Dropping the 'o' would result in funnier words. Also, Futurama is funny. So are Flight of the Conchords. And Monty Python. I must be genetically messed up.

It's good not to have an avatar It's good not to have sigs either However I like my avatar and my sig on these boards here... I'm not telling you what I did today, because you would all die. Of boredom. I've been so sleepy that it was just caffeine that kept me going through today. Yesterday we went out to a party: the first part of '30 years of wave' (1978-84). It was cool to see some old school goths and punks you can actually take seriously compared to the ones even younger than me joining emo-dom because it's 'in'. No idea of attitude. Not sharing any philosophy. That was different yesterday (ok, it's different at any goth event, they're pretty easy to separate from the emo ones. From a female perspective: Now self-esteemless glamour tarts flaunt their sexuality / In the name of Girl Power / They'll lose the fight forever / Selling and trading themselves to the game again and again. Spoiler tags, as it's about posts not in discussion right now: To the point raised by Gorth: Yes, I could imagine that. Parents neglecting or overprotecting/commanding their children could further such behaviour, and also help the victims being more seriously affected by it. -

Yes, I've read that. I always suspected that one of the main reasons for parents wanting to school their kids at home was not just scepticism against governmentally prescribed education or fear for their kid's social status in school, but religion. So thanks for backing this suspicion up with some evidence! It also shows that it is too easy to qualify for home schooling, even if it is regulated. "High school diploma", "religious exemption"... how do these and all other possible "reasons" and "qualifications" make someone a viable teacher?... -
What some of these questions in the "compass" have to to with "right" or "left" (of the poll above) is beyond me. There's liberal* and conservative too, and it's not necessarily tied to "left" and "right". And even these categories change in time, so it's just natural to be rated differently if one takes the test again at a later date I seem to be south-east of Gandhi, closer to the Dalai Lama but still a bit more east *gg* *: Do they use the term "liberal" different in the US? On the compass it's called "libertarian".

Sorry ~Di to dissect your posting, but it's easier to answer that way... I for one wasn't aware of the federal regulation of this matter. Makes things seem a bit less bad. Responsibility? Raising them as best they know? That would be ideal. Even in that case however, no one so far gave me reason to believe that parents know what's best for their children. Even if something is good, everything is ruined when something is forced upon someone "for their own best" - I don't know about your psychological background, but I think it's still pretty obvious that deciding over others is a form of use of force. This leads to the next point: If a kid isn't allowed to learn what other children learn, because their parents decided it's for their own best to stay at home learning what they've decided is for their own best, is censorship, and abuse of power over those weaker than them and depending on them. Call it psychological violence. Call it power abuse. My argument still stands. You don't owe me any respect, what a flowery phrase , if you did, you wouldn't get away with the rest of the sentence which clearly isn't based on any facts you can possibly know about me.Anyway, first: Yes, school can be a horrible experience. It can be, it's not a fact that it is. If it is, home schooling might well be a last resort, but not a very good one, because: If school is a nighmare, it's most certainly because of bullying and harassment by other kids, because if the teachers were to blame, there would be a legal solution to end the situation. So, if it is the other kids, affected children would not only have to be schooled at home, but also kept at home because as soon as they'd want to mingle with some of the same age, they'd be bullied again (a guess: probably worse, because now, there obviously a "mommy's son"). There just is no easy solution to social harassment, but home schooling is one of least preferable. All in all, after thinking about it now considering some new arguments from this thread, I wouldn't condemn every case of home schooling. Still, I have mixed feelings about the exceptions: The thoughts about bullied kids I stated above. Gifted ones would certainly need additional attention, but if the parents - if not as bright and fast as their child - would suffice for long? I doubt it, partially backed up with my own childhood. Agreed. Also, if any parents feel bashed by my statements: Yes, I was talking about you! If parents feel bashed because I bashed certain attitudes of other parents: Don't feel offended, I'm not against parenthood, caring and taking responsibility for kids etc I would take that offer if I would get any kids just to prove you wrong in those points we seriously differ Oh, and thx to the other contributors for not only not getting off topic (topic being sexual education, just as a reminder) because of the home schooling arguments, but also enlightening the commuinity with drop bears and haggis, which raised my own level of education, as I hadn't heard of those before -

