The Chosen One
Volourn replied to TrashMan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"i disagree that TNM in PS:T was the chosen one. he was "special", " He very much was a Chosen One. He fits the description to a tee. Nothing wrong with it eince the story should be focused on special chaarcters and 'chosen one' stories fit perfectly. That said, non chosen one stories can be awesome too. -
Teleportation
Volourn replied to Dem's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I love the fact that we may be getting some teleportation (spells wise hopefully) in the game. I lvoe that stuff. There are many ways to limit teleportation - only teleport to places you've been, a certain range, material components, areas which can't be teleported into or out of, etc., etc. -
Kick it forward support?
Volourn replied to Dalliance5's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Nah. Obsidian should be able to keep all the money they earn from a successful release. They should be bullied or shamed into giving that money away to some other loser for their sucky project. Of coruse, as above, the profit is Obsidian's to do with as they wish, so if they want to give money away so be it. -
"a) This should be a place where people who want a high mandatory difficult can prove themselves: hardest area of the game, maybe only accessible on the highest difficulty setting, so that people who want that elitist experience can push themselves." You have good dieas except this one. Content like this should never be locked down based on 'difficulty level'. Everyone should be able to play it without having to fight triple hit point enemies. If I want to play on normal or hardcore level I should be able to enjoy alla reas and not worry about 'missing out' because I don't play on SUPER DUPER MEGA DEATH DIFFICULTY LEVEL. L0LZ

"I am actually quite ecstatic with everything from Update 7. The further from D&D, the better." Eh. Nothing in that update really makes it much different from D&D. D&D tends to seperate combat and non combat skills too. And, there's different ways to give xp as well and is 100%b up to the DM. Nothing original in that update and that's a good thing 'cause sometimes creating soemthing new is not needed when the 'old' already works.

classes? at first, none.
Volourn replied to NerdBoner's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Disagree. It's assumed when you choose a class there's a reason. ie. Sorcerors were born into magic, rogues had oppurtunity to practice their skills, clerics were 'touched' by a god, warriors were in the militia. What have you. What you suggest is not an optional thing in pnp; but to me I find it just an unneeded idea. It adds very little to the experience, imo. Hopefully, there will be background options to flesh out how a character ebcame what they were. -
Project Eternity Wallpapers

Only if there is a H0T babe on it otherwise no thanks to wallpapers. -
"1) Bashing open a chest should destroy / ruin most of the contents inside, and 100% of anything fragile (basically anything other than weapons, armor, and gold) and" It should only potentially destroy things are logically destroyable not most. Potions obviously get ruined but coins dom not. (your second aprt is better) "2) Bashing open a door should both damage the player doing the bashing and force that player (only) 15-20 feet into the space beyond the door." Why should a character get damaged if he is hitting a door with a weapon? That doesn't make nor does it amke sense to forcefully move the player anywhere. Breaking a door should attract nearby creatures though and obviously depenmding on types of traps they could be set off thoguh bashing certain thinjgs could be suefult oa void certain traps - ie... a small needle trap likely won't hit someone hitting a chest with a great sword or axe.

"1. How mega is your idea of a mega dungeon? 5 levels?10 levels? 20? More?" Depends how big the levels are. But, big. Think WK and DT big. "2. How important do you think story is in said mega dungeon?" Very important. Story and atmosphere 9along with encounters and exploration) are what make dungeons awesome. See Wk and figuring out why it was build in the first place. "3. Would you still support a mega dungeon if it diverted resources from the main plot/game? My guess is no, but I had to ask." Sure as long as the story still makes sense. "4. Is this something you would like to see as a high end stretch goal or set of stretch goals? " Fit it where you can. "It can't be optional. If it's optional you can't put good loot in it thus negating the whole point." That's silly. Some of the best loot ever found in games are found in optional areas. It gives players more incentive to explore. "So mandatory and about 150% of Watcher's Keep. Stretch goal would be good." Not mandatory. "But again the loot must be good and the fights really hard." True dat. "No resting unless level clear. Once you enter the next level you can't go back unless new level also clear. " This is illogical.

I agree. One mega dungeon ala WK or DT would be sweet.

