  1. No. It's 10% HITS are upgraded to crits. Huge difference. Let's take two ends of the spectrum and compare the +5 accuracy of elves with the +10% hits upgraded: 1st scenario is low accuracy - you have 25 less accuracy than your enemy and try to hit it. Midget DPS: 0,4 * 0 (miss) + 0,35 * 0,5 (graze) + 0,23 * 1 (hit) + 0,02 * 1,5 (crit) = 0,435 Elf DPS: 0,35 * 0 + 0,35 * 0,5 + 0,3 * 1 = 0,475 2nd scenario is high accuracy - you have 25 more accuracy than your enemy and try to hit it. Midget DPS: 0,25 * 0,5 + 0,45 * 1 + 0,3 * 1,5 = 1,025 Elf DPS: 0,2 * 0,5 + 0,5 * 1 + 0,3 * 1,5 = 1,05 If you want to build something that will be at least 4m away from the enemy elves are simply superior DPS. No question, midget is for melee only, for ranged/caster elves are the way to go. And if you look at how punishing melee can be (especially on higher difficulties) and how you won't have any defenses if you pull aggro, I would say in the grand scheme of things elves are simply much better than orlans. Sure, the latter can look like teemo, but that won't make up for the lower damage. Not quite understanding the number equations here, care to clarify? Needs more labels and explanations where the numbers are coming from. At least for me, anyways. He did tell you were the numbers came from. He literally explains scenario then puts numbers. One easy way to put it is this. 50% of the amounts of hits you do will only ever be 5% crit chance at best (because 10% of 50 is 5). Five accuracy will make you miss 5% less, graze 5% less and crit 5% more. Clearly the winner. It also doesnt require anyone else targeting the same mob (so it would work for an opening blunderbuss shot from a rogue or w/e). The woodelf and hearth orlan would even out if you had 50 accuracy more than the enemy had deflection. If you are in this scenario I really really dont think it matters though. Also if you had an advantage of over 50 then orlan would drop off again.
  2. Tbh I am hoping that someone makes a mod or some kind of patches occur to make hard actually hard. PotD just seems crazy. I dont exactly want to fight super large groups of monsters. That said I will probably play PotD for my second playthrough if nothing changes difficulty wise. I feel like a large amount of the problem is the way they added killing XP and are so generous with quest XP. As mentioned before over-leveling is a large amount of the problem. The very early content isn't anywhere near as cakewalklike as it gets later on.
  3. Got to say none of these things are problems for me. To be honest I wouldn't really enjoy the shops shutting at night. I like the loot system the way it is. Having to worry about who is carrying what and is it heavy enough .... The loot system is kind of BS in DnD ruleset. There are a few things in these kind of games where you need to suspend disbelief. I prefer convenience over fiddly roleplaying everytime. I want to enjoy a good story and good combat. Not micromanage like a nutjob with items. I like the fact that I can carry around every single magic sword I find in the game. Its not like a bag of holding isnt ridiculous. Personally I would count time spent making the game less convenient in order to satisfy some pretty esoteric and random roleplaying desire to be wasted. Its not an open world game. Your characters don't have to sleep (well not everyday). Lets think about a realistic way of dealing with items. Each character can carry what that character can carry. So 1 sidearm maybe 2. One weapon in your hands. No shields bigger than a buckler. No one has armour heavier than chain (because all of these things are ridiculous in a real life context). So your character could have a bow and a sword as a sidearm. A spear with a sword as a sidearm. For that matter spears would totally trump swords in combat. Who would be happy if you made spears the go to weapon for everyone not using a bow ? Who would be happy if you couldnt carry loot but could only swap out the weapons or armour you already had for stuff you found ? My guess is nobody. This is not a simulation game. Its a fantasy game. I'm ok with that. If it was a simulation game then a lot of people would be unhappy. The IE games were not simulation games either.
  4. I can't wait for the bugs to be fixxed either. I am managing to play the game anyway though. Avoiding the stats going up constantly isn't that much of a problem for me. Even if the game is unplayable for a lot of people ... is waiting for an extra week really such a big deal. I'm still happy obsidian made the game. I'm still having fun playing it. Any complaints I have are not related to bugs at all. Hell I picked up endless legend recently. The game has been out for a while. I found a 'gamebreaking' bug in it that had already been fixed in a patch and then somehow re-introduced the patch before I played it (and its been patched back out again now). So even 6 months after release a game can have a bug in it. Not sure we should all be losing our minds over this.
  5. I feel like the fact we have a slightly buggy game after release is largely due to developers having to give a solid release date long before it is actually ready. I am not finding the game unplayable myself. You avoid saving and loading on the maps you pick heroes up on.. that was easy. Dont double click on items to equip them. Done. I have one character running around with negative DR (its still positive when I put armour on and it is a documented issue). I just deal with that. Ive watched some lets play on youtube that were 20 odd hours long without any bugs surfacing. I'm not trying to say that it isnt a problem that games get released not quite ready but ... it happens. Personally I am more sore about them putting combat XP into the game because I seem to be outleveling most of the content I run into.
  6. I don't know that I have been 'grinding'. I do all of the quests because it is fun. For some reason the enemies who spam charm seem to either aim for the tank which can be bad or for my wizard who does very small damage to my team. I have definitely noticed that most difficulty comes from enemy casters. The casters are pretty easy to kill though if you can get to them or have a reasonable amount of ranged dps.
  7. 125 deflection ! that is nuts. I am kicking with 104 on Eder and I resisted buying any exceptional armour for no reason I can really explain. The smaller party is an option but I don't want to leave anyone behind untill I have played through and gotten to know all of the companions. They are one of the highlights of the game for me. Itd be cool if I could leave me behind haha.
