  1. I think Hiro hit the nail on the head. As far as online communities goes, this is a small one and many of the members (the regulars anyway) have been around for a substantial amount of time. People can predict the course of a discussion with an uncanny accuracy and when the end result is already known, why even bother? Occasionally we get a new troll or someone with an outlandish position on a subject and the old ones stirs form their slumber and observes something to the effect of, "someone's been sitting in my chair"???
  2. Obama on retirement from the elected office... Wasn't really sure if it belongs here or in the general funny stuff thread. He isn't up for election after all, on the contrary.
  3. The same betting markets that offered 5000:1 for Leicester winning the Premiere League
  4. That was the first thing that sprang to mind when reading this thread
  5. Vote for Gorth! (insert long list of election promises that are obviously not intended to be honoured post-election)
  6. “There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.” ― John Adams In any case, blame Hamilton and Jefferson for the US having two parties
  7. I've always thought relying on "armour" (passive defenses) was inferiour to active defenses. A lesson that battleships learnt the hard way.
  8. Didn't vote... since I'm not eligible for the real vote anyway (something I haven't been for close to 15 years, not being a 'citizen' where i live). From a foreign cynics perspective, it looks like a choice between 4 options, the moronic Dan Quayle wannabe, the power hungry megalomaniac that will cling to power at all costs, the militaristic expansionist with no clue what to do with power or the affluent socialist with no clue about economics. I'll leave it to people to assign those labels on the candidates. Regardless of who wins, I feel sorry for the Americans
  9. I haven't played EU4 as much as I wanted to, something always seems to get in the way. Memorable countries that I played in EU3 were Denmark (being from there Originally), Muscowy (recreating most of the later Czar's empire) and besides being a big challenge, also very rewarding, having played the Timurids and transitioning to more stable goverment forms and founding the Mughal empire was very different from always playing powerful European countries. Having luck on my side didn't hurt either, as you are initially very vulnerable every time your leader dies (internal power struggles and rebellions), so neighbours already locked in war with each other at the right time definitely helped.

A Tale with no happy ending? Not the kind of stories I need to hear being the driver of a newly leased car...
  11. The game looks interesting and I was about to put it in my cart at one time, until I read the review saying "Reinvents the 4X genre, mirroring what XCOM did for tactical turn-based games" and then it promptly flew out of my cart again. Would love to see some impressions of the game
  12. Redundant threads merged...
  13. Since I was in the nostalgic mood anyway... 'PRESS PLAY ON TAPE' performs "Ghost'n Goblins" at Eurcon 2007 Just a short Commodore 64 ad at the beginning http://youtu.be/JU9pFWN5q3A
  14. Ah, Ultima. That brings back memories. Primitive by todays standards, but back in the mid 80's I could listen to the music for hours without turning down the volume.... http://youtu.be/2aHO6V2s_6s Edit: Sadly I lost my original box over the decades. Had the one with a cloth map and a little plastic Ankh in it
  15. I always thought of Hunger Games as a poor mans watered down version of the old japanese movie "Battle Royale". I guess making it tame and substituting the actors with "westerners" was what made it a commercial success?
  16. Thread getting a bit long... hopefully more funny things this way
  17. Start of old thread End of old thread Normally I couldn't care less about golf, but this one did stand out in a crowd of hole-in-one's... BBC Sport It's not just the one in a million hole in one, it's so bizarre you would think it was special effects teams playing against each other. Youtube version (in case BBC Sport videos is not available in your country) http://youtu.be/Z2sRu1NXo1s
  18. Just out of curiosity, who decides what is acceptable within a community forums. Do the rules come down from the main company or is it left to the community manager, I guess i'm trying to fish as to whom made the decision to ban "girl" images from the forum. I wouldn't want to put you in a compromising position and I will fully understand if you dodge that question but it still makes me curious as to who decides what culture a forum will have. The "basic" rules comes from above if you want. I.e. no discrimination, no explicit nudity etc. The rest is left to the moderators. As for the pretty woman thread, you can thank those people who simply had this compelling urge to see how far they could go instead of trying to stay on topic and post pictures of pretty woman. It was given a lot of chances and people failed consistently to self moderate. Nothing more complicated than that really.
  19. Cut a few posts. Lets see if people get the hint before having to roll up the sleeves and get more "hands on"
  20. Moved to Pillars of Eternity Tech section, as the devs are more likely to spot your post here...
  21. Le Jeux est mort, vive le Jeux! Or some such in Pseudofrench... More self confessed gaming here
  22. Start of old thread End of old thread When not playing swtor, I've had a few more goes at Mordheim (fun games, just don't try to do too long sessions), Dishonored (which I'm surprising myself by actually liking) and the odd game of Master of Orion 2 (one of my all time favourites, long live dosbox!)
  23. I finally got around to play through the latest chapter yesterday evening on one of my many alts. Must say I was pleasantly surprised. Not sure it holds up after repeated playthroughs, but it was quite entertaining the first time. The Alliance Alert recruitment mission was fun too, who would have thought all that time playing Zork would pay off? Only downside was, I couldn't care less about the new Dashade. Off to the freezer with him again, waiting for the real Khem to come back. I'm sure he misses his "Little Sith".

Smart people don't argue on the internet edit to add smiley, not being entirely serious.
