Guard Dog
@GromnirI don't remember who said that Trump would be the death of the GOP but they were right. They didn't just turn their backs on their own legacy, they dropped trou and shat on it after doing so. This country NEEDS a viable Republican party. Or something like it. Not this thoroughly ruined and discredited thing Trump is leaving us. The Texas AG is tweeting about an election that didn't go their way as a pretext to secession. Now, there IS some precedent for that... but over THIS election? This man is not worth the fight to keep him in office. Biden is not the Stalin we are afraid will come from the Democrats. Hell we have a 90% chance of divided government for at least two years. And if historical trends are followed there is a good chance for divided government all the way to 2024. Guard Dog
No the Democrats would not have done exactly the same. It would be a different flavor of bad. What we have seen the last four years is something unusual and hopefully won’t happen again. But the Democrats are no saints. And they have been more than willing to overlook illegalities amongst their own to keep hold of power. It’s just a different color bear. As for your take on divided government all I will say is it’s far better than the alternative. Over the last 20 years bad things have come from united government. In other news democrat congressmen and former presidential candidate Eric Slawell looks like he’s been f—king a Chinese spy for a while now. Trump is gone, the government is split and a (hopefully) less activist court? That is a win. I can see how it may appear this is the end of the Republican party as we know it but I am confident that this will not be case, the GOP will survive but once Trump is gone there needs to be some honest reflections on certain political decisions certain politicians made in support of Trump and the GOP will address this internally You mustnt forget that Trump helped achieve core Republican objectives like tax breaks and the SC court placement. These do matter and people will remember this and continue to support the GOP which is the right thing to do because the bad things Trump did that caused major criticism is not enough to honestly destroy such a prestigious and historically important party Can you imagine if it was possible for a 4 year problematic president to really destroy any political party that has existed for over 150 years. If this somehow did occur it would be a travesty of justice and an idiosyncratic anomaly around reforms that all parties have to make at times But I do agree they will have to make some changes in there ranks and remove any extreme " Trump " politicians that use to deny the virus and question the things like proven science in a vociferous way "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. A sitting president who did not prevail in his bid for reelection has asked for federal court help in setting aside the popular vote based on disputed issues of election administration, issues he plainly could have raised before the vote occurred. This Court has allowed plaintiff the chance to make his case and he has lost on the merits. In his reply brief, plaintiff "asks that the Rule of Law be followed." It has been." dismissed with prejudice. real republicans, a handful o' them in the courts and in positions o' authority in georgia and arizona, has shown they understand what it means to be governed by laws as 'posed to the tweet rants o' a petty would-be autocrat who managed to hijack his party w/o ever winning an election by popular vote. we also listened in on the wisconsin supreme court hearing today... arguably the most blatant republican Court majority in any state. when speaking o' judges, there is a big difference 'tween conservative and republican, and the majority o' wisconsin judges is republican. am admitting we were surprised when multiple judges called out trump efforts as racist--such is the first time we has heard a judge do so in one o' these election cases. didn't happen with detroit or philadelphia cases. jill karofsky, one o' the non-partisan judges on the court 'bout whom we knew almost nothing before today, were particular dismissive o' trump and his attorney, calling their efforts "unamerican" and blasting the unsubstantiated and general accusations o' fraud absent any meaningful offers o' proof. the overt republican judges o' the wisconsin supreme court were a bit more reserved in their criticism, but there is no mystery 'bout the future o' trump's last gasp efforts in wisconsin now that the court has adjourned.