Parents have every right to communicate values and their experience to their kids, warn them about dangers etc. But: I wish you infertility No really, who do you think you are? If you have so little confidence in your possible future children, you just weaken them. If they chose to be atheist, so be it, just let them know what your view and experience on the matter is - or be silent if you don't have any experience. What I read in your post speaks volumes about opinions and assumptions (and presumptions) but not of thought or experience. How is commanding your kids and denying them the right to education (which is what the above quoted guy does) going to make them not Also, what is bad about being a poor worker at the corner diner? If that is your kid's way and it is what your kid wants, then it's all good. If it decides to become a satanist, it just has inherited its parents cluelessness, probably revolting against an overly religious "education" by his parents. It must be because I'm an evil satanist sex worker that I've listened to so much Nine Inch Nails, but when reading certain posts and putting myself into the position of a child of such parents, the line repeats itself: "Don't you tell me how I feel" About teaching kids at home: Many youngsters are really thirsty for knowledge. They will listen if their parents are a good source of it, I can assure everyone of that. My idea of an ideal education process would be being told by the parents how they see matters, what they know and think and don't know etc, additionaly to the knowledge taught at school. Denying kids official schooling is nothing short of domestic violence, and violence against the freedom of thought (and isn't there a right on education?). Who is free to think if he doesn't know there's more out there than the probably strict views of his parents? -

Are you one of those who thinks he knows 'what's best for them'? I mean, I get angry even reading this. If you happen to think that mathematics should not be taught to your children, or if you think it's fine but you're not all that good at it, would you let them go to school, but only for courses you approve? What if there's someone actually having more of a clue about sexual matters? What if the children are taught at home what you think you know and is right and appropriate, and also are able to get a different view on things at school? How could that be bad in any way? In my opinion and experience, parents who control the education and other parts of the lives of their offspring always do more harm than good. Even with the best intents. I'd even say: Especially with the best intents. -
Not to mention Swiss (if they have any SIG or RUAG stuff that is)... How unfortunate that it has to be the military of all things that is so 'open' towards european products

Musopticon?: Huh, I'm not sure but probably you misunderstood, my comment was not directed at you specifically, but at the topic in general. Anyway, I couldn't help but read the comments on youtube now that this topic has started. Damn! Anyway, found this sample of high IQ: Not publishing foreign language lyrics (never mind the fact that English is a foreign language for them too)? --> Nazis!

Ok. Let's stop public bullying and teasing, ok? I'll do it, and sorry walkerguy if I've been with the crowd offending you. Now, on topic: Someone a page ago or so implied that sex education could actually be causing this. Or am I misinterpreting that post? If not: What do you think people learn in these lessons? -
I stopped reading comments in youtube a while ago. So thanks for posting the best here, and special thx2th3 op for making posts in this and other threads on a similar niveau

Hell, are they over-dramatizing HPV... Probably some pharma-giant needs some money. Easiest precaution: Use condoms or keep hygienic (main cause of HPV if I remember my biology-class correctly: men not cleaning under their foreskin produce a substance there that nurtures the virus ideally). Also, they count herpes in in their percentage. Now, iirc herpes virus is present in the blood of >90% of all humans. Is it only counted as STD when appearing in any region fitting that description, or is the STD-version a different virus? Anyway, I think the youth is more uninformed now than in the past because of clueless parents, tabooing the real theme while being over-sexed by media etc. May they learn from it. -
Mask of the Betrayer: Mature Game Elements

They did indeed. While the NWN2 OC had some great parts, MotB does not only feel more mature, but also more polished and intriguing throughout -
I would not want something reading like an internet-orthography version of "female breast" as my middle name Why don't they mention Obsidian in the intro? Just publisher and Adventure Pack creator matter, not the game's dev? *shrug* Anyway, that video seems nice.

To the people recommending 700-1000W PSUs: Sorry guys, this is BS and marketing hype. 500W, max. 600W psus with high combined power and efficiency will easily suffice if SLI/Crossfire are not in question. Please google for "power consumption" and psu or 8800gt, you'll find example systems and their power use. It will be lower than 400w, and considering you don't want to run the psu at max load, 500-600w will suffice easily... Also, a GTX is not that superior to a GT. The price premium is completely ridicoulos (about 150$ difference here, don't know about the prices in the US however), while all you get is a framerate-increase of less than 10%. Google for reviews!

Ah, now I see what you were getting at. I thought you meant the IPC, which was already higher for an Athlon XP What I meant to say is that now, it's the first time in many years that intel has the more efficient architecture both on the average amount of instructions executed per cycle and (if viewing the processor alone, and not an undervolted / ulv model) power used to do so. But these technical details are probably not what most users are interested in, but rather in how fast their processor is for the money they invest, and intel currently leads there too, in most segments for the average consumer at least, even without the mentioned "intel tax" that was due in the times of Athlon XP vs. P4.
-
Your memory might be lacking here. My old 1.6GHz Athlon XP (called "1900+") easily beat 2GHz P4 in most if not all scenarios, might want to google it The A64 just made things worse for intel and opened AMDs appeal to a broader public. The same was the case with the original Athlon vs. PII. It was only the higher consumer awareness, illegal marketing tricks, on the tech side higher production output, clockspeed and now the Core architecture that saved intel's market share
