Oh my god, I just learned that Square Enix sold its studios to invest into crypto/NFT crap. What makes it even more stupid is that the NFT market is collapsing right now.

When people in the FF XIV community wax poetic about how awesome Square is I like to remind them that FF XIV is good despite Square Enix, not because of it...

If they couldn't manage to make enough money off of Tomb Raider... I mean, I really don't think anything needs to be added to that.

Oh boy, I just realized that Warhorse is under Embracer as well. Give me Czech Deus Ex!

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Not my cup of tea, but one bright side is amusing to see everyone tripping over themselves to whine about it

I think they made money off of Tomb Raider.

I think the real problem is that Square Enix sees their core business is the Square and Enix IPs and anything else is a dalliance.  I think they had just as much of an idea of what they wanted to do with Eidos/Crystal Dynamics when they bought them as they currently do with NFTs.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

They definitely made money off of Tomb Raider (and Deus Ex, to a lesser extent) but not as much as they wanted, and not as fast as they wanted. IIRC the only title using a 'classic' Eidos IP to actually lose money semi recently was Thief. Of course, SE's solution to the studios not being profitable enough was licensed Marvel games that they somehow contrived to lose- apparently- $200 million on.

What do you guys think? Assuming there's some truth to the rumors, will those of you diehard fans of F:NV who've been hoping for a sequel be okay with that sequel coming from inXile rather than Obsidian?
