Going to be heading to Vegas for the weekend with some friends, if only for the sake I have something remotely exciting to do, but find myself at a loss as to what to do when I get there.

Haven't been for a while, but I enjoy the off-strip casinos as much as the wretched-excess monuments. The ones with gold lightbulb marquees and buffets for retired people.

Next time I go, I'd like to catch a Supercross race, or bomb Natties with rednecks at the Speedway. No I wouldn't. Yes I would. The dirtbikes anyway. Monster Energy girls carry signs on the track that say "30 Seconds to Go" which somehow seems familiar and shameful at the same time.

I tend to enjoy the awesome places to eat and the world class spas when I'm in Vegas.  I feel like a chump if I lose more than a few bucks at the tables, not a fan of that.

Why do you guys leave out the strip clubs ? Are you embarrassed...please dont tell me you guys did nothing similar to that in Vegas  :aiee:

I've never really seen the appeal in a strip club.  It seems like a waste of money.  I'd rather take that and spoil my wife, the returns are better.  My wife and I have talked about checking one out, but she'd rather go see a show.   :shrugz:

If I'm going to drop a hundred bucks to get touched, I want someone who will work out all the nasty knots I've got in my back.

Better returns to take that money and invest it, so that you get returns in the form of a larger sum of money.

Mmm...I may be misunderstanding this conversation, but "off-strip" Casino mean "off the Vegas strip" not "off-strip clubs".  The main casinos in downtown Las Vegas were clustered along a strip bordered by certain roads (Los Vegas Hwy, Russel Rd, Sahara Avenue and Freemont Street, I think); other gambling establishments originally that weren't in the strip were outside the city limit.

I've never been to Los Vegas, but if I did I'd probably try to go to all of the places (still existing) that appeared in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER...

You have the Main Strip, and you have Fremont Street.  Those are the main tourist and casino areas, although there are lots of places off on their own, or set a bit back from the main roads.  I tend to stick to the strip, being the touristy type, although my wife and I had an adventurous night out with a few locals last trip that started in a slightly scary part of town called the Art District and ended at a video game club on Fremont Street.  There was some shots and break dancing involved.

But I'm pretty sure Bruce was talking about clubs with naked ladies.  :p

In terms of Diamond are Forever, I think they only used Circus Circus, which is still there.  I hear it is a bit of a dump with a good steakhouse.  I try to avoid children as much as possible on these trips, so I won't be going there.  :p

I think two of the hotels still exist (International and Hilton?)

The so called left government here seems to be preparing to do a coup should they lose the referendum even though they are rigging the vote already.

Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

Off-strip, similar to off-Broadway, I guess, I don't know, never been to NYC or a live musical. My 7th-grade teacher made us watch Oklahoma and the one about WWII in the Pacific--what was it called ...

Today I was dive-bombed passed by a new Lamborghini--Aventador maybe--at full song in second gear during rush hour. I felt it first, then heard the tumult, only glimpsing the royal-blue streak. It was a glorious experience for exhaust-note enthusiasts like myself, but was seriously unsafe maneuvering. He went left around me, then right three lanes to exit the freeway at near-full acceleration.

I know the sentiment. I may be largely single ever since I graduated from college, but I have never, ever been desperate enough to even consider having to spend money on anything resembling "companionship." Edited by Agiel

Pretty sure that's a thing for hookers not necessarily strippers. I would be too worried about her murdering me once in that close.

Hurl and I were referring to the private dances. In any case, not like you have to head for Vegas for strip clubs. Plenty in any big city no matter what state you're in (save for perhaps Utah).

Also never been a fan of strip clubs but I hear the strip clubs in Chicago are weird. Either no alcohol or byo.

Maybe Gfted1 can set the record straight

PS I will admit to going to a burlesque show last time I was there and I enjoyed that

Oh they're there. Right out'n the open, in front of god and your grandma. Went once with friends and found it difficult to enjoy the hair-metal soundtrack, 3% beer, and dodgy patrons. Utah actually had one of the largest underground glowstick contingents in the country for a while ... every Saturday a new rave in the desert, the city, someone's condo. A tale of two opposing cultures, is Salt Lake City.

Temperatures gonna reach 32c (~88F) today and be around 26c (78F) at night.. I foresee a sweaty day! So I'm staying indoors. Now you Americans might not think its so crazy, but remember we don't really use AC here and the air humidity is fairly high.

And we're on the mild end of the heat wave - my sympathies for Spain, France and UK..

Fortune favors the bald.

^ Been hitting 40º C (104º F) the past few days. No A/C, so I've been soaking every hour or so. I'm lucky enough not to live downtown, air here is a bit better quality. City center is downright unbreathable. Worst of it is going to sleep and waking up unrested.

I've managed to muster enough willpower to go hit the gym, but performance is bad and the smell is worse — no A/C there either ("it's broken down, maintenance has already been notified..."). :getlost:

The last couple of days temperatures have been in the high 30 Celsius too (95F), but that has not made me quit lifting every day, and I have no AC. I've simply shifted my exercises times into to night, at 11'o clock temperatures have dropped down to high 20's and thats absolute endurable. I also open certain windows to create an airflow I can stand in and cool off during my exercise breaks. No performance drops whatsoever, on the contrary, currently I'm lifting heavier than ever.

The heat does not bother me in the slightest during day time as long as I'm not working out hard, sleep sucks though. Room temperature above 20 Celsius makes me sleep uneasy and wake up in a puddle of sweat.

Time to invest in AC companies in Europe.

Don't get your hopes up, I don't know anybody who would be interested in the purchase of an AC, aside from places that are near or on the equator thats kind of an American thing. A friend of mine traveled to the US and was quite puzzled by the sheer amount of AC's everywhere. Once the temperatures rose above ~ 83-85 / 30 they turned his hotel room, shopping malls, shops and other public buildings into goddamn freezers.

Heck, having summer temperatures in the mid to high 30 Celsius a couple of weeks is a common thing around here, and nobody gives a damn. I can't even remember the last time I turned on the AC in a car. Open the window and its all good.
