Hard mode is too easy (part 2)
Shevek replied to LadyCrimson's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I doubt we wll get SCS for this game since they are not using Unity 5 and, thus, a potential modder wont have access to a legit free version of Unity to mod things with. I also dont think a SCS like mod is the answer either. The easiest way to fix the difficulty curve is to... 1) Nerf bounty XP 2) Rebalance critical path content to level 10 rather than level 8. I would suggest that OE should consider SIGNIFICANTLY upping certain enemy resistances to certain attacks. Slimes shouldnt be able to be blinded easily. Flying enemies should be MUCH harder to make prone. Etc etc. I don't advocate immunities but higher resistances (which you can still debuff) seems fair. -

MotB was damn good. I am a HUGE fan. But PoE is better. -
Realistic dates for PoE 2
Shevek replied to Bryy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am with LadyCrimson. I am loving PoE (and would love PoE2) but I too would like to see OE try something different as well. Personally, I wanna see them try something that hasn't really been done too often. Maybe dial in some Buck Rodgers and do a Sci Fi themed isometric, TB, party based cRPG. Instead of a stronghold they can have an upgradable space cruiser/colony thing (Battlestar Galactica like or some such). Or maybe do something akin to Deadlands (post-apoc + old west). Or maybe something similar to Solomon Kane. Or Ravenloft. Basically, do a gutsy setting that is significantly different than typical high fantasy. Don't get me wrong. PoE is great and I think its on par with BG2. I just would love to see them do something less traditional. -
I seem to be getting the much of the same random loot with this new patch. So, I was getting a bunch of rings of protection and now I am getting blunting belts. Maybe just crazy luck?

Raedric's Keep

Can't interact with a dungeon door. Anyone know a work around? EDIT: Easy fix, use Bester's mod to clear the fog ("nofog") and you can open the door -
Idea for Grimoires
Shevek replied to Shevek's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Ya, thats the idea, better than not changing them at all. You wont be. That Grimoire would still get bonuses just not as high as a specialized grimoire. -
I have a minor suggestion for Obsidian to consider for the xpack. Currently, I like the idea of Grimoires and Grimoire switching but there is little incentive to do so. Here is my suggestion to make carrying around more than one Grimoire more of a thing: For every spell of a specific type you add to your Grimoire (Burn Dmg, Freeze Dmg, Corrode Dmg, Shock Dmg, Arcane Dmg, Physical Dmg, Buff, Debuff, Control - whatever other I am forgetting), you get a small passive buff to that spell type. The bonus should be very small but it should get noticeable as you add more spells of that type. So, if you load up a Grimoire with lots of fire spells, then it will boost your fire spells significantly. If you want to use a significantly boosted shock spell, you would need to switch grimoires to a more shock focused one. The bonus should be tiny, like . ̅3̅ or .5 accuracy with that spell type or or maybe duration with buffs/debuffs or something. It should only be noticeable once you start to stack alot of spells of a given type. As an added bonus, this is a neat way to include specialist wizards. Just a thought.

The combat system is terrible...

The new age of crpg gamers need "button awesome" and naked elves or they arent interested. -
The best balance to the Estoc is to modify 50% of enemies by drastically increasing their endurance and decreasing their dr to 0.

These armor penetration and related weapon balance issues are due to one thing: During beta, some of the internal OE beta testers complained that the armor system confused them. It had something called Damage Threshold (what we now call DR) and the original Damage Reduction (percentile, not integer based like now). So weapons like the Estoc got through some DT but not the (old)DR. DT bypass was good but not as godly as it is now since player still had to deal with percentile DR. Also, weapon damages were lowered to accommodate for this change - this further amplified weapon imbalances created by the armor system. The game still hasn't recovered weapon balance wise from the fateful decision to move away from its superior older armor system to move to the simple one it shipped with.

I dunno. I think we should have had our keys by now. Other folks are already pre-loading. -

There are many builds open to the paladin. With the assorted orders, they are easily one of the more customizable classes. Ya, all builds are support builds BUT there is enough there so the player can choose how best to support the party.

Paladin, no question. It gets a bonus to Lore. It does some decent support. You can easily build a party for 2, so it should work well with the Paladin NPC.
