  1. I didn't mean to say that they shouldn't get to walk in games if they really want to, but the very concept is so far removed from me that I genuinely don't understand what they get out of it. I mean I have been playing crpgs for a pretty long time and I can get very immersed in a game, but walking slows down the game so much it becomes a chore and not a game, and running everywhere is certainly one of the least immersion breaking things around. To me immersion has to do with characters, story, a believable world and stuff like that, it doesn't break my immersion that I can only run, or that I can't jump, or that I can hold 50 weapons that's just how games work.
  2. For years I have been wondering the exact opposite, why in the hell do designers even put a walk toggle in a game, it never crossed my mind to walk instead of run in a game, it doesn't make me immersed it makes me bored. Could someone please explain to me how you could want to walk everywhere in a game, because I am baffled, I just don't get it. I don't care how immersed you are in a world why would you walk across a continent(for example) instead of run if there was no transportation. This is such a nitpicky thing to get angry about that my flabber is genuinely gasted that someone would skip a game because they couldn't walk instead of run.(and I suspect that they wouldn't walk everywhere if there was a toggle, I suspect they would run) It was different for the IE games since they only had walking but you were going pretty quickly, imagine if normal speed in the IE was running and they took 2/3 off and called it walking No way in hell would anyone use that option.
  3. You might want to swap constitution and intellect since you will get more out of your carnage and frenzy abilities that way, or don't swap but even them out to 15-15 if you don't want to lose the extra health/endurance
  4. I love how if anything isn't the absolute best at something it is automatically useless on these forums
  5. Well I know this is personal but to me a stoic knight can never be as fun as as an old fashioned barbarian hero. As far as I have gathered you want to go barbarian for chopping up crowds and berserking and you go fighter if you prefer dealing with one target at a time, of course fighters can also be better tanks than barbs but I am guessing you are going to want to be dishing it out more then taking it from your post. If I were you I'd probably just pick what feels good from a roleplaying perspective.
  6. I don't really know much about the priests but I believe that it's their belief in a god that lets them cast spells, not the actual god who might not even care about the priest or even be aware of him, so maybe that's why they don't want to give their Deity spells a whole lot of power like the Lathander or Talos spells(which I thought rocked since they turned my healbot into an ok nuker in IWD2)
  7. It will probably be fine, since I don't think levels "weigh" as much as in a game like Divinity original sin where you could curbstomp the final boss if you were one level above him and if you did all the sidequests you ended up at least two levels above him. on the other hand in that game you were in for a tough fight if a rat was one level above you and if it was two you could forget about it.
  8. What sane person cares enough about who had what loot to want to check every individual corpse, to presumably make a note of it in their diary or something, but not enough to look at his/her opponents while fighting to figure out who has a sword and who has a hammer. Perhaps you don't want to spoil the corpse checking so you have a friend kill them so you can loot with all the joy and enthusiasm of an old lady watching the tv to see if today is finally the day her lottery numbers are drawn.
  9. If they play the game they will no doubt be exposed to the mature themes swearing or no. While I think that they could add the option to remove swearing(as long as it wasn't too time consuming), I think it wouldn't really hurt them, I played the old fallouts when I was 12-14 and I think I turned out better for it (or at the very least with a better understanding of pop culture).
  10. As far as realism in fantastical settings goes I am very fond of the Discworld, it has it all, Dwarfs, Trolls, Humans, Gnolls, Zombies, Werewolves, Vampires, Elves(of a sort) and many more. It also has magic that can change reality on the whim of a powerful user. What makes it great for me is that all the people(humans and all the rest) in it are people when you come down to it even if they start out as stereotypes. It really shows how a world with all these races and magic would work if it was real. And of course even if you are the most powerful being on the Disc a sock with a half brick in it will at the very least ruin your day.
