One thing about soul annihilation (besides the possibly bugged damage calculation - https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/96713-soul-annihilation-damage-is-weird/): It somehow feels wrong from a lore perspective that a miss consumes all your focus anyway. The way I imagine it, the Cipher puts the collected soul energy into his weapon somehow, and if he fails to connect with the enemy (so really a miss, not a graze), it doesn't feel right that this energy should simply 'evaporate', right? Of course, from a balance perspective it wouldn't be really viable to keep all the focus until you hit something, but maybe you could just lose a fraction of the focus you put into an unsuccessful strike (you put effort into the attack itself, too, after all), or lose it over time, if you continue attacking with soul annihilation without hitting or grazing. -
Soul annihilation damage is weird

Yeah, I also noticed occasional strangeness with the damage here. The damage popping up on the screen above the enemy and the stuff in the combat log sometimes seems to differ or to not add up (if that is even possible?). -
On my player character I could never bring myself to dump Int. I have some pride, you know.

I was super late with everything (validating my pledge, for example ), because I actually didn't want to follow Deadfire's development and go into the release completely unspoiled and unprejudiced... also I had forgotten my login data. ^^ Well, now here I am deep into multiple character builds in the backer beta, and I missed my opportunity to get that shiny B.I.B. badge

I really miss the carnage AoE circle. I have the feeling my 1h+shield marauder almost never triggered carnage attacks, while my great sword brute regularly hits everything in his proximity. -
Devoted+Barb is But I guess Devoted rocks in nearly every combination. With the devoted's weapon specialization even the Greatsword modal with its horrible -15 acc is a viable option (surely it's not such a big deal later on, but initially that's something like -30% accuracy). Add tactical barrage on top, and he dishes out 40-60 single target damage plus lots of carnage on auto attack. Could solo an encounter with 2 Lagufaeth mages and one sidewinder at level 6 (classic).

But... wouldn't everyone simply go and re-level their character at max level and take all the high-level abilities and completely wreck any balance those trees were intended to have?

Has edge scrolling speed in the options menu changed? I don't use smart camera mostly, and I don't have issues with the scrolling. -
This already worked nicely in PoE. Even if you tried, you could hardly make a character so useless that you couldn't beat the game (on difficulties below PotD and with full party of course). I'm fine with this state of affairs. Where would be the fun of fiddling with talents and stats when every class and class-combo were equally strong out of the box, what would Boeroer and MaxQuest do from now on?

I got the same. I think it doesn't actually break stealth (as in: enemies will detect you), but it makes it easy to miss whether an enemy actually starts detecting you.

Marauder with sabre + shield (required against squishiness for frontline use) seems pretty nice as well. Could solo skulking-terror at level 7 as well as that mountain pass with the boar ambush at level 6 (not PotD though ). Went with death godlike + Streetfighter/Barbarian(no subclass), in order to make use of all the low health boni from racial and class passives.

Yes. Even with the corresponding Cipher passive, my level 7 Witch has Pen 8 with a fine greatsword, while the premade mercenary companions are all sporting somethin like 9-10 with their puny one-handed weapons. It just feels wrong. Add the incredibly long recovery time, and two handers are behind on DPS, and even worse, they are no fun. Watching my PC swinging his sword twice every 10 seconds while missing one of those swings and while getting battered by enemies with twice the attack speed is rather frustrating.

I'm playing around with Barb combos. So far, my dream dual class Barbarian + Cipher couldn't impress me. Always too squishy. Barb+Kind Wayfarer (white flames seem like a god tier power) and Barb+Devoted (weapon focus and fighter stance make two handed swords as deadly as they should be) have given me way better survivability and kill/death ratio.

Am I doing stuff wrong, or are two handed weapons really underpowered right now? Recovery is endless, and with all the interrupts going on, my Witch often fails to strike more than once or twice before going down. On top, armor penetration of two handed sword and estoc (without modal) is ridiculous in comparison to one handed weapons. Dual wielding gets equal or better pen, at least same accuracy, lower recovery (much lower with the dual wield talent)... there's simply nothing going for two handed weapons, or am I missing something?
