  1. Generally speaking I suppose I'm just the type who doesn't think much is going to be solved via responses on the internet. There's several factors going on (lack of brain-filter/real faces to stare into, cultural/social differences of what's "insulting" or "too far", blahblahblah). Now I don't mean one shouldn't speak one's own mind/put in their two cents if one wishes. I just mean ... it's going to take something more like what Hurlshot's classes are doing, perhaps. Building more awareness/tolerance outside of the internet so less people think it's "ok" to behave that way just because ... it's the internet. The "I can get away with it, so I'm gonna do it" mentality...that's what you're fighting, really. Edit: Also, the "words can never hurt me" thing we're often trained to believe. Which is a type of lie, because words definitely can hurt. It's just different people have different tolerances, like with anything else.
  2. I re-watched Margin Call, largely because of the awesome cast it has. Which makes me wonder a bit about Zachary Quinto. I hear he doesn't want to be Spock for very much longer (maybe a 3rd time). Understandable .... a lot of Star Trek folk get so typecast it's hard to find "popular" work after that. Would they just find a new Spock or reboot the film series once more, I wonder. Also...I saw The Captains - William Shatner's film where he interviews/talks to all the actors who played Captains in the ST franchise (it's recent enough that it includes Chris Pine). Shatner manages to keep his self-absorbed ego at least somewhat in check and it's cool to see/hear from those actors. Altho, I think what I mostly came away with was a feeling of "time is marching on/most look so much older" and learning who Chris Pine's father was ... (CHiPS actor Robert Pine) ... I didn't know that before. Bizarro.
  3. I used to read the manual, until they largely stopped being useful...eg, just listing the controls/hotkeys, a few of the "possible cool items you may find!" and a bit o' flavor backstory on enemies or chrs. or whatnot. A line that goes something like "Strength is the attribute that dictates how hard you hit" and "Life is what dictates when you die" isn't very useful in terms of knowing whether I'm going to like a Sword-Warrior or a Mace-Warrior in a particular game, or whether a mixed-skill type of character may be viable or not. Some manuals are still better than others these days, of course. But a lot of the time...pffffft.
  4. Why I've never been "ambitious" - not having deadlines and lounging about is far too enjoyable.
  5. I thought one of the definitions of ignoring something was, in essence, that you're running away from a problem. Assuming, of course, one thinks something is a problem. Not everyone thinks some troll comments towards themselves on the 'net is a problem. One can just not want to have to listen to it for a while, like one doesn't want to listen to a nagging spouse all day long. Like most people, I occasionally get irritated by or tired of the shenanigans on the internet. But I also know I can go away, immerse myself in life that's not the over-reactive/no-brain-filters internet, and come back refreshed. That's not, imo, running away. That's knowing when to take a break to get perspective so you yourself hopefully won't let temper get the better of you, act the fool, and end up just adding to the problem. Now, that's me talking about general internet trolling. If someone is "cyberstalking" you specifically and/or seems a serious threat to your/someone's actual person, that's a different thing and one should at least report it to the website/IP owner or the authorities.
  6. There are no battery stores nearby? Maybe you could hook up a bag or two of potatoes ...
  7. I didn't even know anyone was pregnant, so you can guess how much I think about/keep up on such things. ...and it's about the same amount of time I spend on wondering if the US President went golfing/fishing or where he spent his Thanksgiving.
  8. I love adventuring with complicated/interesting companions (even when they're not cats), I so far have loved how Obsidian generally writes/does companions, and thus I love this update. Hearing about the process, what the goals may be, etc. And the hilarious troll pics are like the warm drizzle of sweet cake icing that tops it off. That'll do, Chris (and other team members), that'll do.
  9. Twilight Breaking Dawn pt1. Can't believe I sat through all of it. But it was 'free' on Showtime. Netflix now has "Soldiers of Fortune." In the middle of it now. Once they're on the island (this takes a little while) it starts to get a bit amusing. I still wonder what the heck James Cromwell (and others) was doing in this picture, but y'know what, I kinda like seeing James in throw-away role as an aging, spoiled, rich thrill seeker. Also ... Ving Rhames in a dark metal wire helmet saying "You're not my father!" made me lol. Edit: SoF finished ... became almost enjoyable in the bad action movie sort of way. Cromwell kicked butt!
  10. I like dungeons ... in moderation. Whether big castles, long caverns, old ruins. Wide open spaces are fun for roaming and exploring, but dungeons can give a sense of claustrophobia and "what's around the corner" too. Plus different combat tactics. Or more simply, I like variety. That said, stuff like Legends of Grimrock are fun in short bursts, but they're not something I want to play long term. Probably why I preferred Doom over Wolfenstein (the originals, I mean). Doom at least had some variety in looks/design vs. only those same-y corridors and doors.