"Talking through" the game
Volourn replied to actionjezus6's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Every RPG - including PST and FO - that potentially allows you to 'talk your way out of every/most situation is contrived. See Master in FO. Contrived. I believe you should be able to talk your way through situations where it makes sense. there should also be ways to avoid combat through non dialogue actions as well. But, this idea that you can go a 'grand adventure' without some type of conflict is just beyond silly adn seems better suited for an Adventure game not a RPG. -
"Phew...so no mp/coop for PE ? That's a real relief. I was worried when I read the "SP is our focus" quote. Bioware said similar things with ME3. Bioware is now EA's battered stepchild. Too bad we can't report them to the police!" BIO's been doing MP since well before EA came on the picture. It started with BG. EA is not battering them. The BIo owners sold BIo to EA cause they wnated money and likely wanted out of the gaming bizness. No abuse. Anyways, MP isn't needed for every game. Obsidian will add it or not add it if they so choose. *shrug*

It's a Kind of Magic
Volourn replied to The Dark One Avoozl's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I definitely agree about non combat spells. I hope we get lots of them. -
"Welcome back Volo," ? I never left.

"Bioware purchase + cost of TOR got to be over a billion dollars total! That's has to be the biggest financial disaster in gaming history. No wonder heads have to roll." Garbage hyperbole. "ut there's not a snowflake's chance in hell of them ever making their investment back." More falsehoods. EA bought BIO 5 years ago and their games have all sold 2mil+. If purchase was so horrible why is EA going out of their way branding everything BIo x. If the BIo brand was so horrible you'd think they would avoid using it as much as posisble. buit, hey, these are the same people who think DA and ME series are so over yet DA3 was just announced and more ME content is on the way. Not so damaged.

Races - Don't stick to Tolkien
Volourn replied to Mikey_205's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
SCUK IT DWARF HATERS!!! DWARVES IN TYHE GAME! DWARVES ARE IN THE GAME! LONG LIVE DWARVES! -
"Given that there are going to be several classes and several races (+ subraces, + backgrounds) and Obsidz is on a very limited budget, designing and programming The Event in a different place for each build is a terrible idea. Not to mention writing / scripting every discrete reference to it elsewhere in the game." It's a terrific idea. And, would make the game a heck of a lot more fun. Without it, the game isn't as good. Multiple beginnings and multiple endings can only enhance one's epxerience in RPGs. BNut, hey, maybe they should take the 'ol fashion lazy route and have dwarves and elves start in the same place. They are used a lot but they can add to the game a lot. Since souls have to do with magic maybe they can have sould magic be connected to how undead is created here. "I want to see non-evil undead. I'd like to see a society where necromancy is accepted and used for the good of the entire nation. Mindless undead like zombies and skeletons can be used to perform menial labor. People can pay off their debts by allowing necromancers to raise them as undead after their deaths. Skilled and educated people could choose to be raised as undead so that they can continue to serve their nation after death. People allow themselves to be fed upon by vampires in exchange for ancient knowledge and wisdom or for apprenticeships." Non evil undead is not original. 'White' necromancy also isn't new.

Yet, they're thinking of adding MP possibly at a later date. And, Cain should be careful as wasn't he working on a MMO prior to obsidian? "Bioware gives us crap (DA2 and the ME3 ending) and Obsidian gives us cake!" DA2 + ME3 > SP + DS3 + AP It's true, it's true, it's damn true! P.S. BIO has made SP focused games. Both the DA and ME series are SP focused. So whya re people making things up about BIO? Oh, KOTOR MMO? That was made by FAKE BIO TEXAS *not* REAL BIO EDMONTON.

"how do you know if you like the game without having played it?" That's the paradox. Afterall, for all I know, I might have really liked a Barbie game I didn't try. "ave you ever disliked a BioWare game? Off the top of my head I cannot remember if you have or not..." I've been pretty good avoiding BIO games I likely wouldn't care for. ie. S:RPG, KOTOR MMO, and their 2 early games. I find KOTOR overrated, and SOU passable. In fact, I buy a higher percentage of Obsidian games (only missed DS3) and Troika (100%). *shrug*
