  1. What does that mean, Steam doesn't test patches before releasing them? Steam has self-publishing. That means Obisidan uploads their stuff and Steam distributes it automatically. No further human interaction. Other services like GOG have humans handle all this, which is why...
  2. Ah. Well you have to continue playing the main quest. If you reached a certain point in the story, there won't be a river.
  3. You need to go to Stormwall Gorge, only from there can you unlock the next area that will lead to Twin Elms.
  4. That's exactly what I thought. I'm a PC player for almost 25 years now and these pages mean nothing to me.
  5. Uhm... It's kind of cynical to praise this as a positive feature when sharing is only a problem because of DRM, don't you think? I mean it sounds like this is something gog.com would have to catch up to, when it doesn't need this in the first place because of no DRM. I definitely understand now why gog is running towards galaxy. If it works like Steam (=auto-patching), people will have to come up with new excuses why they are only using Steam.
  6. Ummm... Steam is DRM... I'll get mine on GoG and pick up a Steam version down the line when it's on sale. He was correct. Steam allows the use of their DRM component, but doesn't enforce it. It's possible to have DRM free games on Steam, where Steam only acts as a mere downloader and nothing else. Also: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/list_of_drmfree_games_on_steam/page1
  7. Steam and GOG have other payment methods than credit cards, right? Paypal for instance. If none of your local stores that carry games have the retail, you can always also order it. Every shop like amazon.de http://www.amazon.de/Paradox-Pillars-of-Eternity/dp/B00O9QFYQG/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1427300081&sr=1-1&keywords=pillars+of+eternity carries it too.
  8. They don't. They certainly do dominate the market, but the fact that we can still do things like choose Steam OR gog.com proves this statement wrong. There is no choice in a monopoly. Not really.
  9. I'll never understand how customers can actually demand a monopoly... It's like punching yourself in the face. Yeah that is true even though steam does not really abuse its power so far. But yeah the convenience is the key to just wishing one portal. As long as i dont have to deal with Uplay im OK with most methods of getting a game, hell i would even insert a blu-ray disc into my PC if needed. And guess why that is, it's because they do not have the monopoly yet.

  11. Well honestly, what the backers get first and foremost, is that the game was made at all - which should have been the dominating motivation behind backing in the first place. So since the game is now reality, we all have won already.
  12. I think it's just too much trouble to differ between backers and all the other customers. Is it somewhat disappointing that whomever gets a FREE copy before the people who have paid for it get it? Sure, I get that, but it must be hell for them right now before release and ultimately I'd rather have them focus on the game. Also, this way we won't get a pre-release version, but the one with the day 1 patch, that's a nice consolation, is it not?
  13. Well I don't know for sure if this will be the case here, but it's generally possible to deliver DRM free games with Steam. http://www.gog.com/forum/general/list_of_drmfree_games_on_steam/page1 The DRM copy protection in Steam is optional and publishers don't have to enable it if they don't want to.
  14. chch sorry for the typo... of course i meant backer "Baker" is still relevant and, I think, an improvement! As long as you aren't a Michael Bay-ker everything is okay...
  15. I'm mostly grateful for Obsidian, seriously. Without them there wouldn't have been the option of just giving some money to this cause in the first place. I also never thought to see such a game again. It's also very rare that there is such a developer who happens to have the same taste in games I do. That's also why I like KS and have backed about 10 games there (I haven't been disappointed yet - loved e.g. Wasteland 2). Although someone else does all the work, you still feel connected to the whole process. Despite everything it's a very different experience than just buying a game after release. I never look forward to other (good) games in the same way I do when I backed something. This is what makes it all worth it. I can't believe that years of waiting are almost over.
  16. My theory is they are only going to unlock all this stuff simultaneously on Thursday.
  17. I doubt they send all this stuff out this fast anyway. How many backers were there? Over 77.000? If they were trying to contact all of them right away, they'd probably be blocked as spammers by various services. KS (I assume it'll be a KS mail) surely has some limits of how many mails it sends per hour to avoid unforeseen consequences.
  18. What time is that GMT? http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html
  19. I'm not gonna lie, actually I hope I will like it. I would survive it if no one else did.
  20. Disagree. :D I love Wasteland 2 a lot and finished it several times, but even I won't defend the character models. From what I've seen of Pillars so far, they definitely look better. :D
  21. If it's similar to BGII in scope (and I have no idea if it is) there'll be probably around 12 inns. Maybe more. BGII had about 1 in in every area of the city, some even had 2. That makes easily 6 for one city. Now if there are 2 such mega cities... and I expect every small settlement to have an inn as well... So yes, at least 12 - if it is orienting itself relatively close to the scope of BGII which I now nothing about. I personally don't care that much about it, I'm good if the inns in the game are distributed relatively evenly throughout the game world, so players don't have to walk for ages until they reach one. But I would be very surprised if OE would do something like cluttering all inns into the same area. :D
  22. Reading this I'm really surprised it wasn't always handled like this anyway. Also, don't you all think it's a little early to think about the _expansion_?!? I want to play and finish PoE first.
