What are you playing now?

It's *very* old-skool with little hand-holding, lots of loot / upgrades and mad-crazy skill trees like Titan Quest. Setting is sort of Grimdark Mad Max meets Warhammer.

Got to level six fairly quickly, very easy so far but only did the initial quest.

If you like crunchy ARPGs you'll like this, am looking forward to multiplayer.

Glad you like it.  I've been playing this for some time now (I was a backer).  The difficulty starts to ramp up around level 8 or 9.  There are some pretty good champion and boss fights.  Like Titan Quest (which this is a spiritual sequel to) there is a wealth of different possible viable builds.  The next bunch of content (Act 2) should be here pretty soon, they've been showing some of it on the Grim Dawn forums.  I'm not sure when the multiplayer will arrive.

I got bored of playing Sorcerer, so I'm switching to Assassin in Dragon's Dogma.

Sword and shield Assassin looks like it could be lots of fun.

Aside from WL2 Beta, I'm getting a hold of Theme Park again - first time in about 17 or 18 years. Made a grand opening but forgot to add toilets to the park and wondered where is all the **** on the roads coming from.

Played a few rounds of BF4, and I am terrible.  Managed to get a k/d ratio of 0.22, so yeah.  I did get better by the last round at least.

This game is insane though.  I was riding on a gunboat, and the weather picked up.  We were crashing into huge waves, and I was using a chaingun to tear down the foliage on the small islands nearby.  It was intense.  I've really never seen anything as amazing as this game, and it's crazy to think I'm playing it with 60+ other people.  Technology has come a long way.

I took a break from beating my head against the wall that was Ornstein and Smough and did a few errands instead. I took a detour back down into Blighttown to pick up Power Within and discover that you can't open the Gaping Dragon gate from the Blighttown side so I had to take the long way back down and out the back entrance. Finally killed the capra demon for the depths key and went in just far enough to grab the large ember and save Laurentius from lunch time. Took a second detour back to the asylum to kill the demon under the floor. With all that taken care of I spent a bunch of souls and titanite to buy yet another cestus and raise it up to Lightning +5.

With all that done it was time to take on Smough and Ornstein once more! This time I would finally kill them both!

*20 deaths later*

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! HE'S DEAD! HE'S FINALLY DEAD! ORNSTEIN IS DEAD!

On my more successful runs Power Within was very helpful. I'd start off the battle with it and use it to take down Smough as quickly as possible. Most of the time leaving me with 8/10 estus left for the Super Ornstein section. Super Ornstein when I actually got to him actually wasn't as bad as the double team section because you only had one person to focus on keeping in sight. As long as you stick close to him, his attacks aren't all that hard to dodge, except for that one time that I somehow dodge rolled onto the end of his spear after his attack animation.

Using lock on actually did more harm than good during this portion of the fight as it made it nearly impossible to dodge his butt stomp properly as you'd regularly dodge into the move or just not dodge far enough.

All of this is irrelevant now though as Punchy McPuncherson has finally beaten the boss fight so I will never have to do this with only fists ever again! No Majek, don't even think about it. NG+ is not happening with this character.

Wait. What? 8/10 .... does that mean you only run around Anor Londo with 10 estus? Or you mean you're left with either 8 or 10 estus out of 20? If it's the first, what is wrong with you?

The former. I haven't gone after pinwheel yet so I don't have the Rite of Kindling. I had to go down there to get my fire cestus, but I warped back to the top with a homeward bone rather than press on for the boss fight.

Honestly there isn't anything in Anor Londo that's all that bad. The sentinels attacks just require you to get close and keep dodging through their legs. The silver knights telegraph their attacks so much it's a rare swing when I don't manage to pull off the parry. The most annoying enemy is definitely the bat demons because any attack you make pushes them back away from you and with punches I've got a small enough reach already. They don't have nearly as high a defence as the sentinels or knights do so 2-3 attacks will kill them. If you aren't running in and drawing agro on multiple enemies at once, it's really not that hard to avoid most of the damage.

Pinwheel is definitely going to be the next stop. I'm not going after any of the Lord Souls without 20 estus. Ranged attacks everywhere in Dukes Archive, lava in Lost Izalith, all the ghosts in New Londo. Tomb of Giants would probably be the best if it wasn't for the 4 legged skeletons that will overrun you even with massive poise let alone my pathetic light armour. After Pinwheel I'll be going after the DLC. I want Ciaran's armour.

I didn't mean the difficulty, it's just weird to me to not go after pinwheel as soon as possible once you're completed the game and are playing a new character. I just prefer to have fun with whatver weapon i have when i know i can heal back if i fool around to much.  Maybe it's a leftover from the first weeks of DS when everything was new, humanity was scarce and japanese  players ( mostly) invaded you at every turn, so the first priority was to have  a bonfire with 20 estus everywhere.

Too bad you've never experienced getting Gravelorded. You would have liked extra BP enemies all over a level. I just got gravelorded in Oolacile Township in ng+ and it's awesome to be scared a bit more again.

Ah! I didn't go after Pinwheel until just before Sens on my first character. Taking him out early would be nice so you don't have to go around multiple times to kindle the bonfires, but feels like more of a convenience than a real necessity. May also be because a lot of the time I'm running around in hollow form so I'm not being invaded all the time. Trying to parry people with the online lag is just an exercise in frustration though.

Yeah, never been gravelorded. Invaded fairly often, but just the normal darkwraith invaders.

Tried to play some more Tomb Raider. Who even came up with this crap?

I try to pretend it's not like the other Tomb Raider games.  In doing so, I actually had a lot of fun with it.

Plus Lara's hot.

I did hear some mention they only decided to go ahead with all of the really nasty stuff in Tomb Raider at the last minute. So Camilla Luddington (the voice artist for Lara) had done all of her other lines, so they got her to come back and she just spent a full day doing the motion capture and pain cries, gasps, and moans they decided to put in for all the potential death sequences.

Have you seen the voice actor/motion capture actor?  You'd want to spend a day hearing her make gasping and moaning sounds as well.

It really is as if they made a world-wide competition though about the ways Lara can get hurt and then realised they couldn't decide who should win and used all the entries.

Hence why I call it Torture Porn Raider.

I want a male equivalent of Lara.

They had Kurtis in Angel of Darkness, which wasn't a good game at all but I liked Kurtis. Or at least, what my memory remembers of Kurtis. I think he didn't have a happy ending tho. My memory sucks now.

Well, I'm stuffed from delicious Christmas Eve feasting, I'm several cups of Egg Nog (with a little somethin' somethin' in it), two glasses of wine, a glass of rum, and a beer deep (plus I got another beer open and about to be consumed), and I'm about to get down on some How the Saints Saved Christmas.

Feliz Navidad, bitches!