  11. While I agree with you that individual stealth would improve the game I disagree with your other points. I don't see why other classes shouldn't be able to do things the rogue traditionally did albeit less well. Rangers for example conceptually seem to fit a stealthy type of character even more then a thief in my opinion, after all stalking deer in the woods is not a noisy activity. Locks and traps and other mechanical stuff are also not skills that are beyond the scope of any class. I think the thief could be better at these things with training but I don't see why for example a Cypher should be banned from picking locks, As for spell selection, to me it seems very arbitrary you could argue for anything since it's magic. I would like wizards to have more spells and unique/interesting spells but I don't see why they should have access to all spells, after all cypher spells for instance manipulate peoples souls and only cyphers can do that for lore reasons. It is for balance but it also makes all the spellcasters feel different.
  12. I think I saw Josh Sawyer talk to Sagani in the stream, he sort of clicked on the portrait and then a talk icon appeared, he clicked on that and chatting away they went. Maybe you need to hold down a mouse button over the portrait or hover or something?
  13. Unless you can get your hands on "The Luggage" maybe one of those magical shops that appear when you need them and disappear when you want a refund could come up
  14. I don't really see much of a difference other then making for a sort of fatigue system since you will have to rest after x fights as damage accumulates. Both are very gamey concepts since you can both get a finger chopped off and die, but you can also suffer massive wounds and live in real life so neither really gets realism points here. You being out of the fight at 0 endurance doesn't simply mean that you fell unconscious. It means that you are suffering grave injuries and need help with them from a friend after the battle. All health systems in games I can think of are abstractions. If I have understood it correctly you will be able to heal with spells and potions endurance just not health.
  15. This must be bizzaro world, someone on the board is giving the game **** on account of it being too similar to IE games.
  16. With regards to movement, are disengagement attacks really so murderous that you never ever want to disengage? I don't know since I don't play the beta. It would seem like sometimes it would be worth getting hit to get to a mage, of course it wouldn't if you are instakilled
  17. I think the point of engagement is that you can't just walk past someone trying to hit you, and I also think it isn't to prevent kiting since you can just kite from farther away but rather to make it easier to protect your back line. Of course it also makes it easier for enemies to protect theirs but that should be fun/challenging.
  18. Maybe they could put up one of those hanging tab things like they have for race and class and background showing your portrait small like, but you would have to choose it first not last then. That way you would still have the character model in the centre, you would still have room for ability descriptions and people could look at their portrait after choosing it. It would be small but you would know what the big one looks like and you could flip back and look at it.
  19. Loved the videos since I didn't get the memo about the kickstarter so I'm not a backer, I would love it If you did some more in depth stuff like classes or combat or even how classes and skills affect conversations. The only guy I saw that does class videos is "RPG shack" and while his videos give an ok view of a class he seems to think PoE is D&D since he keeps talking about setting stats to 16 for a +3 or taking weapon proficiency to avoid a penalty which I don't think applies to PoE. (I don't think his videos are bad and I quite liked his class videos but I think a video from someone relatively familiar with PoE-s systems could be better)
  20. Sure you won't earn more xp(but why would you want to, if there is 12 levels you can't really get to 18) but you will earn it quicker which to me seems like you are being rewarded for playing it to some extent. I am willing to bet that since the monsters are hard+normal+easy you will be able to stay a level ahead of any of those playthroughs on path of the damned from a certain point onward(lets say level 6 for the hell of it)
  21. surely due to how the bestiary works if there are more things to kill you get more xp, granted it probably isn't a huge increase but still you do get something. please correct me if I'm wrong.
  22. I get what you are saying but I still hope there is some goofyness, not as much as fallout 2 or anything, but a couple of jokey conversations are always nice to have in a game like this. Of course I'm pretty sure that's how it's going to be anyway. 95% serious and 5% goofy might be the sweet spot I think
  23. Do both the ranger and pet take damage if hit by the same aoe spell, if so I imagine they keel over from one fireball. Perhaps things could be fixed by giving pets some form of spell resistance(not immunity), whether automatic or via talent. Or their health pool could be differently linked, for instance every 4 damage the pet takes ranger takes 1 instead of a 1:1 ratio. I still think they should be linked because meatshield pets are not interesting to me.( I doubt any K-9 unit police oficer would send their dog to get shot if there was an alternative) Also I hope pets will be useful for the whole game and not loose their oomph in the first half.
