  1. Use the biggest hammer you can find Sorry, I am not at home right now (where my Vista machine is). I'll see if I remember this thread when I get home from work tonight, or better yet, somebody else chimes in with the answer
  2. Not really. Most (if not all) the "loot" in the game is randomised. Odds are, if you were to reload an earlier save of the same game, you would end up with different stuff in your inventory.
  3. Erm... Guess I'm just lucky then, cuz I've never had any problems. Actually runs better on my laptop then my hubby's desk top computer. Also ,(doi) with Vista. I think it might be an impression that people get because of the number of laptops with Intel gfx chips out there. People with ATI or Nvidia gfx in their laptops are better off as a rule of thumb. Even then, there are some quirky laptops out there when running the old Aurora Engine based games
  4. Makes you wonder what the young ones do at school these days...
  5. Somewhere on the Bethesda forums a poster noticed this, too. As for the music you have to remember that Fallout 3 is based on the 1950's versions of the future. To me, it therefore makes sense that the music used is from the 1950's in the game. This means there have been no hiphop, no breakdance, no house or dance music. Only the 1950's music - like a place frozen in time. Oh, I know it is a tribute to the setting of the originals. My problem with the 5 movie clips was, that it was the only thing "50'es" about them. The had that retro "90'es" feel to it (hence the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. reference)
  6. BG = Baldurs Gate. Combat System... I think some refer to it as "phase based", some as RTWP (Real Time With Pause). It is basically a continous turn based system, where a real time engine is used to emulate 6 second turns or some such (I was never Pen&Paper player). The emphasis in the game is/was on tactical combat and decision making rather than hand/eye coordination (also called "twitch based" combat )
  7. Game over man! Game over!... Continued here
  8. Start of old thread End of old thread Nothing much to add since last thread start. Played a few xbox games at work, never seen an xbox360 outside a retail store window (yet)
  9. Europa Universalis (III) is about as much realtime as the Infinity Engine games. I.e. not very much
  10. The mudcrabs looks like they put up a bit more of a fight in this game Otherwise, it looks like a western version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with bad combat. I almost expected that sheriff to grab a guitar, sit down and start singing in Russian. The pipboy and music felt completely out of place in this game
  11. "We ballern us the way to the weapon Dealer freely. " That is way more fun to read than the original German text "Do we shoot the rogue? Or do we take it prisoner? Do we let it run and extort it? All these options bring consequences for the further play process with itself" That sounds outright naughty.
  12. Phantom drawing of the real Walsingham: Few have met him and survived to tell the tale...
  13. Great game. Too easy to win the infantry battles though. And I never found out how to win a sea battle consistently, not to mention the chariot racing
  14. Hence my original question, what are the differences? That one has more friends doesn't really count. I'll refrain from cheap shots like "Georgia is a strategically important ally because of the oil pipeline running through it" Edit: And no, it isn't a trick question or bait, I am honestly curious about what those differences could be.
  15. Well, the "thousands of casualties and tens of thousands of refugees" are from a paper from the US Library of Congress, not my invention (I think I posted the link previously in this thread, or was that at WW? Thats possible). Blame them if they are fiddling with the numbers. Mind you, this was in 1991 when the Georgians wanted to wipe out any sense of "Ossetian" cultural integrity. Yeltsin was the one that mediated the ceasefire back then. The recent casualties may be much less, but the Ossetian desire to become "Georgians" hasn't really improved since those early years.
  16. I agree insofar that it is *possible* that there are differences. Not necessarily that I am able to see them
  17. I am curious, different how? You have a union (USSR/Yugoslavia) that disintegrates. You have an ethnic group that ends up on the "wrong" side of a border and don't want to be that particular nationality. The country (Serbia/Georgia) that holds "ownership" of the territory uses violence against said ethnic group trying to force them into submission. Outside forces intervenes, acknowledging their right to self determination. There may be differences, but there sure are a lot of similarities too (including the hypocrisy involved from whatever major geopolitical power had a stake on the losing horse).
  18. Yes, they haven't been repeating, after KOTOR they've been getting progressively worse. Sorry, couldn't resist. Worse how? Mind you I haven't played JE (seemed like more action than roleplaying for my taste) nor ME (too much DRM, had nothing to do with the qualities of the game). Is it just because they haven't done any more SW games?
  19. Just a friendly reminder that those very same young ones frequent these forums and possibly even this very thread
  20. Wild dwarves What are they, something like drop bears? Innocent travellers in mountain passes have reported wild dwarves descending upon them from seemingly out of nowhere
  21. Bite them! No opinion on DA yet. Haven't played anything Bioware since Kotor1.
  22. http://www.the-waaagh.com/a-to-z.html Third word under 'D' Edit: Oops, didn't read the last post.
  23. That was thoughts like those that made me look for alternatives like passive cooling first, but then who dares wins (or loses badly). The Antec casing I got has two rubber grommeted (sp?) holes in the back for the very purpose. One hose goes out, one in. They are hooked up with an external radiator, which has a pump inside and no fans (for maximum silence, which is what I aimed for). Link to product page from my "build" thread (it has images of what it looks like): I can't remember if the site wants you to install Korean fonts (even when the text is in English) so I wonder if direct linking works: The hoses are attached to the radiator with some kind of locking mechanims, you just puch a small button and pull it out. The water doesn't run anywhere. The blue colour is the liquid that you mix up with the demineralised water for sterilisation and anti-corrosion purposes.
  24. There has been a few good spy games in the past. Spy vs. Spy, Impossible Mission (not to be confused with Mission Impossible), The Fourth Protocol and a number of others. Most of them are pretty old though.
