Dragon Age 2

He speaks too much like a politician. He says he understands what people are saying, but doesn't reiterate what it is that these "people" are saying, so it's impossible to know what he is actually agreeing or disagreeing with. He's trying to calm the crowd, without going to specifics.

I think he also addresses the fact why they don't go into the specifics, in that very thread. (They're not allowed to). Could've been another thread, as well, but it was definitely mentioned yesterday.

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?

I read about half of that thread.

Mike begins with some bull**** bingo before launching into the classic managerial mea culpa of "we'll learn from the mistakes" (mistakes repeatedly pointed out prior to release and during the development cycle) before then explaining why the mistakes are, in fact, innovative. It's good to see that it's not only my own profession where poor decision making is turned into nuanced, cunning victories by folks who won't listen.

Then the thread turns into a moderator / developer circle-jerk, with the occasional shill allowed in to make very minor criticisms.

The repeated references by fans to TW2, and the mods saying that it's O/T is amusing though.

Cheers

MC

You'd understand the mods position, if you read the other threads too. The troll brigade has been flooding every single thread with "omglolwitcherissomuchbetterthanthisbiowaresux" for months, certainly much before w2 came out. While I'm sure that it's behaviour you fully endorse, you must understand how it can get a bit tedious and breach forum rules, never mind the rules of common courtesy. :shifty:

Laidlaw and Bioware don't have to answer or make apologies to anyone. They made their design decisions and it paid off, because DA3 is already on it's way.

You are now unmasked as Volo's alt and I claim my five electrum pieces.

And the Jersey Shore has been renewed for another season, your point?

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Point is - Why work hard for your money? If there's enough players for the Dragon Age 2 "quality", why would EA waste money to develop something that might cost way more to make and might not get increased sales to justify that cost. I mean I expected Dragon Age 2 to crash and burn but EA managed to dupe a good number of players and retailers to buy their game. 2 million units moved with barely any effort. It's perversily impressive. Like the success of Jersey Shore :shifty:

R00fles!

Seriously, can you point out any major design flaws? Apart from the dull enemy waves there was nothing that stood out as annoying or fun breaking.

BTW, Laidlawl said people felt DA2 was easier than DAO. Was that the impression people here got as well? Cause I found DA2 clearly harder, though not significantly so. Maybe it was all the DLC items...

I found DA2 nightmare significantly harder than DAO nightmare. It wasn't for the right reasons though. Mostly one misplaced melee attack could wipe my entire party and apart from the trash mobs, too many enemies had too much HP, making combat less about strategy and more about speed, while still remaining tedious.

I did enjoy combat the first time around. I thought the cross class combos were cool and liked the faster combat. However, I've been unable to complete another playthrough just because I don't want to suffer through the tediousness, which includes lots of HP, copy-pasted areas and waves.

I tried playing on lower difficulties, but that just seemed to make it not challenging and still tedious.

I liked most things about DA2, but they need to step up designing much better combat encounters, much better environments and artwork (I just got through the prologue for Witcher 2 and it makes DA2 look pathetic) and non-combat abilities integrated into gameplay.

I found it to be easier, just consider that your characters wouldn't take potions on their own and still survive unlike DA:O. Also you just had to auto level your companions to be at max fighting efficiency. So was it really harder? :shifty:

DA2 was definitely more challenging than DA1.

"^ Dunno Morgie, I didn't play it.

Then again, I've never watched Jersey Shore and I'm still perfectly confident it's ****. "

That's how I feel about TW2. A crap sequel to a crap game.

I dunno, I don't even have an opinion re:Witcher 2 itself, but just the sheer amount of people I consider to be complete **** fawning over it completely turns me off it, even if some people for whom I have at least a modicum of respect tell me I should definitely go for it.

I got off to a very strong start on The Witcher then slowly, and sadly, lost interest. It confirms what I always knew - fixed protagonists kill games for me. The fourth wall is too visible.

My gaming time is limited at the moment - I'm not in the mood for forgiveness so TW2 is not on my horizon.

I am in an pretty bad mood at the moment (I tried to do a Robocop trilogy marathon but could hardly finish the second, what were they thinking?!) so i will keep it short:

1) One city with no variation

2) Reuse of areas

3) Wave of enemies

4) Having to fight enemies in carefully selected places with invisible boundries

5) Having a personal story that spans 7-8 years but only being able to be bad, witty or good + it is told by another narrater is exactly how you should NOT design it

"Some men see things as they are and say why?"
"I dream things that never were and say why not?"
- George Bernard Shaw

"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."
- Friedrich Nietzsche

"The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it."

- Some guy

Dragon Age 2: Warrior edition.

Teleporting paratroopers.

All locations are standardized.

Choice of Psycho!Hawke, Sassy!Hawke, Boy Scout!Hawke. No exceptions.

Pointless hordes of DLC.

Even Volourn "BIO4EVA" gave it a 5/10. What do you mean there are no major design flaws?

Pointless hordes of DLC.

*looks around*

This is pre-emptive, I take it?

Or are we just talking about all the "bonus" items? Yeah, don't really care enough about them to consider it a flaw, but it has kind of reached absurd proportions.

I was actually surprised there wasn't more. EA seems to have an on going DLC thing setup with Dr. Pepper for several games, but DA2 didn't have anything.

I'm going to need better directions than "the secret lair."

DA2's major flaw was being a bad sequel to a terrible game.

To fix the DA series, Biowarian's will have to play the Witcher 2.

Even that may not help.
