6 was my first and still hold it as the best one, 9 after that. 7 and 8 were probably my least favorites at least until XII and XIII.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Was 8 (or VIII or whatever) the one that had a demo PC version? I remember trying one of them and besides the instant turnoff that was the horrible control scheme, it had this emo kid with all attitude and no redeeming qualities that you wanted to put over your knee?

Aren't most FF protagonists like that? :)

I've only played 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, and all the Tactics games. 6 was great as well. The first time I played through it, I left Shadow on the Floating continent to die. I didn't know you could sit there and wait for him. :skeptical:

i'm pretty sure everyone who hates the protagonist of FF8 didn't finish the game. by the end, the character comes to realize that being angsty and brooding only serves to alienate you from others and frustrate people, its not glorifying angst at all.

Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

The general idea behind it is not my issue with the protogaonist personality and his growth at all. To be honest though its also the part of FFVIIIs writing I have the least problems with. (though still quite a few)

I finnished FF8 3 times and I still hate Squall :p

I do not hate FF8 as a game, but I realy do not like it, and tbh half of the game seems to me as much linear as FF13 maybe even more...

FF9 is king of the hill and if i could have one gaming wish to become true, it would be FFIX-2 for sure :p

PS Oh yeah, and some fuel to the debate :p

FFIX > FFX > FFX-2 > FFVII > FFXIII > FFV > FFIV > FFXII > FFVI > FFVIII > FFI > FFII

never finished FFIII :(

Yes it was FFVIII. The control scheme was just fine, but you should have used gamepad not keyboard and mouse :(

And the Obsidian Box went out for a thousand bucks. That's good. Wonder what's the rarest in that box : the Planescape : Torment big box, or a working version of KOTOR 2 :p ?

Highest Auction at that.

Steven asked some pretty interesting questions. Its clear that he is a big fan. ;)

I was late at the questions, I think I caught up at the point where he asked who was Chris' favorite voice actor for one of his games. I suppose his question about Sheena Easton shows how much of an 'old' fan he is ;) . What were the other questions before that?

I'm pretty sure I finished it twice. I don't even remember angst, but I hate him. He had no personality and all the character development was rushed.

But aside from that, the ending is not the judge of a plot or characters. They must be enjoyable throughout.

No, he was all the more hateable for that ending because you feel like you've just had to roleplay an immature eight year old. So much time, head-grabbing, angst, yelling, special effects and dramatic music goes into a totally juvenile self-realization.

It's like one of those people who are really Serious Business about how nobody appreciates him and he hates everybody, but actually, he's just a lazy self-centered poo-poo that just needs to grow up a little.

Eidos Montreal studio boss Stephane D'Astous just tweeted that they are talking tomorrow about some of their "big plans". Interesting...

Square-Enix opens another Monreal studio, creates 250 new jobs.

Also they apparently are announcing a new Deus Ex game by Eidos Montreal, but that's not really a surprise nor very clear in the release.

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?
