"When it became apparent that DAO sold better than ME2"

No, no it did not. This is a silly myth that some are passing as truth because DA had sold 3M+ in about 6 months while ME2 had sold 2M in a month. L0L The games are probably neck and neck.

Methinks this will be the first Bioware product to get major slamming by reviewers if the previews are anything to go by.

@Nepenthe, what did the character sheet and inventory look like. I'm trying to ascertain how much they dumbed it down.

Previews seem pretty enthusiastic so far outside from Germany. Germany is a big market but ultimately Bioware can go on without them, and I honestly doubt gamers care a lot for german reviewers. Not to mention that basically the only criticism of that german "review" (? seems like a preview to me, why the use of the term?) is that there are not enough NPCs in the city and that the game is buggy.

What previews? All we've seen are people talking about demos at overcrowded conventions. That is hardly a good indicator for a game, particularly an RPG.

Dunno what you're reading but the four previews I read complained about everything from the graphics being substandard to the combat being average. In short they complained about everything they saw in the short playable demo.

The overall impression was uniformly average.

I couldn't get it to display either. I think it's intentionally locked out in the demo (ie. not ready).

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?

You cna't handle facts.

I do laugh at how people's perceptions over actual previews a re different. Some claim the previews are all negative and others claim the very same previews are all positive. L0LZ

It's not really a matter of perception when a preview state that the combat is more fluid and natural and that the game feels cinematic and has finally left the 'mute player character' relic of the past behind. Not every preview I've read was positive, that's for sure, but most of the previews I read were. I haven't been following them much recently, so maybe I missed a barrage of super negative previews that somehow hint at reviewers slamming the game? Unless "slamming" his code for "another Awakening" which was solid on metacritic but not quite on the same level of Origins.

Listening to podcast now.

Hawke = Same inventory and skill/ability progression as DA:O

Followers = ME 2 'inventory' + weapons, belt, amulet, and rings. They've said they've made the skill/ability progression 'more unique' for each follower. For example, Isabela is a 'Rivani swashbucker.' Sounds like a unique specialization to me, but not sure.

...so followers don't have an inventory? That's a baffling design decision. Do they give any reason?

To give them all 'a unique look and feel.' 'Visual fidelity.'

You can also find or buy follower specific upgrades to the base armor. *is listening right now, it's 20 minutes long* And some of the high end upgrades have rune slots.

The character's armor also progresses on its own when you have the time jumps.

Edit: Talent trees istead of a liner progression for all characters. Also, the ability to upgrade previous ones.

German Review. Apparently, the cities are poorly designed.

David Gaider on the matter: Seeing as most of the props and ambient cityfolk have only recently begun going into the build, yeah, I don't doubt it seemed pretty empty to him. No doubt he was told this when he was shown the demo, but some people are going to comment regardless. Nothing we can do about that.

LOL! Try on 'it's a console game, inventories are for old farts with beards.' Which is the real reason.

ME2's inventory was excellent, a huge step away from the tedious inventory systems of the past. Although I get why packrats will be peeved.

I hate packrat systems. I really liked what ME2 did. I've never been a fan of gear progression, preferring equipment to fill different roles instead of simply being stronger. If DA2 is doing it similarly, I'll have to give it credit.

The original ME is probably the worst inventory system of all time. Kind of funny how it went from one extreme to the other.

When ME 2 came out, I started a thread on the BSN suggesting I'd like to see their costume system in DA II. Queue eight pages of posters calling me a console kiddie who wanted to dumb down RPGs. Also, not a real BioWare fan who needs to go back to her JRPGs.

I don't think it's just packrats. I think there are many people who see the most cumbersome aspects of Western RPGs as important and defining the genre.

these last couple pages are very entertaining reading.

I stand corrected about dev time, they probably did start right after finished the pc version. So if this bombs they have no excuse. Its also interesting though that only the xbox version is being shown, and perhaps that version will be inferior once again to pc version. I obviously still have a little hope for this game or I wouldnt be here.

and as to inventory issues: I did not like the inventory in dragon age. big lists are lame. I like tetris inventories like deus ex, system shock and diablo :p

oh well, can't please everyone!
