Zoma Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Title: Legend of the Galactic Heroes Genre: Epic, Science-Fiction, Drama, military No of eps.: 110 TV eps, 2 movies, 55 OVA eps One of the longest anime series ever. Fantastic show nonetheless. Its not your typical cutesy anime as the story is geared towards adults with political intrigued and military tactics. The title is known as "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" if translated accurately from its original Japanese title. It has yet to see any form of release or licensed in the States though you could get it via torrents. This is an epic Science fiction show based on a Japanese award winning novel in the 1980s. Here is an excerpt of what the show is about: The story of two mighty space empires is told from the viewpoint of two 'heroes': Rheinhardt Von Museal, Admiral of the Galactic Empire, and Yang Wenli, Admiral from the Alliance of Free Planets. Both men are military and tactical geniuses and are born survivors. The ambitious Rheinhart has the goal of getting enough power to be able to free his sister from her obligation as one of the Emperor's Court ladies. He is fairly ruthless in this which is tempered only by his aide: Siegfried Kircheis. Yang is a pacifistic man who, when necessary, will do his duty even if it means fighting against an enemy fleet (since he is a *soldier*, after all). The drama between these 2 men is played out against a backdrop of great space battles, inept commanders, frightened soldiers, personal relationships, corrupt politicians and the workings of two space empires at war with each other. This is a space opera on a very grand scale. Note that there is a very heavy Prussian influence on the series, especially present in the Imperial uniforms... Gorgon Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I would be interested in non-potatoehead manga, or do they call that comic books ?, to improve my japanese. Something simple would be preferable. Na na na na na na ... greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER. That is all.

Pidesco Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 FLCL I suggested it first! "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands. Heja Sverige!! Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
Purgatorio Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 (edited) Berserk... I still haven't seen what happens after Griffith becomes a demon. Assuming something does happen... probably should do a search but I doubt I would be able to get them here, cheaply. What's FLCL? Edited November 12, 2006 by Purgatorio S.A.S.I.S.P.G.M.D.G.S.M.B.
Gorgon Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 (edited) "And?" Nothing, I was just interested in non-potatoehead comics in the same style. I find most manga to look too, whats the word, overdone, for my taste. " Most people probably aren't responding to your hijack attempt, but to the topic itself. Pidesco Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 (edited) I still haven't gotten exactly what you're looking for. For the record, manga refers to comic books, and anime to cartoons. Musopticon? Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Calm down sport. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm as calm as it gets. I thought your reaction was silly, that's all. You, on the other hand, don't know what you are looking for. Anime means animation, while manga is comics. There's a thousand million styles to both. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. Xard Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Neon Genesis Evangelion (Awesomeness. Besides, I'm fanboy ^_^ ) Cowboy Bebop My number two favorite anime, NEARLY favorite. Finale (The Real Folk Blues I & II) is marvelous, as is whole show. Story is great, animation rocks in every episode and Spike is just cool. Azumanga Daioh Maybe funniest anime ever. Any Ghibli movie Rurouni Kenshin OVA-series. Best Samurai stuff anime has to offer. Serial Experimental Lain Whiii! Memories (DVD, 3 short stories) especially Magnetic Rose is great. How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them. - OverPowered Godzilla (OPG)
ramza Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Ok, here comes the anime-manga specialist! if you are looking for mangas (comic books), I would recommend: -ranma 1/2, maison ikkoku, bleach, fullmetal alchemist, eyeshield21, naruto, rurouni kenshin, one piece if you like light stuff without too much text and not a very complicated story -otherwise, HunterXHunter, Gunnm, Gunnm Last Order, Neon genesis evangelion, Monster, 20th century boys are for you if you like deep and dark stories. There's some philosophy in those so it may not appeal to people who dont like serious stuff if you are looking for animes, most of the mangas listed above have also been made in animes but there are few ones that are unique and worth a look: -Excel saga, FuriKuri (Fooly Cooly in english, or FLCL) are hilarious ones even though the story doesn't make a lot of sense. If you are looking to improve your japanese, you will have a tough time since the characters talk very quickly -Other choices for animes are all of Ghibli Studios' movies (Nausicaa and the valley of winds, sprited away, etc), Slayers (if you like heroic-fantasy), Hellsing, Tenchi muyo, Gunslinger Girls, Chobits (this one is excellent!), Love Hina, and Escaflowne. The good thing with mangas and animes is that there are so many out there that you will find at least one that is suited to your tastes. I suggest you take a look at the titles I mentioned with Wikipedia. Cheers. "Ooo, squirrels, Boo! I know I saw them! Quick, throw nuts!" -Minsc "I am a well-known racist in the Realms! Elves? Dwarves? Ha! Kill'em all! Humans rule! -Me Volourn will never grow up, he's like the Black Peter Pan, here to tell you that it might be great to always be a child, but everybody around is gonna hate it.
