  1. I won't buy the expansion before playing the game. At this point I highly doubt I will dislike the game, everything I've seen was rather great, but I've backed so many projects at this point, that I want to see some finished projects before backing even more. For some crazy reason I could still dislike the gameplay or the controls and it would just frustrate me if I'd also bought the expansion that would be the exact same.
  2. Of course there are several good examples for games with 25 GB and more. BioShock Infinite with all DLC has about 40 GB. The vast majority of games however (and not just older ones) are still significantly below that. But that's all besides the point anyway. Most people still need quite some time to download 25 GB. Of course PoE will be worth it, but it'll be longer than just a short while. That is all.
  3. I'm solely guessing here (sorry), but I'd say no. GOG "never" does pre-loads, so I'm guessing they will want to keep it "fair". Giving people the chance to start playing at roughly the same time. And OH MY GOD the game is actually listed as 25 GB in size. This is tough.
  4. Yes, consistency is what I meant. As long as this works, everything is fine.
  5. I think realism is the wrong word. What many people probably mean when they use it in this context, is that next to everything in a game should make sense according to the logic of the game and its world. When I start a game and learn how the magic in this game works, I accept this - if those rules are suddenly broken for no good reason, then my immersion breaks.
  6. What I've seen so far of PoE looked really good and I just played and finished both Baldur's Gate Enhanced Editions. Can't imagine why anyone would think those would look better.
  7. Well, the way I understand it, it's supposed to be an expansion like Throne of Bhaal was one for Baldur's Gate II. As far as size and scope are concerned. They won't make a red boots DLC and call it an expansion.
  8. I never really know beforehand. I usually make up my mind while trying out all the options in the character generator. If at all, I only decide earlier which character to play in games I'm already familiar with. So, since I haven't played the backer beta, I'll just click through all the options to find out what I'll end up liking the most. Really looking forward to this.
  9. I've been waiting since the start of the KS to play it, so no, I won't wait and play it right away once OE declares it released.
  10. No wonder GOG is pushing galaxy. Automatic patching is really 99% of what people care about. I wonder how long it will take for people to notice once it's out - and what will be the reason then for still preferring Steam over GOG. :D
  11. Thank you this is great news! It's never a good feeling having to select portraits while also keeping in mind which ones aren't also used for certain characters.
  12. Is it already known if characters will have their own dedicated character portraits, or will it be the way it was back in Baldur's Gate, where choosing a portrait for the player character that was assigned to an NPC would then cause this NPC to have another portrait? This was one of the few things I really didn't like about BG.
  13. LOL, when I only quickly skimmed the lines I read psychiatrist and thought of a dude giving your companions therapy between quests. :D
  14. If that's the case everything would work fine if you just re-install Windows. You didn't even tell which version you are using. With Windows 8.x (don't remember if this already existed in 7, 'twas too long ago) it's easy to check if there are no significant problems within your installation. Just run a dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and after this says everything is fine, maybe do a sfc /scannow as well. If any of this shows any errors it's time to fix those or reinstall.
  15. It's probably a little bit crazy, but the companions are among the content I'm looking forward to the most. I'm really glad Wasteland 2 is coming out this week, so I can forget about PoE for a while!
  16. Honestly I'll just be glad if the first game sells at all. :D To me it's still kind of unclear if there is gonna be a big enough market, since the people who wanted it the most have already backed it. I so hope that's not going to be the case, but I wouldn't be shocked to learn that it's not a huge massive hit sales wise. Sadly Obsidian won't profit all that much from the fact that a minority will certainly love this game for years to come.
  17. To me it's a mixture out of lots of these things. The most important part for me is/I'm mainly interested in great stories/adventures, so I'll be into any setting that offers just that. It surprises me to realize this, but at least part of why I like fantasy, is serously that I played so many good games that were fantasy, this made me associate positive things with the genre. I'm glad there's finally a game coming that actually counts as high fantasy and is not just about some dudes with swords and maybe some of them can do something "magicky" too... It requires more than just that. It's like a democracy needs more than just allowing citizens to vote. There's also stuff like freedom of speech neccessary etc...
  18. I'm so happy that game devs now are brave enough again to release games with TEXT without voice acting. As powerful and great VA can be, it's just not ideal for everything. It started with the vanishing of names. Obviously if it's text only they can only add a variable that will display the player customized character name. It's also with games that want to have a deeper, more complex story, longer texts are necessary and if they would be all voice acted, it would take ages for it to be read properly pronounced. No, this really only works without voices. Also, just imagine how big these games would have to be with all these massive audio files. And how expensive this would have to be. This last part alone makes it a no go for these smaller KS projects. The classic IE games in particular showed how unncessary completely voiced texts are for this type of game. Never, while playing BG2, did I miss additional voices. Being into a certain amount of text is a requirement for this type of RPG.
