Baldur's Gate 3?

Recommended Posts

Nah. That seems more like to better design the sharp XP curve, which forces you to buy XP boosters pack, so it is will be less visible by random player Joe ;) How to hide it better, than with "proper" RPG elements ;)

CD Projekt has something major to reveal at E3 this year. Will it be BG3?

Quite of the few of the mad hatters over at 4Chan seem to think so:

Nah, if anyone is working on BG3, it must be InXile or that Ex-InXile shmock who wanted to buy back Interplay. Saying "It's not Larian" probably meant to be their way of saying "it's obviously us".

I'm on the "It's CDPR or Larian" bandwagon. Both have talked about their yet to be revealed RPG as using an existing well-known IP that is new for them, so D&D would be a very likely fit. Also, Larian's denial was that they were not working on BG3, which could very well just be semantics because it is very likely a new game set in the Realms and BG-esque, but NOT named BG3. However, CDPR bought a whole bunch of additional office space and hired an addtional 150 or so new personnel recently, which would fit with a huge AAA new game which is exactly what the current WotC boss has been wanting for a new D&D game. So either of these studios is a very good and likely possibility, though my personal preference would be for CDPR.

Little did you suspect, but in the BG2 finale you became the deity of loot boxes and microtransactions. Now its payback time. 👺

I haven't seen any details yet but I'd be surprised if it isn't whatever edition is the latest and greatest.

Wonder if there's a sense at Beamdog that they've been passed over.

Larian can outsource the expansion to them next year.

You bet they're gonna screw this up.

I mean, no way they're gonna create BG3 in 2019 (or whatever year they'll release it) and make the old guard happy at the same time.

Welp, hard to get hyped about this after all this time. The Saga was complete, after all, so I can't help but feel that this is just cashing in on the cult following this series has garnered over the years (not necessarily by Larian though...)

Doesn't mean it can't turn out to be a great game, but tying it to the Baldur's Gate name sets extremely high expectations as far as I am concerned (BG2 is still the standard I measure all my cRPGs to and none have since matched it, in my eyes)

But we'll see, we know nothing about the game right now (except that something called Baldur's Gate 3 is being made by Larian) but I find it hard to get excited ("dread" is a more apt description) and have a very hard time wrapping my head around the amount of hype the trailer is receiving. Companies have been trying to match BG2 for years (including people actually involved with the original), and none so far have succeeded to recreate the magic, the best "modern take" on a "BG3" is still DA:O, in my book, and that might be saying something (it's also been a while...)

Anyway, I would have preferred Divinity 3 (not Original Sin 3), but we get what we get...

Heck, I'm been waiting for years for a game like this. I've been playing Sword Coast Legends this year only to get my D&D CRPG appetite whetted, and I've been humbly grateful for it even existing, so this is a day 1 purchase for me (prolly pre-order), unless it's an Epic Exclusive deal, that is. I mean, how bad can it be? *A rhetorical question that accidentally opened up Pandora's box*

As far as I know it's WotC policy to license out only the latest edition.

But who knows, maybe we'll get AD&D back. Bring on the THAC0s baby, screw BABs. :p

Swen already made it very clear what the thinks of exclusives, and unlike a bunch of others I expect him to stick to his principles. (as far as I know they've always delivered on their Kickstarter promises, despite sometimes rather major bumps (*cough* Linux *cough*), unlike many many others who just canned promises when things got rough)

To some degree i am hyped, since it is BG3 yay.

But i realise that it is just memories so it might as well be nothing special.

But it is Larian who are good/great, and doing their part for better games.

Any good cRPG in production is good news.

Meh. "Story" is just the part I click through to get the best result. Mechanics is whats entertaining to me and I think 5e only offers three "trees" per class?

That's not how 5e works. There's no trees. Sword Coast Legends was not really 5e faithful if that's where you're getting it from.

Huh, well I'm ready for another D&D game, so I'm looking forward to it. Larian has this weird habit of losing me after the first act in every game, but the different setting may help.