  8. I am wondering if there is any chance of the in game levels or stats of creatures being tuned to account for the over leveling or if I want a challenge maybe I just have to not do a lot of defiance bay. Up until defiance bay things felt fine. I have only just started doing the endless dungeon. I totally agree with you about the tank factor. I think for second playthrough I will be avoiding warrior tanks. I shudder to think what a min maxed tank with full deflection and constitution would be able to withstand.
  9. Yeah that lightning attack of theirs is pretty nuts if you are like me and have a bad habit of letting your guys clump. I did find once I stopped clumping they weren't really so bad.
  10. I'd say that the most important thing for a dps paladin is to learn to keep them alive without using full plate.
  11. Ah it has occured to me that my use of language is perhaps misleading. When I say I one shot it I mean I didn't load. Not that I killed it with a single bullet. That would be straight up depressing. Normally I am pretty lazy and tend to die in a fight and need to load before I bother using many abilities in a fight, especially per rest ones. For the Drake I did not hold back like I generally do though considering how under leveled you are when you get to the drake if you drop down the rope I was still pretty surprised how easily I won that fight. I actually had more trouble getting back out since I went down with no camping supplies like the fool I am and was running pretty low on spells and health after the fight. Those Xaurip priests can be a pain if you don't take em out fairly quickly.
  12. Never heard of SA forums. And there are plenty of knowledgable chaps who played the beta on this forum. Yeah the people who do know the game in there forums are the only reason I can make somewhat informed in game choices. I would really really like to just be able to straight up read some charts and proper explanation by dev type posts which explain stuff like attack speed. I guess on the flipside though it does feel like the combat in the game isnt quite finished with the balancing so maybe they are just holding off on official explanations until things are less subject to change.
  13. On the topic of the 'IE mod' I am curious, does it actually change anything turning off engagement ? I don't really feel a need to turn it off because I don't get hit by disengage attacks. I do kind of have the feeling that if I was really keen I could possibly game the system a little against the AI since I have noticed they sometimes seem to be a little too willing to walk around in melee range. I am also curious how Estoc Rogues would feel. Stiletto seems like it would work better since you are getting more free DR reduction but the idea of backstabbing someone with a double handed weapon makes me laugh.
  14. Hmm I haven't even used the summons, I guess I am missing out. I am also curious about the late game summons.
  15. How do you not get so high though ? Unless some bug gave me a heap of free xp or something. I did go around and read every book and talk to every person and do each and every quest available. I dont feel like that should make me over leveled (and I know that reading the lore books doesn't level you I am just trying to imply that I feel like I left nothing undone)
  16. I cannot be sure but it 'seems' like int doesn't actually effect chants, just the spells chanters get. The linger effect doesn't get any longer for me, that I can say for certain.
  17. I really liked Sagani because of her dedication to a task which was so much bigger than she was. In my real life I have a problem with open ended problems. Sagani has spent five years chasing someone she has no idea(or very little) how to find. This more or less puts me in awe of her. Her in game dialogue/banter pretty much kills me too. I havent really had Pellagina in my party for enough stuff to see her really come out enough. I only just got to dyrwood. Aloth I have really enjoyed right from the word go. I like Kana a lot too. His attitude and thirst for knowledge is admirable to me. Can't wait to meet this grieving mother. She sounds like crazy fun. Since my character is rational I am not so sure that I will be able to justify having her around though.
  18. No one seems to address the 102 damage thing. No enemy has dealt anything like that amount of damage to any of my characters ever. I am wondering if possibly you are doing something wrong, or the game is bugging.
  19. The negative accuracy penalty for shields is applied directly to your spell accuracy. Do not equip shields on your wizard unless they are of the small variety or you are ok with your spells missing. I have shields (small) in the alternative weapon slots for all of my casters in case they get stuck in melee somehow. It doesnt happen that often but its worth carrying around a small shield (of quality if possible) with a hatchet in my personal opinion. Just don't try and do most of your fighting that way. Also if you leave auto attack on it is dangerous to have your squishies using shields ..
  20. You are playing an old school RPG. You got into a fight you could not win. You load. The game autosaves for you. After you realise you cannot win ... you do walk away and come back later. If this is going to make you stop playing the game then ... bye I guess.
  21. I have come to learn that a lot of information about the pillars of eternity combat mechanics is hidden in the something **** forums. I do not have personal access to those forums but my flatmate does. I asked them to find for me the threads about the pillars combat only to find out that apparently everything is just one great big pile of crap in the SA thread. If someone could link me the page in the SA thread (or pages) that have the information we all need to make combat decisions I would appreciate it a lot. I will also make this information available to everyone else once I have it. The game mechanics should not be hidden inside of a pay wall forum thread which is a total mess. It disgusts me.
  22. I have this same issue. Not going to try and counteract it because I am finding the game a little easier than it should be anyhows. She also has other malus to her defensive stats for me.
  23. You destroyed the machine ? People could learn from it ! I did not destroy the machine I merely turned it off. I am wondering if you killed the Knights of the Crucible after or before turning off the machine? (the ones in the little vault type place). Cannot actually offer any help other than to advise try not destroying the machine/make sure you kill the knights before you turn it off.
  24. There is a lot of important information locked in the SA forums. That is what gets up my nose the most. Want to understand how combat in PoE works ? better either ask someone with SA access. I would like to know how combat in the game works via the game itself of course. Its one of my biggest criticisms about the game actually. Failing that the official forums should have all of the info. Not Something Awful.
