I really hope OE puts a UI like this in (even as a post release patch or maybe with the expansion). This would go LONG way at getting the "feels" in.

It would be nice if there were a way to disable that even from a performance perspective. If push comes to shove, I am curious if we can use a wrapper like sweetfx to disable all that.

They need to scrap the the combat only flag for everything except stuff like chanter songs (since that would let them build up spell points out of combat - or rid of it for them too but only build up points in combat). The reason for this was save file corruption right (cant remember Brennekes post on this)? Heh, cant they just cancel out all abilities when making a save? Maybe have a dialog box pop up saying "Saving cancels all active spells, modals and other beneficial effects except for rest bonuses. Are you sure?" and bam, problem solved.

Injury status effect on downed
That would have been cool if they put that in from the beginning. They could even have put in a medicine skill or curatives to deal with injuries, etc. Its way too late in the game for that kinda stuff though. Maybe with the expansion?

Part of me wishes you wouldn't have posted this (ignorance is bliss, etc). Its far far better than what OE will have time to do. I almost wish they would wait on putting out the solid ui until after release so they can implement something like your mockup.

Its a real shame they cant do a UI like this. This is exactly what a solid UI should look like. A simple box image floating behind a minimalistic UI does not capture the spirit of what a solid ui should be.

435 Discussion
All these DT balance problems... sigh... if only they kept the old armor system. Combat felt better to me dmg wise for light and heavy weapons in v364.

More Orlans please. Will be impossible to get custom orlans online to import. So only orlans will be your orlans. Edit: and Aumaua too

Backer Beta Build 435 is Live!
Everything should work out of combat. There are several key modals and abilities that do not. Whether or not these abilities are in the minority is irrelevant.

They need to rethink this combat only business. If I want to turn on an aura or charm a monster or whatever outside of combat, I should be able to do that. Let the player be a sneaky bastard and get the drop on monsters. I can respect short buff durations but this combat only flag seems like a mistake.

I remember those scripts being mostly crappy and I rarely used them. Still, it would be nice if they were done well.

Considering that fights should last considerable longer, interuppt builds may have more time to shine. Hearth Orlan Skaen Priest with high perpection and intelligence that dual wields stilletos. Yup, that might have to be my main depending on how it plays next patch.

They could do to accuracy what they did to deflection. Split the bonus between two attributes. I would go with dex and perc each giving .5 per point. I would keep the bonus small. You could then move the full deflection bonus to resolve (none on perception). Even doing this, I can see people wanting to max per and dex for 8 more accuracy. I think its fine with accuracy gone tho.

Suggestion - Pick Ability OR Talent on level up instead of alternating.
I'm hoping for more abilities/talents/etc in the xpac. Much the same way that BG2 added kits to the BG system.

The system is fine as is. We just need more class abilities to add more build variety.

Poll: Should there be a penalty for being knocked out?
I like BrainMuncher's suggestion (minus the maiming stuff). Basically, if you are knocked out you get closer to being fatigued than you otherwise would have been (but not immediately fatigued necessarily). That will force the player to use more camping resources and would reward investment in athletics (as BrainMuncher noted). A nice minor penalty that plays nice with existing systems would work well. It is both gamist and simulationist as well. It should also be easy to implement a fatgue hit. I would keep the fatigue hit small and wouldnt add any maiming mechanics though.

Character Race
I tend to play small races. They just look cool to me. I just hope they make way more Orlan portraits (will be hard to find custom ones that fit). Sawyer mentioned how much he liked the portraits for Shadowrun (where you can choose different facial hair, skin tones, etc); I hope they do something like that for Orlans.

Apologies to Obsidian
I hope OE takes the strong emotions voiced on these boards in stride. If anything, I hope they take it as a sort of compliment that their work elicits such passioned responses from folks. Many other works come and go with little to no reaction from an audience. This game has generated a wealth of empassioned reactions without even being released. In any case, I hope moving forward that more of us can presume positive intentions both among ourselves and towards the developers.
