Make a separate save, skim through the intro and rush to Port Maje. Hard save. Then turn on cheats, give main character a bunch of XP, then cash and hire adventurers of higher levels. A little bit of extra work, admittedly, but it doesn't take that long, and as long as you don't overwrite the base save, it's a permanent lab.

Baby on Board
Voss replied to ThatUndeadLegacy's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
But... you aren't being responsible. You're dragging it off into danger, away from home, where it will likely die. Selling it as a slave or sacrifice would also be like any other thing you could do in the game, and I can think of much worse and less appropriate 'unique' things that would be different for the sake of difference. @Fiaryn- Great, I got that. I'm asking what the appeal of the characterization of 'child thief' is and why RPing child endangerment is being portrayed as a positive. Like you're a god of war or something... -
Companions and Romance
Voss replied to InsaneCommander's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
All party members have multiple class options, friend. You don't need to not be a Priest to romance Xoti without causing optimization inconvenience, because when you recruit Xoti you can elect to have her be a Priest, a Monk, or a Priest/Monk. She has unique subclasses for both options. All companions have three class combination options that fit their given story/background/demeanor/etc. Kind of? I'm not sure Hira... I mean, Illid... no... Serafen really 'fits' barbarian into his background. He's presented as a cipher, and its his basic ability as a.... sailor of some disrepute, it is literally his job to find ships with his powers. And it doesn't sound like he's ever done anything but be a sailor. And I have no idea at all where fighter or rogue multi-class attached to Aloth. -
Baby on Board

So... What is the obsession with bad parenting and child endangerment of some kid you stole? Do you just really want a young Orlan slave for this game or what? Honestly confused- the only other inventory item I've seen people really want is Tidefall, and they're not nearly so obsessed about it. -
Other than getting a 15 or 16 year (or so) vacation every now and then, not sure why it matters. He still comes back to commit 'godly' atrocities in the name of his bizarre and baseless fear of godless atrocities, because those are magically worse. Not that it was ever established that any had really happened yet- he sort of pre-emptively pulled the war of religion card before anyone else could.

That's bad, lots of people were murdering innocents to get that baby. Just another proof that save imports never ever work 100% properly on release, there is always something wrong with them. If save game import won't work on release then perhaps manual selection of story choices will still work properly? Have save imports ever worked? After some patches, in some games... Ok let me rephrase. Have they ever actually done anything even if they weren't bugged? Just trying to temper expectations. Yes? Save imports were pretty common once upon a time. It just sets some flags to true or false, it isn't exactly hard.

Having to constantly burn resources (including potions- ive seen him go through quite a lot of those, despite priest, druid (and autoheals from form shift) and second wind) and action time on heals doesn't sound all that easy to me. It looks more like he's barely keeping up. all those healing spells are eating, buffs, debuffs and damage spells that could be thrown.

Slash/Pierce/Crush
Voss replied to Clerith's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Devoted penalty isn't a big deal. No modal (but on several weapons this matters not at all), and there are lots of accurate weapons. + warrior stance + the accurate bonus for single weapon. Getting around the penalty is easy. If you do run into an immunity problem, switching to club(s) or spear(s) or dagger(s) will get you by. That said, warhammer innately pens every armor type of the same quality. Some monsters may have higher, but against kith, breaking out a warhammer solves everything. -
Are action speed and recovery time the same thing? Some ability descriptions (like two weapon style) use the terms interchangeably, but I was curious if they were actually the same. And if they stack. And if two weapon style affects druid shapeshifts.

I'm not really sold on the ascendant. Yeah, those 20+ seconds are great...but what about the downtime leading up to it and the long slog to the next one? Is the combat going to turn against you while waiting for the power up? I suspect its largely a playstyle thing, but an essentially unskilled archer waiting around to nova-nuke after X seconds doesn't appeal to me.

Unless it is Acquisition Incorporated were nothing is serious and is just for (good) laughs. They are long so I never watch them in a single run but hard laughs are guaranteed. Also watching others play DnD (or any other rpg actually) here and there is good for those who have no idea what it's like playing a tabletop rpg and want to try it or want some game master inspiration. But watching a series of others play, yeah, boring. Unless it's Acquisitions Incorporated I find AI very tone deaf and uninteresting. If it were a homebrew setting it would bother me less, but the whole setup (and most of the 'jokes' and plot devices) is anachronistic, ill-conceived and a poor fit. Plus, roleplaying is a bit more than consistently being a self-centered jerk. Some familiarity with the genre and setting is useful.

That's exactly what I'm going. Hatchet/Dagger for riposte abuse. Boeroer commented on riposte elsewhere. It only has a 20% proc chance on a miss (and nothing on a graze or higher) Abuse it, you will not.

Game comes out tomorrow!
Voss replied to Valmy's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
What? In general steam has normalized most game releases (outside of midnight AAA releases) to 10 am pacific time, Tuesday or Thursday. Love it or not, but it's current normal and has been for years. Has nothing to do with music (??), or retailers (which have long ceased to be relevant for PC games.) -
Wael gets several Mage spells it's subclass set, including defensive buffs - instant cast no recovery spells that give a big bonus to deflection. Very good for a melee character. So Wael is basically cheating and bringing a third class into the multiclassing. The summoned weapon is currently also a little broken, and swift strikes (and lightning strikes upgrade) goes well with dual ranged weapons. Dance of death functions well on a ranged character too, as they're off where they're less likely to get damaged, so the buff can tick up.

Unfortunately two weapon style isn't 'obviously' for assassination in Deadfire. Backstab is a big multiplier and works best with high base damage. So assassins run around with greatswords, pikes and big stuff like that. There are a lot of builds that favor dual weapons, but assassination isn't one of them.
