"I don't think he deserves to be there anyway.  "

Going by TIME's criteria he should be. Like him or not he is the person talked about the most and basically trumps (lol) all other 'news'.

Just look at TIME's history.. not exactly a list of nice people. :p

No kidding. Especially this one:

And now TIME magazine is being acquired by some Koch-associated company that will make all of this rather irrelevant. Gosh, I love modern media conglomerates.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

Time was relevant? Huh. I thought it was relative.

In all seriousness it's sold next to the grocery store checkout, sharing space with Good Housekeeping, The National Inquirer and Archie comics. It wasn't exactly a bastion of great journalism from the get go.

The company buying it said that the Koch brothers won't have any influence, but it still has the taint of being owned by them.

Anyways, in an extreme last minute 11th hour wildcard bid, a former aide of John Kelley is launching a write in campaign. https://www.politico.com/story/2017/11/27/lee-busby-alabama-senate-race-2017-260985?lo=ap_a1

Given that there is just two weeks before the Alabama election, he has a nanometer above zero of a chance of winning, but it may be enough to leech a couple hundred votes from either side. So, the Republicans got their wish for someone to do a write-in campaign, but it's too late to have any significant affect on it unless it comes down to a few hundred votes or something.

People seem to have this idea that politics is the end-all-be-all of everything. If the Koch Brothers do own time 2-3 levels down along with a hundred other things they are not going to concern themselves with editorial choices or other nuts and bolts parts of day to day operations. In other words they will be far more interested in how many issues sell than what is actually IN those issues. Politics is fun and all but business is business.

I think Mother Jones is the worst publication in the free world. I would not wipe my butt with it if it was the only thing I found in a porta-john after an all you-can-eat binge at Chipotle. But I I owned Mother Jones and it was making money I would tell the editors not to change a thing.

He was referring to Sen. Warren with that, and yeah, I facepalmed and shook my head right there and then. Didn't even notice the Andrew Jackson painting earlier though, which is a heck of a blunder (the having the painting there is the blunder, that is).

I think the real historical Pocahontas would like her name back, heh. Though yeah, Trump has been using it in a way to try to demean Elizabeth Warren, so, obviously the usage wasn't intended to be a positive nickname.

Bob had a certain charm, so he takes it over her.

next thing he's gonna call Rouhani Aladdin

Not insulting enough. Sure, the fact that the name is of Arabic origin will tick them off, but his namecalling mainly sound like either something that would come out of an elementary school playground or mobster nicknames.

The fact that he hasn't yet created one for Rouhani is certainly curious. Then again, his focus has been on North Korea and Rouhani hasn't done anything to really piss off Trump or challenge his ego yet. He really shouldn't be doing that anyway in the first place as its beneath the dignity of the office.

Khamanei would be a better target than Rouhani. I suspect Trump doesn't know who either is though, which might be a good thing. He'd probably end up fatwa'ed inside a week.

That reminds me of when ex Brit Foreign Secretary Robin Cook (otherwise a thoroughly decent bloke) decided to hold a meeting with the Irish Prime Minister in front of a portrait of Oliver Cromwell- who infamously slaughtered tens of thousands of Irish.

And for all we know, Trump might interpret a fatwa as a declaration of war. Although, I guess if it's worded in a way as to actually be a real threat, it could count as a declaration of war causus belli. Khomeini hates the US with a passion, but he isn't stupid and, unlike Trump, is actually a skilled politician.

The hilarious (and also tragic, but who can tell the difference these days?) thing about Trump and North Korea is that "Rocket Man" is precisely what Kim *wants* to be known for.  Trump thinks he's coined a clever insult, while Kim grins broadly and everybody on the U.S. side with any knowledge of the situation facepalms.

Warren is still pretending to be native? If she gets joked on for the rest of her life it is completely deserving and 100% her fault.

Regardless of whether she is being disingenuous about it (I think she is), using a racial slur to describe her, even as a joke, is not ok. That Trumpelthinskin decided to use that racial slur during a meeting with the Navajo is indefensible.

If Elizabeth Warren self-identifies herself as having some Native American ancestry, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt. Just because we don't necessarily see it doesn't mean it's not there. The actor who played Zach from Saved By the Bell is a quarter Indonesian -- he doesn't necessarily look it. A childhood friend of mine who has pale skin, red hair, and green eyes claimed he was black. Didn't believe him until I met his parents. Mom was a ginger but his dad was definitely black.

I'm probably more native than she is, doesn't that mean I have the right to think it mildly amusing that her exploits come back to bite her? Trump is a loon, and so is she. Any backlash is deserving for both.

Except she was publicly debunked by the New England Historic Genealogical Society and the Oklahoma Historical Society. She lied to the AALS back in the '80s to help with finding a job, Then the Boston Herald found out, ran the story and she was obligated to stick with her lie.
