RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!

Recommended Posts

Oh great, now Negative Nancy found this thread too.

First, no-one is forcing you to donate. If you're so poor that 15$ is making you panic, don't worry! YOU DON'T HAVE TO DONATE.

Second, they don't charge the money unless the project receives proper funding, which in this case is a moot point since it only took 8 hours to reach that limit..

Third, this is a site for people who are interested in trying to help their favourite game developers make the games they want. If you're not interested, move on. It's not for you.

Easy, isn't it?

Why don't you just make a little walk outside, you angry whiner?

If Obsidian wants to do something like PST however, I'm gonna make an exception. Those guys know what they're doing.

Well, except when it comes to bugs.

It's cool and portable and not "old school", like wired keyboards and stuff. Ok, I made that all up as a guess.

I loved Grim Fandango. And since Ron Gilbert's involved, my love for Monkey Island can tag team. I wonder if Gilbert stands by his rules from 1989?

That was 23 years ago. So he should have refined them since then.

Because it's fun.

Like almost all art and evolutionary systems, progression is not to be confused with advancement. Lots of it is merely change. Refinements exist, but that's not to say the game wouldn't have that benefit.

I played that silly Ron Gilber game, what was the name...Death Spank, I think. What a disappointment. Writing was as good or bad as the usual Internet humor drivel, gameplay was uninspiring, the rest was crap. Now if you take away the gameplay too, what's really left? Exactly, a point & click adventure.

I don't have time for this crap.

So you're not a fan of the genre, then. No skin off your back.

12600 paid $30 for the same $15 game bundle (thus donating $15 in charity)

2600 paid $100 for the same $15 game bundle (thus donating $85 in charity)

763 paid $250 for the same $15 game bundle (thus donating $235 in charity)

81 paid $1000 for the same $15 game bundle (thus donating $985 in charity)

10 paid $5000 for the same $15 game bundle (thus donating $4985 in charity)

1 paid $10000 for the same $15 game bundle (thus donating $9985 in charity)

You're a bit hung up on the charity thing. I'd tend to look at it as being similar to tipping*. You liked their games, you want more of them. You can't (realistically) go into EB/ Gamestop and leave an extra $10 for them there. I know there are plenty of games that I'm positively embarrassed about paying so little for given the amount of enjoyment I've got out of them. Usually I try and reward by buying their next game at full price, but that option ain't always available. There's no guarantee when tipping that you'll be back, nor that the service you get next time will also be exemplary. But that doesn't make it charity, it's an acknowledgement of quality service rendered against the expectation that further quality will be rendered in the future.

*Non US style tipping that is, where it isn't effectively mandatory and an expected cost.

Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

Activision "should man up" and buy Take 2, says some Analyst

Gotta love that aggressive business language, must be an American thing or something. Or maybe just people who don't produce enough testosterone in their nutsacks so they have to cover it up with "manly" language instead.

Sure, go ahead, buy Take2. Bobby is gonna win, but the customer is gonna lose. Or who really thinks an annual GTA or Bioshock is a good thing?

With Revolution Software due to release Broken Sword 5 this year as a pure 2D point and click, and with multiple other projects of the same nature being developed concurrently by them, it's a rosy smelling future for the genre - driven as it may be by the tablet and smartphone market which I have zero interest in, I don't mind being a beneficiary.

Let's face it, crowdsourcing is kind of like SOCIALISM, so it can't bet good.

Also, I took one for the team and read Gaider's latest foray into novelisations. It's more tied in to the games than the last two and fairly obviously sets the scene for DA3.

Synopsis:

The mages take off and split from the chantry, concentrating into a single tower in northern Orlais. Wynne dies bringing back from the dead a templar chick her son is crushing on. The Divine (pope equivalent) isn't too keen on enslaving mages, so there's an internal rift within the church, with the templars apparently denying her authority.

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?
