  1. That is interesting. I know from studying composition skills of novices that an inability to perceive and correct mistakes more or less defines them.
  2. Should be free.
  3. Maybe they'd be a bit more like elephants? If they gestate for, like, twenty years that could explain the low birthrate.
  4. This is going to sound like I'm wagging my finger at you, but I'm not. Yes, it seems that way, but once you get into the habit of going to individuals, the embuggerance factor is more than offset by having someone pleased to see you and genuinely appreciating your custom. Rather than just being a 'beep' in a monolith's churning sea of financial data.
  5. I don't want to sound too pessimistic, though, Labadal. Only you know the guy. I guess the charitable way to put my warning is that if a deal favours you too well, it may not survive even an honest initial agreement.
  6. I am obliged to agree with Gromnir. Good bacon is a curse never to be lifted. ~ Couldn't get to the butchers in time, so had to go to the supermarket. Bought beef mince and a leg of lamb for tomorrow. Four bottles of assorted ales, and a grenache mix I haven't had before. Should be an interesting weekend, but I'm feeling knackered after a challenging week.
  7. If you can imagine a pig doing precisely these moves, you can imagine me drunk.
  8. Could maybe just replace his rifle with a shotgun, and leave the sights on? Sounds like he wouldn't notice.
  9. A real russian wouldn't shoot the top floor. A real russian would shoot out the whole bottom floor, and let nature do the rest.
  10. I have to go out and buy vittles for the weekend now, after ending work late. Hope it's not too late for the butchers. (It blatantly is)
  11. Rosethorn descending.
  12. I am a big believer in personal trust and honour. But I caution you, as Azdeus did. The worst deal I've ever seen go wrong was because to much was done on faith. The malefactor talked a good line of trust etc. But when push came to shove he just legged it. In fact, I would suggest you have a similar failure case in your instance. The deal was between friends, with an emphasis on cheap work doing the house up. However, the failure occurred because the malefactor could find better paying work elsewhere. Works lingered so long trust was lost, and the guy just decided to cut his losses and run. Just because you aren't paying up front doesn't mean you aren't at risk. EDIT: I just spent five minutes trying to find the new last notch on my belt, since I've been losing weight. It turns out that I'd gone past the last notch already in search of a good fit. Thereby, ironically, proving I've become a bigger cretin.
  13. The experiment I'd suggest would be having the experimenter ask the subject to thank another stooge for a task the subject hasn't had specified/isn't attached to.
  14. Indeed. To go further, I'm not at all clear why this is a significant improvement on BMP-3. There are some advantages to having the body of an MBT, but personally I'd prefer the ability to shift quickly out of trouble, and carry troops. Because even if you are an 'MBT' a T72 can stil get schwacked.
  15. I am experimenting with the notion that perhaps my nightmares are caused by reading the news before going to bed. So I have eschewed it tonight in favour of looking at pictures of fluffy kittens. EDIT:
  16. I have just received a text from an unknown number saying "Thanks again for dinner ) xxxx" Unless it's from my own stomach I am pretty boggled.
  17. The key problem with distributed working is individual work ethics. IMO brain workers are of two types: 1) Those who are strongly group identified, who can be trusted to work alone for short bursts because they are loyal. But then over a long period lose interest. 2) Those who are weakly group identified (selfish ****holes) who cannot be trusted to work alone for short bursts. Or long ones. But really the issue is that humans are designed to work within farting distance of each other. Not only don't I mind this. But if I thought you had a technological way to overcome that ...I'd shoot you dead on the spot.
  18. This will give you a very simple chicken soupy tasting broth that is thin without being anaemic. It costs about 30p. In a small pan, melted one teaspoon margarine. Add one chicken stock cube, crumbled. Add one teaspoon flour. Stir into the margarine on a medium heat to form a roux. Next add one tablespoon of milk. This will boil away merrily, so reasonably fast add a quantity of boiling water. Crack black pepper if you feel like it, or you could add paprika for colour.
  19. As long as it makes you feel all warm and tingly I for one am happy to have ww3.
  20. Do you try compare APC with main battle tank? You are serious? A couple of 30mm cannon does not a main battle tank make, old boy.
  21. Any chance you could have a crack at explaining this without the analogy? Completely over my head. But I have analogical reasoning +8! My navel gazing is to check my navel for fluff, and de-fluff it. Yours (i have so far assumed) is to admire the perfection or curse the imperfection. The distinction is most acute when practically applied. You might spend hours debating some logical issue. I'm unconcerned unless I find my conviction wavering due to changed circumstance or mental stress.
  22. I know that Fallout 3 made them invulnerable, in an attempt to prevent wanting to hurt children. But that mechanic simply made me want to explode children. I blew Megaton up just to get the smug little bastards.
  23. Well, I did say you'd correct me. EDIT: I haven't any use for shooting skills, really. I enjoy the discipline, but have a tonne of other things I need to boost off my to do list first. Much the same reason I don't own a dog.
