Games you want that'll likely never exist

I think it was worse in the ones Crystal Dynamics did before the latest reboot, they had me shooting Bengal Tigers! I chose to give up at that point.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

Wusses.

Pfff, I played Far Cry 3, I carried a wallet from skins of 4 Komodo Dragons, weapons holster out of skins of Sumatran Tigers (you can only use a few cm of skin out of an animal once I'm done with them!) and syringe kit out of multiple Tapirs. I'm the reason why pixelated endangered species are endangered species

I do remember some people refusing to play FC3 because they need to kill fake animals to get upgrades tho. Not a sentiment I understand, but ... Eh, whatever floats your boat I guess.

Actually, you don't shoot any endangered species at all in any of the games. They're pixels.

Wusses.

I have to agree, thus why i'd never try and change any game or take up the nonsensical conspiracy theories about games causing violence or sexism. Therefore I have to arrive at the same conclusion, i'm just a big wuss. Wolves are especially frustrating however, the yelping and frightened barks which are recorded so well in games make my Fido look up at me with his big brown eyes, and I feel as guilty as sin.

I'm a wuss too, I guess.  I do my best to not kill non-aggressive indigens in Xenoblade Chronicles X and even generally avoid aggressive ones, even if their level poses no threat to me.  I'll fight back if attacked, but I don't like grinding on them for exp or loot.  Sometimes when fighting an aggressive enemy I'll accidentally aggro a passive indigen via stray fire, then I have to kill it and I feel bad about it.  This animal was just grazing, minding its own business, then it caught a stray bullet and I had to kill it.  ;(

That said, I have no issue with the game whatsoever letting you kill things, whether human, alien, or animal.

I don't have a problem with killing pixels, I have a problem with the character killing what in their pixel world is undoubtedly an endangered animal. I don't mourn the animal, I judge the character. If the character is a stupid poacher, why would I use my gaming skills to help them get what they want? :p

Basically a Tomb Raider that went in the polar opposite direction...

...of every TOMB RAIDER since the first one?

No.

The first Tomb Raider actually had very little combat and what little combat there was was mostly against animals.  That game was heavily focused on puzzle platforming, (I'm guesstimating here) about 85% exploration and puzzle platforming and 15% combat, and thus is my favorite game in the series.  Every Tomb Raider after gradually increased the combat percentage (much to my dismay) to the point where Underworld was like 65% exploration and puzzle platforming and 35% combat.  Even with the increase in combat, that game was still focused on puzzle platforming (though much less than I'd like).  Then Torture Porn Rider pushed it much further in the combat direction to the point that the 2013 reboot was about 75% combat and 25% exploration.  I purposely didn't mention puzzle platforming because, while technically there were some puzzles, they were so childishly easy that it was flat out insulting, thus I argue they don't count.  I'm not saying this as an exaggeration for emphasis, I legitimately felt insulted by the "puzzles" in Tomb Raider 2013.  The earlier games, though less about puzzle platforming than I'd like, still had puzzle platforming as an integral part.  The "puzzle platforming" in the reboot felt like an afterthought, like they were patronizing me.  It was sad.

Anyway, what I want is a game even less combat focused than the first Tomb Raider and more open and with more human (non-killing) interactions with people.  Like talking to them.

Sorry I dropped the series after the third one because I got tired of running around city levels ("ooo, London" I remember reviews at the time crying) shooting gangsters.

I'd rate the reboot to be better than either Tomb Raider 2 or 3 (but not a patch on the original) because at least there was a rationale for why you had to fight.  I get that you didn't like it, but frankly I was done with the series until the reboot because it had - in my opinion - long ago become about running around and machine gunning people.  Yes I wanted more exploration and puzzles from the reboot, but at least the reboot was honest about what it was with its survivalist scenario, something the series hadn't been IMO since it became "Lara Croft shoots a bunch of people around the world while the press teases whether you see her nude or not" pretending to be a Tomb Raider title.

I'd love a spiritual sequel to Morrowind, similar pacing and multi-faceted story, same systems but polished and expanded rather than simply cut.

As weirdly as it might sound, the closest I ever got to playing Morrowind was with Sunless Sea. Bizarre world, multi-faceted story with factions you can join, a settlement you can build, spy networks you can construct and maddening Lovecraftian dungeons of impossible horrors you may explore. And go insane in. And then be pursued by nightmares. And then watch as your crew slowly dies of starvation. And then start eating corpses of your crew in desperate attempt at survival. And then you encounter it and SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN THE SUN

While it's in no way related to Morrowind (other than they're both open world and RPGs), Xenoblade Chronicles X, in a way, is that game for me.  There have been hundreds (if not thousands) of open world games made since TES III, Xenoblade Chronicles X is the only one that gives me the same feeling of awe and wonder.  That is, however, only from the standpoint of the look and feel of the world, of exploring a weird and alien landscape.  It doesn't have the faction politics and no councilman has asked me to strip naked... yet.

A smash bros game featuring King K Rule.

A remake/spiritual successor of Actraiser.

Homeworld 3, Alpha Centauri 2.

Remakes if not sequels so I can at least enjoy upgraded graphics.

games we want that will likely never exist:

a kinda crpg fusion 'tween indiana jones and call o' cthulhu... need more lovecraft than indiana jones embraced

obsidian deadlands crpg

neil gaiman setting crpg from bioware or obsidian-- graveyard book or neverwhere

barsoom setting for a squad-based tactical combat or turn-based strategy game... made near impossible by failed disney movie

is some other games we want, but most is plausible.

a new mechwarrior Tactical game is being made, so scratch that seeming pipe dream off the list

HA! Good Fun!

edit: am noticing we spelled "indiana" as "indian."  were not intentional... though we wouldn't mind an indian jones character.

A 'realistic' GTA game, one shot kills, physics modelling, etc.

Hey, it suits the title of the thread. :p

The likelihood of this is probably directly proportional to the success of the upcoming Siege of Dragonspear expansion I would think.

Sounds like the gameplay might be too vintage for you as well.