  11. Our small bathroom is horribly laid out, just like our kitchen. Makes it difficult to consider how to give it a facelift. This whole house is bizarre. Still feeling "blah" ... watching hubby play one of his other chrs. in BL2, because I can't be arsed to play with him today. He found 2 Legendary assault rifles just now ... two. Crazy random luck.
  12. Where did I say that active lobbying to have it in P.E. would continue? It was just my semi-humorous guess that, if someone who hasn't seen such an announcement (that happens) were to post something, it might run into the general debate over whether romance in video games is good/bad additive/restrictive etc. That's a rather universal topic, not just about P.E.
  13. What an awesome pic of a jumping spider. I keep staring at the eyes and wondering what the reflection is from.
  14. Based on the way the internet/game forums tend to work ... not much would cease. The debate would probably just shift direction ... if/whenever the topic came up again. It's not a debate that is confined to a single game, really. Course, I'm a cynical old bat.
  15. I'm completely unskilled at math, but I'm very good at not sleeping and having nothing to show for it other than bleary, bloodshot eyes and the knowledge that there are exactly 11 white spackled spots on the far wall of this room. I think today I should plan/prepare for some house painting. The dark purple bathroom really needs to go.... I much prefer boring ol' beige or something.
  16. Bambie is eye-candy to me and not much more. He doesn't have a whole lot to do most of the time outside of a lot of reaction shots. The reporter woman definitely falls flat. The priest amuses me in that "King mini-series always has an over the top ranter role" type of way. For some reason he brought to mind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar hollering "Bring out your dead!" in The Stand.
  17. I feel like I should restate (since there's some new people in the debate, I think) that I'm neither anti nor pro romance. I'm not big on romance stories in general (film, books, whatever), but now and then there will be one that I do like. When it comes to games, generally speaking, it doesn't even cross my mind. I don't start a story-RPG thinking "I wonder if there will be any romance plots," and if there are none, I don't end the game thinking "I wish there had been romance plots." It just isn't part of my general thought process at all. But if there is one, and it resonated with me personally, I'll go "well that was nice." It's rare that I feel connected to game characters to the point where I want to romance one or play match-maker for some. And when I do feel that connected, often I eventually realize that what it was that attracted me to the chr./situation would make a romance plot (within the game) go against the nature of what appealed to me about that chr. in the first place. That's because of what personally attracts me, of course, but I use it as an example of why I'm fairly ambivalent about romance options in games. That all said, from what I've seen/known in their games, if anyone could make a romance plot resonate for me personally, it'd probably be Obsidian. I still don't expect to see it in P.E., tho.
  18. Every time I see that interview quote, I can hear Chris speaking it in my mind. And I chuckle. ...plus I like that he thinks unrequited/doomed relationships are more dramatic, because (obviously) I also think that way. More dramatic, more interesting, and more potentially resonant than "meet, bicker, misunderstanding, makeup, marry, house, kids." I tend to prefer ambiguous vs. well defined. I don't always want to know how it works out (my imagination can do that for me). ...but I'm really not expecting (main chr/companion) romance in P.E. I could be wrong of course, but eh ... even if there's something, I doubt it'd be very comprehensive. Hints and a few bylines maybe.
  19. Under the Dome - the crazy kidnapping man-child is a horrible character. Or the actor is a horrible actor. Or maybe both. He needs to die. Loved the very very end of this episode tho ... could see it coming a mile away, but Dean Norris made it fun.
  20. Finally upgraded my Firefox to version 20 (I was still on 12 ), which was the last one I downloaded. I'm not ready to try 22, from what I read around the 'net. 20 seems upgrade enough for now, "looks/feels" the same GUI wise and my addons all still work with it. Uses a bit less memory and makes the Neverwinter Gateway site smoother, which was the main thing I was hoping for. ...yeah, I'm slow about these things. Everyone does updates so fast now tho ... feels like as soon as you D/L a new version, they have another one. I can't keep up. If it ain't broke...
  21. I love that .gif. I wouldn't say I find him super attractive, but Ryan Reynolds can definitely be adorable/funny with some of his expressions. ...felt kinda grey-blah today. It's just going to be one of those blah weeks I guess. Blahblahblah.
  22. I resisted the sales...most didn't have any cats, so it wasn't too difficult. Yeah, it's annoying (the c+ stuff too) largely because it seems unnecessary most of the time ... or if they are doing any checks, that they take so long.
  23. You guys are so funny. And I mean that in the best way.
