Drow suffer from poor classroom discipline. By which I mean hails of poison darts, corrosive mist bombs, etc. Makes it hard to focus.

I don't think I'm being mendacious if I suggest that a three year program should be able to rehabilitate young violent offenders. If sufficiently intensive and well thought out. But a justice system which gave a man three years for - for example - cutting a man's nose off. That's not justice as I understand it.

It could be a retro thing. A 'return to the values of our fathers'. I like your point about armour having a functional component in its aesthetic. You mean like the pigeon chest of 'ironside' cavalry? But magic renders the physical dynamics less important, surely? Also, found this cool helmet while I was looking

I would add that the quality of immersion is contingent upon subjective expectations, but that one can make a more or less objective case about what expectations are most relevant for a particular game. Can you elaborate on your formula? I honestly can't, because the boards can't show that weird 'e' whatchamacallit. Epsilon? The sum of all Xi subordinate clauses. But mainly I'm just interested to see what you chaps can make of those variables.

Maybe that's why they keep shooting teachers and little girls?

Well, given the freedom to choose, I think 17 is a good year.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-24322683 What an heroic attack against unarmed, sleeping, agricultural students. No doubt the moral relativists of the board will put forward a clear concise argument as to why we should strive to understand these chaps, and not eradicate them. And I can only hope that Boko Haram will express their gratitude in an appropriate fashion.

I must say that I am feeling better and better about having eaten so many rabbits.

Speaking as an English gentleman, I would like to see pictures. I would also like to know what 7th grade is. I'm going to assume it means 17 years old.

I presume this is deliberate? Humans are obviously fallible, but it is equally obvious that to embrace fallibility as the guiding principle of civilisation is as self-contradictory as it is pointless. Fallibility is no more an absolute than infallibility. Logic is therefore hardly better than emotion itself. Justice of any description a mirage. My own legs might be a cheese sandwich. And so forth. To permit appeal via reason makes sense. To invalidate reason itself you might as well retire to a ditch and weep yourself to death.

I was going to say "I wash spuds before I eat them" but same diff.

I suspect Agiel knows much better than me what the capability of the bots are. but I didn't mean to imply that a mk1 eyeball was actually better. I simply implied that a human planner trusts a human pilot more. Maybe with some justification, since a pilot may appreciate the significance of a piping hot paveway [great phrase] better than an operator in a warehouse somewhere. I would observe that while it may please our sense of dramatic justice that the villagers run a militant out of town, it would be far more helpful to our interests if they informed on him. I suspect that the use of high explosive as a reaction is one reason that they don't.

Wait. How the hell did Alcatraz get overrun?

I apologise if I'm mauling anyone's words, but I believe I can summarise the points so far: Immersion is that quality of an experience which determines the extent to which the individual feels the experience is significant. This significance is felt initially in a conscious way, but will ideally become pre-conscious in due course. Immersion is ultimately about the processing of the experience. It needs to resonate with the thought processes of the individual. This is aided by verisimilitude in sensory input, but is not completed by verisimilitude. The thought process of the individual is governed by the presentation of problems and its congruence with the individual's problem solving strategies. It is also governed by the emotional congruence of those problems to the individual. The latter function of emotional reaction is improved more by sensory verisimilitude. I suggest that sensory accuracy is not enough for the simple reason that experiences in real life are not always immersive. In other words, to be immersed my consciousness must be presented with I've been trying to do the equation for this, but realised that the forum simply won't show it properly. However, here are the variables I identify: Immersion = i Verisimilitude ranges 0,1. Where 1 is perfect recreation. = v Presentation of problems is measured as ease of the subject understanding and tackling the issue = p Emotional relevance ranges 0,1. Where 1 is perfect emotional relevance to the subject = e Competition is the sum total of all other potentially immersive experiences occurring at the same time = c

I suspect the real advantage is being able to reassure the fire planners that a man closer than ten thousand miles away has eyeballed the target and it isn't a school which just happens to look like Ayman al-Zawahiri from a certain angle.

Beef curry with plenty of what I think of as 'warm' spices (cinnamon, nutmeg etc), green beans and kale. The grenache I had is good, but I don't think I'm in the mood. So I'm switching back to stout, and watching Hornblower.

I was just trying to work out the rough operating costs of an aircraft carrier, and I found this interesting paper. http://www.cnas.org/files/documents/publications/CNAS%20Carrier_Hendrix_FINAL.pdf Their figures they reckon that manned aircraft operating off carriers is just bloody stupid, when calculated at a cost per strike.

I just had an 'Old Slug Porter' from the RCH brewery. Stouts can easily go too rich, or too burnt, or too acid. This was an absolute champion at cool room temperature. Real beef pie and rumination fodder.

I would also ask if you are quite certain whether doing the technical stuff is your thing. You've got enough chops to run around asking for help. You could maybe skill up to work on project management or sales? Both are broader areas.
