I like the core idea of a soulbound weapon. If I could change anything about them, it would be to make them really rare. There probably shouldn't be more than 3 or 4 of them in the entire game. Seriously. Pillars 1 had so many soulbound items, some of my characters had 2 of them equipped. I'd also like to see them changed into quests essentially. Like the Grey Sleeper (the fact that I still know the name of this weapon says everything). It's so much more interesting than just doing a certain amount of damage with them or something. So again, in my view the only thing that crushes the idea of soulbound weapons, is if they don't feel like anything special. Such an item shouldn't be a dime a dozen. Really curious how they are implementing those items in Pillars 2!

Why is this game so hard?
huang replied to Devious13's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think this game is hard, because the BG games which were the inspiration, weren't easy either. You could reduce your difficulty setting. The fights get definitely easier, once you figure out every enemies weaknesses. The bestiary can help here. I think there is just a lot to learn at first. There are so many spells for one and other than in DnD games, players aren't familiar with all the spells in this game right away. I had problems at first too, but as time went by it got easier and easier. Don't give up! I play these games for story and characters mainly, so I don't need to win every battle in the highest difficulty setting or anything. -
But party AI doesn't stop you from using micromanagement. You can still order them around in whatever way you want, even if you don't outright turn it off. I liked the combat so far and had no real problems with it, but being able to equip my guys with more complex routines they can also execute automatically might really come in handy.

This is wrong because of several reasons. I'm not happy that they take so much time between games either, but the campaign of each game is as long as the campaign in the original game or any RTS game. What you are saying would only be valid, if the campaign in SC2 would be 1/3 the length. It is not. Another severe mistake here is, that even in the first campaign, you do play as other races in a few missions. You are way off track here.

All issues with 1.05: I still have that problem too. Directly after the log in the stronghold says wages paid and how much: http://i.imgur.com/8W0hl7D.jpg It still says all are unpaid: http://i.imgur.com/uDovtMN.jpg Also check out the Dunryd Psion in the second screenshot, who has apparently 0 wages and +0 security and prestige...

Yes, I'm wondering about this too. I even get the message that the hirelings WERE paid, but it still keeps saying they are unpaid.

Patch Notes: 1.04
huang commented on Darren Monahan's blog entry in Pillars of Eternity Support Blog
After I was reloading my savegame, I noticed that the inventories of all characters, I had switched out at Caed Nua, were empty. So were the quick slot items... Only my main character and Eder (who I never switched out) still had all their items. Has anyone else encountered this? -
Baldur's Gate in PoE's engine
huang replied to Gwynbleidd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Nope, I'd much rather play Pillars of Eternity II in the Pillars of Eternity engine. :D Just finished both Enhanced Editions a few months ago, so I had my fill. -
Hello, I apologize if this is already known, I discovered a minor bug (with 1.03): I went upstairs in The Charred Barrel inn and the armoire in the right room contained a fine leather armor and something else. I clicked take all, but the window stayed open, I had to click take all several times until it closed, up until then there was always the second item shown. When I checked the stash, I had suddenly 4 fine leather armors in it (despite the armoire only showing one), exactly as many, as I had to click on take all until the windows finally closed. I thought "okay, more money for me", but I equipped several of those fine leather armors on party members who had still worse equipment. After reloading my savegame, I noticed those party members were suddenly naked. The duplicate fine leather armors from this armoire didn't stay there permanently. Just thought I share this, because this was quite unusual, nothing like this had ever happened to me elsewhere in the game. Cheers!

PoE - Sales figures STEAM
huang replied to BillyCorgan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not really. As soon as you realize that these fringe elements don't matter, it becomes clear that there's no problem. These people always show up and talk of boycotting and whatnot, but the reality of it is, that only a minority of them would have bought it anyway, while a majority of them only shows up to try and spread their message. They only come to attack other people and dump their crap, that's it. There wasn't one occasion where their garbage has made a difference. It's negligible. I've backed many KS projects and there are always some of them in the mix, but it's like below 5%, the rest of the people are still enthusiastic and happy about the project. It's again the same with PoE. The game is a huge hit and people who have actually played it, like it a lot, as they should, because it's a brilliant masterpiece. It's just that the screaming idiots are also the loudest. The majority is silent. -
PoE - Sales figures STEAM

Uhm no, it can't... There is no other game like PoE right now. Not even close. -
Reduce the Loading Times...
huang replied to SlickMajestic's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The "problem" isn't necessarily that single loading screens are so long, it's that there are sometimes so many of them right next to each other. Resting in Caed Nua is a good example. Buying someting in a building and resting equals 5-6 loading screens and you basically only go in and out, so even 5 sec per loading screen quickly becomes 20 seconds of loading. It feels like much. And yes, I thought the last patch made the loading times shorter. -
Realistic dates for PoE 2
huang replied to Bryy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No, the way I understood it, they are just going to add content. Meaning all kinds of quests and later some more quests. :D -

The only thing that's more superfluous than numbered ratings for games is talking about those numbered ratings. :D -

@Shevek That sounds great, I would love to play a sci-fi game that's as deep as PoE. But I'm afraid that it's too risky. The success of Pillars is certainly partially because of its traditional setting. -
Realistic dates for PoE 2
huang replied to Bryy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Actually Feargus already said the first expansion will be split into two parts, so they can drop the first one pretty soon. Probably a matter of 2-3 months max, not 6-9. http://www.pcgamer.com/pillars-of-eternity-tabletop-rpg-and-card-game-in-the-works/ -
Update 1.04 on Steam?
huang replied to sp3cw4r's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I have to believe you're correct, seeing how Patch 1.03 on GOG was only 80 MBs. I was just about to say. GOG 1.03 was 81 MB in total. It's kind of funny, given that Steam announced years ago that they would now be using diff patching. -
Patch 1.03 is Live on Steam
huang replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
What does that mean, Steam doesn't test patches before releasing them? Steam has self-publishing. That means Obisidan uploads their stuff and Steam distributes it automatically. No further human interaction. Other services like GOG have humans handle all this, which is why...
