before. Could it be they stealthnerfed the accuracy on many cipher powers in 1.05? I see so many +5s and I'm pretty sure it was mostly +10 before...
  8. Yeah just tested it myself. Here goes your best lowlevel spell, spam it without consequences and watch enemies melt.
  9. HIPS was also present in BG and super overposered in BG1 and SoA it sucks in ToB though. Backstab also works with ranged and would be op if it worked with sneak. You couldn't even compare the carnage a thief would do to BG backstab.
  10. I tested it plenty before 1.05 patch. Mybe there was a stealth change which would make the spell extremely good imo.
  11. I have tested Ectophysic Echo over and over and it seems that the power doesn't affect my allies. What am I doing wrong? Get your allies where the real damage is between your cipher and the ally you cast the spell on.
  12. Not everybody is asking for nerfs here, just discovering which other races than the obvious moon godlike are worth playing.
  13. Of course. Honestly it looks like old school D&D (advanced era, not current, the 1990s heyday stuff) changed just enough to avoid paying any royalties or being accused of infringement. But the ranger is one of the major differences... its not a fighter derived class (D&D ranger had strong health and melee skills) and gets no spells (not that ranger spells ever mattered.... hey I have 179 hit points at level 10 and can now cast cure light wounds once to heal 5 of them..?!). its obvious as well that chanters are a bard-like concept, that ciphers are the psionic (and kinda similar to the NWN warlock), and that xarips are kobolds with a twist, and the list goes on and on... But there are so many major differences too -- no dual classing, combat mechanics (the chance to hit things and crit things are both nuts compared to D&D which was often a long battle of miss, miss miss..) the idea of health that can't be healed by healers... might on spellcasters.... its different enough that my first 2 characters had to be deleted they were so bad due to the differences. Well there is also ranger cleric dual class in BG, they get the most spells of any class ingame and can destroy demiliches by just looking at them if the cleric part got to level 32. ;p
  14. Echo also ghas friendly fire. But you target an ally (who doesn't get damaged) instead of a foe. Phantom Foes has different attacks and the enemies can roll a save vs each one. Recall Agony works as damage over time, yes but your target has to have taken damage for it to apply. Yes Soul Ignition sadly doesn't do raw damage so DR applies.
  15. If you want interesting on the same level as wizard I'd go priest or druid, if you want to worry about resting a bit less I would go cipher. If you want no caster I would go monk.
  16. 156 Deflection against phantoms in Caed Nua with level 5 using only wizards double potion. Only defensive talent picked is sword and shield, no cautious attack or superior def.
  17. I've tried Coastal Aumaua now and it's quite decent for tanks, especially PC Palas with high saves. It's pretty cool against Phantoms, since the 20 stun save get applied to your deflection AND fort def, so the phantom has to hit twice against very high saves to stun you. Against dragons its very good as well ofc.
  18. High Might, , Int, Res and Per, dumped CoN and Dex, or you go a few points lower in Per and put that into Dex.
  19. The aura gives you +1 base accuracy over fighter, so yeah it's pretty good. I can't really agree with dumping PER btw., but that's just me seeing the potential to tank everything ingame solo with the pally. ;P I know you wanna build him as offtank, but since pally is no monk who actually benefits from getting hit, I personally would still max his defensive stats. ;P Real good pure def stats would be wild orlan 17 MIG/15 CON/4 DEX/20 PER/3 IN/18 RES, if you wanted more IN you still could lower CON.
  20. But with 2 casts per rest, what does it matter? Don't forget we're talking level 1 here
